Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 53,451 miles
My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee that is equipped with a V-8 5.7L engine failed because of a faulty fuel pump relay inside the totally integrated power module (tipm-7). Fortunately the vehicle was not moving at the time and would not start. The car has been sitting at the dealer since 11/4 because Chrysler has informed them that there is a backlog of well over 1,000 tipm-7 units and they don't know when or if they will be available (their words, not mine)! frankly, I am outraged as a consumer. I paid $42,000 for a vehicle I cannot use.

I'd like to register a formal complaint "for the record". regarding Chrysler group's recall #S P14, P36 and P54 for the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4... parts are still not available (since May 2014 for the power brake booster!) this is totally unacceptable. Individually, the harbinger of these three (3) recalls could result in; (a) power-assisted braking failure, (B) a vehicle interior electrical fire and, (C) intermittent / unexpected engine shutdown. I contacted the Chrysler group recall assistance center today @ 1-800-853-1403 and spoke with "[xxx]"... received a pretty lame "bs" explanation about parts availability on all three (3) recalls and the method in which they are allocated to their dealerships. She could not commit as to when, if ever, my dealership would receive the required parts to remedy the outstanding recalls on my vehicle. My local dealership is a smaller, rural "mom & pop" store, so the question that begs to be asked is will I ever see these parts installed before there's a recall-related incident with my wife's vehicle? the recall "system" is apparently broken, as Chrysler group is not diligently fulfilling their safety obligations and nobody from NHTSA is apparently doing anything about enforcing it, quite disconcerting and unacceptable! as of today's registered complaint(s), kindly consider NHTSA and Chrysler group as officially put on notice of my complaint and of my dire concern for this particular situation. Note that the problem is not with my local dealership, as they've been trying to acquire the necessary parts on my behalf from Chrysler group. Please follow-up Chrysler group without further delay and report your findings to me. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

My vehicle has been having difficulty starting. It sometimes takes 3-10 times to start. It sometimes doesn't start at all, leaving me stranded with an infant in tow. I had the problem diagnosed and was informed of a temporary repair to the problem but then learned of an upcoming recall for the tipm. I decided to wait on repairing the issue, unsure as to whether the fix prescribed by the dealer would be reimbursed once the recall was released. I just got an 'initial' recall notice which stated that there still was no repair for this problem - even though it was said to be the cause of potential crashes and stalls mid-drive. As I have a small child in the car with me every time I drive, I am extremely cautious and nervous about this issue and the risk I am taking by continuing to drive this vehicle without a repair. I bought this car specifically because of the safety it would provide my family in transportation. Now I am acutely aware of the dangers involved and the need for a fix immediately.

Turn signals failed, windshield wipers failed to turn off, traction control turned off, horn failed to work, interior lights failed to work, could not turn lights onto highbeam, rear wiper failed to turn on, electronic transmission shifted into a different gear while driving. It was determined that this was a failure of the angle sensor in the steering column. The failure of this part caused significant failures of the main safety equipment of the vehicle (turn signals, headlamps, windshield wipers, traction control, transmission, horn) hazards because the primary safety equipment of the vehicle failed to function correctly while it was being driven.

Was driving and the vehicle stop on the highway, got out of the way from traffic. I tried to start the vehicle but it try to turn over. I let go of the key it was still trying to start by itself. It finally started I drove it home. I tried to start the Jeep it just turn over without starting let go of the key it still trying to start on its own. I called the dealer and talked with service dept, service advisor name is [xxx]. he told me to bring it in. I drove it to the dealer on 9/23/14. Got my car back on 9/26/14. I was told it was the tipm, {totally integrated power module}. I got a recall notice from Chrysler group, safety recall notice. Chrysler charged me $1,307.48 to replace the tipm. Then I had to take it back to the dealer because there was a recall for the brake booster had it fixed the same time for the tipm. I got home with the vehicle I when to the store got up the street the brakes when to the floor. It frighten the hell out of me. Got that fixed then the brake lights stay on plus no brake lights, looks like I was riding my brakes, had to take it back to the dealer again. Our Jeep was giving us problems starting & many of times we had to get it jumped or charge the battery all night. My fiance spoke to Jeep about this problem as it seems certain systems aren't completely turning off & thus using up our battery even when the vehicle is off. They currently have a two week waiting period for service and now we have a completely out of commission Jeep. It will no longer start, it will turn over but that's all. This is only three months after having to do the brake recall since we would randomly lose our brakes. I currently have a 3 year old car, that I can't use & a two week wait till it can be fixed. I commute 45 minutes to work & this was supposed to be our winter weather vehicle. Very disappointed with Jeep.

10/27/14- tried to start car using push-button start- car engine would not turn over, however dashboard indicator lights came on, and also a message in the menu that read- no bus tipm. Windshield wipers came on (but the control was in the "off" position), and would not stop even when control was switched on and off. Only stopped with push-button start button was pressed. Tried several times with same results. Called tow truck, had car towed to neighborhood licensed mechanic. 2 days later, was told to have car towed to Jeep dealership because they couldn't identify the problem. Had car towed to Jeep dealership 10/30/14 and after 1 1/2 days, was told that it was the tipm module & would need replaced. Car can not be driven until part is replaced. $980 for the tipm module & $90/hour for labor, and no guarantee that this would fix the problem. I purchased this car used in May 2014, with 2000 miles/2-3 mos. Left on the 3 year/36K mile basic limited warranty. This car is no longer under warranty & I must pay for this repair out of pocket.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that there were various electrical shortages within the vehicle that occurred intermittently. The dealer was not able to neither replicate nor diagnose the failures. The contact also indicated that the brakes failed on several occasions and went to the floorboard abnormally. The contact had to apply force to stop the vehicle on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who installed insufficient rotors and did not secure the tires causing them to fracture. The contact had to take the vehicle back to have the dealer to have them reinstall the correct rotors. The vehicle was repaired by the authorized dealer for the brake failure however, the failure intermittently recurred. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
