problem #1

Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

FOR SOME TIME NOW, I HAVE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH FINDING AT ODD TIMES, THE REAR LIFTGATE UP, THE PANIC ALARM GOING OFF, THE FRONT WINDOWS BEING FOUND DOWN AND THE REMOTE START ENGAGING ON IT’S OWN. I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM TO BE WITHIN THE REMOTE. ON THE RUBBER PAD, THERE ARE SMALL METAL DISCS THAT ACT AS CONTACTS. THESE HAVE BEEN COMING LOOSE AND FLOATING AROUND INSIDE THE REMOTE MAKING CONTACT WITH THE CIRCUIT BOARD. THIS IS CAUSING THE VERY ANNOYING ISSUES. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE HAS TAKEN ANYTHING FROM THE VEHICLE AND I HAVE NOT HAD THE LIFTGATE OR WINDOWS GO DOWN IN BAD WEATHER.

I HAVE TRIED RE-GLUING THE DISCS, BUT NOT HAVING MUCH LUCK WITH FINDING A GLUE THAT WILL WORK. CHECKED THE DEALER TODAY TO SEE IF I COULD ORDER JUST THE RUBBER PIECE WITH THE CONTACTS - NOPE, GOTTA BUY THE WHOLE REMOTE FOR MORE THAN $100.

SO, IF YOU FIND YOUR JEEP DOING ODD THINGS LIKE IT IS SPOOKED, LOOK AT THE REMOTE AND SEE IF THOSE SMALL DISCS HAVE COME UNGLUED. VERY VERY ANNOYING.
