Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,100 miles

Pump failed in the middle of a long drive. Sounded like impeller broke apart, lots of clanking and clunking. Engine did not overheat, but water pump leaked significant amount of coolant from shaft, to the point the overflow tank was dry.

There was a noticeable accessory squeal for a few seconds at startup, and every now and then when running. Had a feeling an accessory was failing, did not figure it was water pump at only 50k miles.
