Grand Cherokee Overland V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,000 miles

The door would just slam against the latch and bounce back. On one occasion, my passenger had to hold the car door shut while we drove home. On a car with less than 40,000 miles, this should not happen.

Grand Cherokee Laredo V8hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,600 miles

This problem has occurred several times. It has always occurred when my spouse is riding with me and try to exit the vehicle after stopping. Once it would not let her open the door and after opening and letting her exit then we could not close it until we cycled the lock several times. I took it to the dealer and left it for a day and a half. They could not recreate the problem so they said they can't fix what they can't find. I now have video of it happening on my Iphone and we be returning to the dealer tomorrow morning. with it. I will have the service manager ride with me until it happens again. I'll let you know what happens.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 23,000 miles

The passenger door will not latch in the following circumstances: 1. Passenger gets in the passenger seat, and takes a ride. 2. Passenger exits the passenger seat. 3. Passenger tries to shut the door and it won't shut (latch).

To fix it I have to: 1. Lock and unlock the vehicle multiple times. 2. Go around to the passenger door with key fob and put my hand on and off the handle. 3. Repeat 1 and 2. 4. Stars must be in alignment. 5. Then it will shut. 6. Get back home and repeat.

My wife now just sits in the back seat! Went to the dealer, and they didn't believe my wife. Granted she didn't go through the first three steps, but they could have not treated her like a liar. Melloy Dodge in Albuquerque, NM.

Now I have to take time off work so we can both go down there and show them what the problem is.

Update from Sep 4, 2011: Took wife and kid and dealer to get it fixed, this time we were able to demonstrate the door not latching. Dealer told us that it would be Oct. 4 until the part came in (part number 4589924AB)! They said, "You can drive it and we'll call you when the part comes in..." Yeah right! After a call to Chrysler, we got set up with a loaner until the part comes in.
