Grand Cherokee Overland Hemi 5.8L

I had owned my car for less than 2 years and this incredibly annoying bubbling started showing. Both the dealership and the extended warranty both declared this a "cosmetic issue" and said they would never cover it. Fast forward to today and I've yet to replace it. I want to. It's annoying every day I see it, but ... the bubbles haven't popped yet. They sure feel like they're going to, but they've felt that way for nearly 2 years and they are nothing more than "cosmetic." Yes - I've lived with it, but ... I would prefer not to and heavily see this as an issue caused by nothing more than a bad dipping job or something. This comes from a declared amateur in this area.

Aside from that: this is my 2nd Jeep Grand Cherokee and I love it. I don't like the grille or the peeling dash - another issue - but I am a loyal Jeep owner and do love the car short of that. Mechanically sound, sexy, and just plained fun to drive.

chrome bubbling on front grille chrome bubbling on front grille chrome bubbling on front grille

I took this in to Jeep who had a look at it. The franchise in Century City had a look at the grille, but could find no explanation as to why the grille was bubbling. There were no stone chips on the grille that could maybe have allowed moisture to seep in causing it to bubble. So they sent of a request to have it done under warranty, I was told that the warranty had expired some nine months ago, so tough luck.

I would have to pay to fix. Very annoying especially in light of the fact that they cannot explain the bubbling?

My car isn't even five years old and the chrome on my front grille is bubbling, and obviously about to peel. So tacky. I can't find the photos but when I get it out of service for the air suspension problem, I can take a new one. This is not covered by any warranty and will cost $635 plus tax to fix. I haven't used any solvents to clean the chrome and haven't had any accidents.
