Bad enough the car would not start, the two dealers I called could not look at the Jeep for two weeks. Took it to my local garage, they ordered the TIPM, just came in today and at last we have our Jeep back after 15 days. The real kicker is we just made our last payment on this Jeep, really make you think, will I buy another Jeep, don't think so.

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.. I love the truck but there is a major problem. Last year during the winter in NYC where I live I went to start the truck and it would not start on the first try...after trying it a few more times it started. Thought it was weird because I keep the truck in great shape.

Then recently the rear latch to the door triggers on its own to open itself...but the door doesn't open. So I have to physically open the door and close it to get the light off the dash board. Then sometimes it will happen again a few seconds later. On top of this the rear glass switch doesn't open but then will open on its own as well. I just learned about this TIPM module issue and it's disturbing. The truck is great and Jeep should do the right thing and recall all of these modules so the owners can keep enjoying the truck with no safety issues.

This problem should be not be occurring in a new car.

The car only has 41195 miles .

It was not covered under the warranty and it was ridiculously expensive to fix.

I think Jeep should pay for the replacement of the topmost.

Sent the following to Jeep after I received a Service Survey email after I declined the TIPM replacement. This was also before I saw the NY Times article from 08/22/14 about this issue which in turn brought me to this website to register my complaint.

Just brought my wife's 2011 Grand Cherokee in and was diagnosed with a bad TIPM. (Totally Integrated Power Module). To fix, it was going to cost $1300. I couldn't afford to do the repair at that time so I declined service. When I came home I went online to see what this module was and after Googling 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee TIPM, I was inundated with stories like my own of mass failures of these modules on a variety of Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge vehicles. So you can imagine my disappointment after reading so many stories of the many problems this obviously flawed modules have caused and yet as a company you will not acknowledge that there is an issue and do a recall.

I was told by the service department where we bought the vehicle that there is no way to resolve this issue except paying $1300 to fix. All I want is to find some common ground and come to an agreement where both parties are happy. My wife and I up until this point have had no issues with the vehicle at all. In fact, we have recommended it to many people, two of which have purchased 2012 & 2013 model Grand Cherokees and one that bought a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. Since this incident though I have talked with all three parties and warned them of the modules and the lack of a resolution from your company on an obviously faulty car part.

My wife, although she LOVES her Cherokee, she is willing to get rid of it and move on after this experience with your company. Unfortunately, I agree.

Like I said before, I would love to find a reasonable resolution to this problem and would love to talk to someone in your company that is willing to listen to my complaints and help resolve the the problem in a way that would work out for the both of us and in a way where I can keep talking so highly of the Jeep brand.

I had a problem starting the vehicle over a span of about a month which gradually got worse. Took the car in on 8/27. I had to rent a car. Now I'm being told that it could be the TIPM and/or the fuel pump which has been ordered but they have no idea when it will arrive. Now I'm on line reading about all of the horror stories about the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokees with a similar issue. Some of these are stories of continuing problems even after the repair are performed.

About a month ago, my Jeep had problems starting. When pushing the start button, it would just turn over and over but fail to fire up. Shut it off, wait, restart the process is the only way to finally get it to start. The problem now has progressed to almost every time and 5-6 x to finally start. I know this site wants me to log each incident separately, but I'd be doing that 5x a day...ugh! Not looking forward to a $1200+ repair for a known issue! May be my last Jeep if they don't fix it!

Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,000 miles

Let me start by saying that I have never owned anything but Chrysler products and have NEVER had a problem. This is my THIRD Jeep.

Several months ago, my Jeep didn't start when coming home from a neighbor's house. Once I got the engine to remain running, I was able to "limp" home, which really was just a coasting. There was NO power to the engine when pressing the gas pedal. I thought that was a single episode. I was wrong.

About two months ago, after loading the car with groceries, the car wouldn't start. I sat in the parking lot (it was 93 degrees), patiently pressing the start button 5-6 times before the engine would crank. The problem continued from that day on, progressing to the point of taking 7-10 minutes to crank each time. I would have to press the start button to the "RUN" mode for nearly 10 minutes to get the car to start.

Took the vehicle to a repair shop, where they couldn't replicate the problem. Two weeks later, took it back. They couldn't replicate the problem then, either....until it sat overnight. They were finally able to replicate the problem to the point that it wouldn't crank AT ALL. Their investigation revealed the TIPM was faulty. Two weeks later, the module was replaced to the tune of $1,200.00

  • Automatic transmission

I bought my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, brand new... literally 0 miles on it. Beginning at just shy of 36,000 miles it began to intermittently have cranking and starting issues. Every time I would take it to the service center at the dealership, they could never get the problem to "replicate." After Several diagnostic tests costing $104.86 Each, they found nothing. When the vehicle reached 38,902 miles, and after the problem became more recurrent the dealership had me replace my Key FOB battery and update the software in my PCM & WCM. ($170.00) The problem didn't subside, and I was left to deal with the problem which occurred at most inopportune times, but only intermittently... Until yesterday.

After approximately a dozen+ attempts to get the Jeep to crank and start, I took to Youtube (http://youtu.be/27XKm0fAiWI) where I found that I was not alone. Not only am I not alone, I now realize what a systemic problem this is and that Jeep/ Chrysler/ Dodge must certainly be aware of it. I took my Jeep into my local Tampa, FL. dealer today fully expecting to get the run-around, and for the first time they didn't disappoint... just as suspected they passed the buck. They charged me another $104.86 for a "diagnostic test" (which I already had informed them of what they'd find)! They then quickly handed me a repair quote of $1,300+ tax. I called Chrysler's Customer Assistance center (1-800-992-1997) and after being hung up on once, I spoke with a representative who basically after a 30 minute conversation of explaining my situation stated that if I would have caught the undiagnosed issue at 36,000 miles and while it was under warranty, it would have been covered. So essentially all that could be done was for me to leave my Jeep with them for who knows how long and pay the assessed fee. She then added that I could file a complaint with the N.H.T.S.A (1-888-327-4236) to which I did.

The dealership whom by at this time no longer had it's courtesy shuttle running, did not offer a complimentary car to take, but rather the name of a rental car company that charged a rate of $35/day. I Will be spreading the word via every avenue that I can think of... If I can only but encourage others to do the same, all of this will not have been in vain. I am absolutely 110% turned off by this car company as a whole! I'll be shopping very shortly... assuming I can find a way to get there...

I bought my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee in October, 2013. I have put less than 7,000 miles on the Jeep since I bought it. About 2 weeks ago I left work to find my Jeep wouldn't start. My husband had to come and jump it - we thought it was a battery problem. Over the next two weeks the problem got worse...taking anywhere from 8 to 12 times to start.

I took my Jeep to the dealer today and was told the problem is a faulty TIPM that would cost around $1200 to fix. This problem started at 36,200 miles...200 miles out of warranty. I will be saving my receipts and am hoping that Jeep will recall and reimburse me. Might I add that this is my 4th Jeep Grand Cherokee and I have never had any previous problems. 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokees are junk!

Cold start problem. Every morning I have to prime the fuel pump to get it started. I went online and found out this is the beginning of a nightmare. I almost had the fuel pump replaced but my mechanic advised me about the TIPM issue and to prove it was not the pump I tried the remote key start and the Grand Cherokee started up immediately. Chrysler stealer wants me to pay for diagnostics and then charge for any problem found.

This has been going on for a month and I am now sending my TIPM to Oklahoma for repair while I have to rent a car. I will keep my expense receipts for reimbursement as soon as Chrysler agrees that this is a recall problem.

Grand Cherokee Limited V8

  • Manual transmission
  • 32,000 miles

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with approximately 32K miles. I began seeing the issue several weeks ago where the engine would crank but wouldn't start (using push button starter). Eventually it would start. Over the last several weeks the problem has intermittently reappeared but seems to be getting worse as it's taking longer to start. I've noticed that if I use the key instead of the push button it'll start right away. Based on research I've found there are a large number of 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners experiencing the same issue and requiring the replacement of the TIPM module which is estimated to cost $1,200+.

At this point it seems I have no recourse but to pay the excessive cost for the modules replacement. It's ironic that I'll be paying the costs associated with the repair on a new module which is already known to be defective.

This is eerily reminiscent of catching my daughter when she was 3 years old picking her nose. When asked if she was picking her nose she'd deny it at all costs. Seems there's little difference between Chrysler's position with respect to the defective TIPM module and that of my 3 year old.

Grand Cherokee Laredo V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,195 miles

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, purchased on July 9, 2013. I first started experiencing intermittent issues with the car not starting or stalling. At first removing the start button and using the key would start the car. I thought it was just an issue with a key. Then a few weeks later I started reading up on this TIPM issue, including the class action law suit that does not include the state of Texas. Due to other issues I've experienced with this vehicle over the course of the past year, I decided to shop for another vehicle.

I went back to the dealership and explained to them all the issues and they appeared sympathetic so they said they would give me more for my Jeep than it was worth on a trade-in. I thought this would be a suitable solution to finally rid myself of this worrisome vehicle. So the car I purchased (Cadillac via auction) is due to arrive at midnight tonight. But guess what, I can't start this Jeep to take it down to the dealership for the trade. So now I'm wondering if I'll have to be liable for the repair especially after I cancelled my extended warranty last week based on the new car sale.

This experience has put a really bad taste in my mouth with both the dealership and Chrysler. I hate that I bought this car and it's been a total thorn in my ass. I'm going to try the fuse switch as suggested to see if I can get the car started. If I can, the next stop is the dealership and I can only pray that I'm able get rid of this car before absorbing any high cost of repairs..........

It's the dreaded TIPM. I have 2 cars, and both are Jeeps. I have to say that I am totally disgusted with Jeep and will never buy another. $1200 to repair, a nation back order of parts, and run around from the company. Why does it take a class action suit to solve this issue?

Someone in this company is asleep on the job. You'll lose the one thing Jeep has always had, brand loyalty.

The adventurous spirit shouldn't mean figuring out how to get home when your car craps out on you.

Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

First time the problem occurred was 8/14/14. In the morning my Jeep started without issue, however, when I tried to leave after work the engine would continually turn over without ever starting. After 5 attempts I had to call for a ride home. The next morning I tried a few more times and the engine finally started on the fourth try. At the dealership I was told they could not fit me in, but I could leave it and they would get to it when they could (no estimate on time, just when they could). I initially went online to search for another mechanic near me and found all the complaints about the TIPM along with the class action law suit filed last year. For the last week I was able to start my Jeep with remote start, however, this morning remote start would not work. I was finally able to get the engine to start after about 6 tries, then after driving about 100 yards the engine turned off while the rest of the dash read as if it was still running. I had to push my Jeep out of the way, call off of work, and am now waiting for someone at the dealership to answer.

As a side note, I called the dealership last weekend after seeing all the complaints and the class action law suit to see if they had a TIPM in stock. They told me they did, that it was $990 for the part (without labor), and that they refused to replace it without first doing their own inspection for $95. All in all, this feels like a bully stole my key and is now charging me $1000 to "find" and return it, when I can clearly see him holding it.

The car has been a parked car. I can't get it to work, my mother is very ill and I'm taking the bus to help her. Back in April I paid for the start button module to be replaced, I returned believing it was the same issue. Jeep dealer service and repair stated it was something else and would cost me another $1000 plus, first a $100 to see what the problem might be. The Jeep has another recall on the brakes I can't bring it in to have that repaired. A friend mechanic looked at it and said it seemed like the fuel pump, it would $400 for the part and then labor. Someone suggested I research online and I found that this is high problem and Jeep won't own up to it. This must be addressed. It isn't safe and I live in California. I need my car and don't have tons of money. Only to spend on a issue that is not normal wear and tear of the car. It's also not covered under warranty. Something needs to be done about this now!!!!
