Grand Cherokee

  • 98,000 miles
I started having issues with my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee in late July/ early August where the vehicle would have issues starting. I replaced the batteries in the key fob, but it didn't solve the problem. I took it into the dealership as the problems had continued and increased. I informed them that I had read about the issues with the tipm, but they disregarded my concern and told me that the computer was not reading the keys and I needed to order new ones, which I did. Not even a week later, I brought it back to the dealership as it was giving me the same problems of not starting. He said that they would not be able to do anything if I could not recreate it, so I kept driving it knowing that it may or may not start. Yesterday, 10/28 the fuel pump would not turn off and caused the battery to drain. I had to call roadside assistance and took it to the dealership the following morning as the problem was still occurring. Today they told me that it was indeed the tipm that was faulty and that it needed to be replaced.

Vehicle (recently purchased used) would not start when pushing start button in vehicle. The first day it would start using remote start on fob. However, this problem occurred again next day and would not start from inside car or using remote outside car. It appeared to start remotely but would die within seconds. When trying to start from inside engine would crank but not start. After several start attempts, I could smell fuel. After 20 minutes and probably 15 attempts, engine started and I was able to return home. Have been afraid to drive vehicle since after reading numerous complaints on internet. There is a recall for this 2011 model relating directly to this problem, but only for vehicles manufactured before 7/20/2010. This vehicle shows a manufacture date of 9/2010. This problem has been identified and is being investigated for defective fuel pump relay in tipm. I am afraid to drive the car.

There is a known issue and recall with the tipm failing. My car has the same issues. Starting issues and engine will at times just die while driving. My wife had the car stop right in the middle of an active intersection. The dealership has diagnosed this as the problem but when I call Chrysler they say my car is not included in the recall. Cost will be over $1,000 to fix. My car is now dangerous and I never know when it will start or not.

Intermittent no start. It takes 3 - 15 attempts to start the vehicle. There is a service recall for similar problem in the same model and vehicle year, but my vehicle VIN is not included in the recall. I am not sure how that is possible, unless Chrysler uses different electronic components during the manufacturing process, which might explain why they have so many problems. I also can't help but wonder if Chrysler is only recalling those vehicles that belong to owners in the states where they lost a lawsuit on the problem. Unfortunately I guess for me, I am not in one of those states.

A 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 64,000 miles on it is sitting in my driveway, as it will not start. I find it appalling that a car that is 3 years old can have so many issues plaguing it. It is a money pit. There is a cylinder 2 misfire (needs cylinder head), a torque converter code, and a faulty fuel pump relay on the 'totally integrated power module'. the safety of my family, and the consumer in general, is compromised - when a $30,000 vehicle has the potential to stall while driving. When working, the Jeep decelerates while driving, has low power and idles very irregularly. I am very disappointed with my purchase and with the fact that Chrysler stands for such faulty products.

This is the second time that the alternator shorted out seized and killed battery within 9 months, so battery completely dies - first time couldn't even jump start so had to tow, second time I left it connected to jump starter wires for 8 minutes and the car started and took it to dealership. First time it happened in Nov 2013 and now again in October 2014. Central avenue Chrysler Jeep dealership doesn't know why this is happening, as it shouldn't. I had to pay for the replacement twice now, $400 first time and $500 second time.

These Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 have the starting which is cause of a bad electric problem. In which keep knows about for a long time and doesn't want to do a recall for this item. When it can cause a fire a person to crash when the engine stalled and airbags deploys while driving. I very unsafe problem which cause the consumer around 1500 to fix when it is a manufacturer problem and defect. I think and they should fix it asap before a family gets killed for this and it will be worse. Thanks

When I left the house for work it started fine and went around the corner to convenience store and when I got back in to leave it wouldn't start. The engine turned over, but wouldn't start. I waited a few minutes, took the key out of the ignition and tried again and it started right up. The same thing happened the following day. It started fine in the morning, drove to work and then it never wouldn't start again. During the day I tried several times. Once it did start but it sounded like the accelerator was pushed all the way down (motor revved up) so I just turned it off. Had to leave it at work overnight, the following morning went to try and get it home and it started again just fine. I know it's not the battery because it has 100% charge and all the electronics work ie. Windows, locks, radio, lights etc.

It all started with what we thought was a bad key fob. After about 3 trips to the dealer they finally suggested that we replace the key fob. That seemed to take care of the problem for a little while then it progressed to not starting on the 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd try. It just kept getting worse until it might take up to 10 tries before it would fire up. Then it got to when it would start it would immediately die. About 3 weeks ago my wife was leaving the driveway of our house and the thing just quit while she was going through the gate. I'm just thankful that she wasn't on the highway at speed when it happened as she had our young son with her as well. About 2 days later the battery was dead when my wife got in to leave work. As I was away from home working and she needed a vehicle she took it back to the dealer (don marshall Chrysler in somerset, ky.) where they proceeded to install a new battery at the rip-off price of over $300!! about a week later I figured out why the battery had went dead so quickly. I drove it to my in-laws house and when I got out of it I heard the fuel pump continuing to run even after the engine had been shut off. My wife apparently hadn't noticed the sound of the fuel pump running when she had parked it that morning to go in to work and it had ran all day until it killed the battery. Had it at the dealer yesterday (not rip-off don marshall Chrysler) and they diagnosed it as a faulty fuel pump relay switch. (duh) I told them what it was before we took it to them. They said that until they could get the part to fix it with that I could just tap on top of the tipm to get the fuel pump to shut off.( I had been taking the battery cable off to get it to stop.) when we got it home, sure enough, I tapped the tipm and it immediately shut the fuel pump off. Well guess what? yep......the [xxx] thing wouldn't start at all this morning!! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
