I was having problems starting my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Sometimes it started and then the engine died which is very dangerous. I took it in to Jeep service and they replaced the fuel pump relay in the tipm.

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 5.7L has not starting multiple times. Other symptoms include intermittent rough idle after starting, sputtering/missing when accelerating and uphill, and intermittent failing to shift at high RPM. Dealer proposing to install starter/fuel module relay which Chrysler has made due to "amount of people with this problem" but quoting me $410 for the repair. No definitive diagnosis that this will fix all the symptoms. Advised by dealer to not drive vehicle until problem is fixed as the truck can stall or turn off at any time resulting in a serious safety risk. This is a very dangerous problem!!!

After reading many other complaints I see that my vehicle seems to also be suffering from a faulty tipm. My first attempt to start the car most days is met with what seems to be a lack of fuel but every other attempt to start the car the same day is successful without incident. There is no consistent time, speed or temperature related to what happens when the car is traveling. The dashboard lights up, radio, A/C, turn signals and headlights turn off and seat belt alert sounds. Only once has vehicle lost power briefly. When I first purchased this vehicle in 2012 the dealer cold not find the source of the problem. Now it is happening much more frequently but before I take it to the dealer and pay for the tipm I want to verify that it is a recall item. Another issue that began recently is the front passenger door would not close if opened from the inside unless we pull the exterior handle twice. I was told that this was not covered and would cost around $600.

In June 2012 my vehicle began giving problems starting after several days back and forth to the dealer I was told my vehicle needs a PCM. The PCM was ordered and replaced but the problem still exist. I was then told the tipm had an issue. The tipm was replaced and the vehicle seems to be working as far as the issues starting but I kept having problems with the vehicle shutting off while driving. Months and moths went by with me having this issue until they placed a device on my vehicle to record what's happening. After keeping my vehicle for a whole day to remove the device, a week later they said it did not record anything because it went dead. However, I was told to bring the vehicle back in for them to check spark plugs, transmission, and other things I did so and the problem went a way for couple months only to come right back. Right now I am right back at square one with the vehicle giving a hard start and the vehicle shutting off while driving. Something needs to be done about these vehicles. They need to be overhauled.

I was driving on a surface street and beginning to slow for a traffic signal when the car shut off. I had no power whatsoever; had to coast as far as I could to the side of the road; then put the car in park, and restarted it. A few weeks prior, I had taken the car to the Ontario, ca Jeep Chrysler dealership where they repaired an issue with the car not starting. The service rep stated that they had installed a circuit board overlay. It is my understanding that this is a supposed fix for tipm issues, but it did not stop my car from turning off after the repair had been done. Several months ago, I took the car into the same dealership with the complaint that the alarm - horn - had been going off randomly for no reason. At that time, the service rep said they could not replicate the issue and could do nothing. It is also my understand now that this is another symptom of tipm failure.

When you push the start button it doesn't start but if you push it 3 to 4 times after hesitation it starts as long as you pull your foot away from the brakes but a mechanic told me that he hears the fuel pump coming on and staying on even though the car isn't running. I called Chrysler on Monday the 15th of September and according to them and the local dealer I had to pay to repairs and it sounded like a tipd problem or a fuel pump or this or that but I had to bring it for them to look at and they will give me an estimate. I have a government vehicle to drive to work and back and I had to depend on other people to get to places and use the Jeep when I have to yet it takes a few minutes to get it started until I can file a complaint after all the vehicle has low mileage and sounded like a defect. Thankfully I heard on the national news yesterday that they are recalling the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee for that same problem and after reading other complaints on the same year vehicle it was like seeing a carbon copy of my complaint. What happened to me and my children when the Jeep stalled on camp kanata rd. In wake forest, nc will not be forgotten. It frightened me mainly for my child. She was worried that we were going to be hit from the rear when the Jeep stopped suddenly only 100 ft. From leaving the driveway of camp kanata. We thought we had a flat tire or that the vehicle will not start again but again thankfully we weren't hit.

Hello, I was browsing the internet after running into the faulty tipm with my 2011 Grand Cherokee. I purchased a certified pre owned vehicle from buhler bitter dealership in hazlet NJ in late January/ Feb 2014. This past Friday I brought my vehicle to the dealership to have the problem looked at. In return I was given a bill for over 1,500 dollars to fix the issue. They told me the issue was not a recall and was not covered by the limited warranty I was given. Earlier this year I started experiencing starting difficulties with my Jeep. While pressing the start button, the ignition would run but not turn over. Eventually it would start. However, over the summer the problem became worse and on occasion the vehicle would not start and when it did it would stall out. I took it to the dealer on 8/23/2014 and they were able to replicate the problem. They called me and said I had a bad fuel pump and it needed to be replaced at a price of $1,300. While the Jeep was in the shop, I started doing an online search of my problem and discovered the problem that a huge number of people were having - a bad tipm. On 8/26/2014 I went in to pick up the vehicle and noticed on my receipt that they replaced the tipm and not the fuel pump. I presented my research with the service tech and said since this is definitely a design flaw with this vehicle, this should either be covered under warranty or recall. He said that he had no authority to do this and I was forced to pay $1,233.42 to retrieve my vehicle. I have now been made aware of a recall for this problem wherein the remedy will be to replace the fuel pump relay with one external to the tipm at no charge. Since my problem was resolved prior to this recall I am expecting a reimbursement of the $1,233.42 that I have already paid.

On Friday, 9/19/14, my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee almost killed me. I was driving between va and NY via I-81 for a family funeral. I stopped half-way there for lunch and then experienced a problem starting it. Hitting the start button, it would not start, and would not stop trying to do so - it kept cranking and would not stop until I opened the door. It did this 3-4X, and then it started. It had never done this before. I continued on, more cautiously. An hour later, while passing several big rigs, part of the electrical system stopped working. I lost power steering, accelerator function, and my dash lit up - and the engine continued running and even revved despite the lack of the accelerator. My brakes also didn't work for approx. 10 seconds. The road curved, and I almost lost control and flipped the Jeep trying to avoid the big rigs, which were slamming on their brakes all around. Ultimately, I was able to pull over with no accident or damage and turned the vehicle off. After 15 minutes, it re-started, and I was able to get to my destination with no other problems. Upon arrival, however, I experienced the same things while testing it at very low speeds on back roads. After the funeral on Saturday, I was able to get it to the local dealership, where it still is undergoing diagnostics. I had to travel back to va on Sunday, and now have to rent a car, deal with long-distance repairs with an unknown dealership, and travel back to NY to get it once repaired. The dealership indicated it sounded like a tipm issue, which I have learned Jeep/Chrysler know about, but have not recalled. I have previously experienced minor electrical issues (flashlight never worked, multiple back bulbs, etc), which the dealership indicated may indicate tipm issues since the day I bought the vehicle, but were always dealt with as isolated repairs. Please help with a Jeep/Chrysler tipm recall!

I parked the car in the garage and heard a noise. After searching the whole car, the fuel pump was stuck on. I turned car on and off thinking it would reset and it did not. I had to pull the fuse to turn off the pump. I took it to the dealer and was told that the tipm was bad and will cost $1500 to replace.
