Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,000 miles

This jeep randomly just dies when you're driving it. Whether it be coming to a full stop or going through an intersection. The worst was on 2/29/2024 when I was in the 3rd lane of the freeway going 70 mph and lost all power to the vehicle. I was almost hit and killed. Jeep has a known recall for this problem however my VIN is not affected apparently. I've brought it to the dealer multiple times to see what code it has thrown only to find out nothing pops up. At this point I am too scared to drive it and am out of a vehicle.

Grand Cherokee Limited V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 101,046 miles

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited stalls repeatedly at freeway speeds after the V62 recall installation. This recall was implemented to "fix" the very thing that is happening now! I've taken this vehicle to 2 different dealerships twice. The dealerships cannot reproduce the problem, so Chrysler customer care (oxymoron) will not admit there's a problem at all. Initially, I was promised a reimbursement for my 2-week rental car but was told: "Your reimbursement is based on warranty repairs." Since the recall TIMP 7 bypass was preformed just over 2 years ago, the part is out of warranty, they refused to reimburse me. The vehicle has lost power 5 times on the freeway. No power steering or braking. I have been extremely lucky not to have injured myself or anyone else. Chrysler has been sued and lost (see Velasco v. Chrysler) for this same issue. Supposedly, a second recall notice with a permanent fix should have should have been mailed out to all effected owners. I have not had any such notice sent to me to date. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA (useless). The NHTSA does not care about a single complaint unless there are MULTIPLE complaints from other owners for the same thing.

My only remedy now is to retain a lawyer. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, have you found a solution?

Please post a reply to this tread. Good luck and keep your family safe!

Grand Cherokee Outland V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,500 miles

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with only 54,500 died while driving at 55 mph only three miles from home. Not running, no power steering, and the entire dash lights were clicking and flashing on/off. Fortunately was able to get into the right Lane and turn off the roadway. Had to call a tow truck and disconnect the battery to stop it from clicking and lights going on/off in and outside the vehicle. Had it towed to a Chrysler Jeep Dealer 3 miles away. It has now been sitting there in the Florida sun for 4 months now melting and destroying the inside of the vehicle waiting on the National back order of the TIPM. FOUR MONTHS!!!

And when I tried to trade it in to the dealer who has it, only offered $3000 for a great low mileage vehicle when the NADA ranges from $11,000- $15,000. Even they don’t want it since they know how bad this TIPM ISSUE has become! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT AGAIN!! FOUR MONTHS for one part that is basically the fuse box. Poorly designed fuse box! My Chrysler claim response just sends me a monthly email stating that there is no new information to share. Have had to resort to Uber to get anywhere since they will not provide assistance. Knowing what I know now after 4 months, I should have just wrecked the vehicle while driving at 55 mph instead of utilizing my driving skills.

Dealer does not recognize it as part of outstanding V62 RECALL. It was repaired as a recall before, but obviously insufficiently. Now PCM gone, alternator burned, battery death, and there was not even any low charge warning light on dash. Jeep not have one.

Grand Cherokee

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,200 miles

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has shut down on me on 4 occasions while driving. I lost all power and nearly hit someone the other day. It takes numerous times to try and start the vehicle after this occurs. I had a diagnostic test done and there are no fault of error codes. I had all the recalls done on the vehicle that I'm aware of. I noticed searching the web that there is numerous people with the same issues. If anyone has had this problem resolved I would love to here from you.

Grand Cherokee Overland V8 Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,730 miles

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland V8 Hemi. Relatively no problems in the 6 years I've owned it. 8 months ago, I was making a left hand turn going about 20 mph and in the midst of the turn the steering wheel and the brakes lost power and the engine shut down. Luckily I ended up in the grass and was scared to death. I took the Jeep to the dealership and they couldn't diagnose.

Tuesday April 9th, 2018 I was making a right hand turn doing about 15 and the exact same thing happened. This time I almost hit the car in oncoming traffic that was sitting at the light. I missed the car by a foot. No power to steering OR brakes and engine had shut off again. I restarted it and took it to the Jeep dealership.

The dealer is telling me in order to diagnose it would need to happen while their technician is driving it. My Jeep is at the dealership now and I don't feel safe driving this again with no resolution or repair. In 2015 I did have the recall done for the fuel relay switch. The service advisor said that he's seen a couple of vehicles that had to have the switch replaced twice.

ANY and all advice would be greatly appreciated. I hope no one has to die in order for Chrysler to take action with a resolution.

Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,465 miles

I bought this 2011 GC Limited used Nov. 2017. In less than a month it cut off on me while I was driving. I put the vehicle in park, it started back up. I was very shook up as realized how serious of an incident this could have been. A few weeks later this happened 2 days in a row. These times I shifted in to Neutral and was able to restart vehicle while rolling. I have observed that this usually happens when I am slowing down on a decline to make a right turn. All recalls have been done except the brake booster and the sun visor wire. I bought an extended warranty. Hopefully, any findings will be covered by recall or by warranty. From all the research I've done, it does not look like Jeep has a resolution for this issue. I love this SUV but, this is a extremely dangerous issue to have. I wouldn't be surprised if there have been deaths from this failure. Unfortunately, there is no one to tell. I love you Jeep, but I love myself and family more. Own up to it! You are an American icon! Act like it!

Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,800 miles

After limited searching, realizing the stalling issue with our 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland is more common than I thought and a known issue the Fiat Chrysler. My wife and son were driving to soccer practice and while decelerating around a curve, the Jeep lost power, engine stalled, no acceleration, no power steering, no brakes. She ended up rolling through the curve, off the road, and into a field, barely missing some road signs and telephone phone. Put quite a scare into her and my son, and potentially very deadly issue. Putting the car in park and hitting the ignition put the car back in normal operation.

We believe this is the first occurrence, but a few months back, my wife was making a left turn, and inexplicable hit another car head-on saying afterwards she didn't know what happened. It was at low speed and fortunately no one was hurt, but the Jeep required thousands $ for repair, and the car she hit was totaled. Thinking back now, she believes the Jeep may have done the same exact thing before the accident. She was just so frazzled at the time she didn't realize it.

We are scared to drive the Jeep anywhere at this point. Were not able to get an appointment with the local Dodge-Jeep dealership for another week. I keep reading about the TIPM module, and Fiat-Chrysler did issue a related safety recall around January 2015 (P54 Fuel Pump Relay) which our Jeep has received, but I also saw notes about other Safety Recalls (T54, T36 relating to the TIPM) which I'm not sure have been performed. Hoping the Jeep Dealer has record. We bought the car used in 2014 from this same dealer. So the issue appears to be acknowledge by FCA, just not fixed, even with safety recalls performed. Seems to be a recurring theme with many Jeep GC owners, that this stalling issue persists even after TIPM replacements.

I really do like this Jeep, but I don't think our family is long for this car or any other Chrysler-Jeep product ever again (if it doesn't kill us first). We'll have to wait to see what report or story the dealership gives us next week.

Grand Cherokee Overland 5.2L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

Our Jeep has several times lost all power and control while driving on the highway. It has happened at freeway speeds and normal street speeds a total of about four times. All power cuts out, including power steering and the engine. We have narrowly avoided getting into a serious crash. This condition could easily lead to a fatal Collision. The dealer thought it was a relay and replaced it, but it happened again. So, the relay was not the problem.

**It's really important for everyone who has this complaint to contact Jeep in writing and file a report with the NHTSA each time it happens. We do not feel safe driving our vehicle and if it cannot be diagnosed and fixed, we have to get rid of it.

Grand Cherokee Laredo LX V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,434 miles

The car is not driveable. The check engine light came on. Then it wouldn't start. Tried a different fob and it started but drove rough. Codes indicated sensor problems, so a sensor was replaced twice. It would drive properly for 10 - 15 miles after the fix and then begin to stall out while driving. It starts but begins to stall when you put it in drive. after revving the engine you can get it going but then the brakes act like they aren't working. Now the ABS light is on. It's in shut down mode. It's not included in the TIPM recall. It shows different codes each time its tested. This should not be happening! The dealer wants to charge us nearly $200 to diagnose the problem. Ridiculous!!!

Grand Cherokee Laredo X 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 157,500 miles

I had the fuel relay recall work done due to the fact that it would stall when coming to a stop or turning right or left. It's intermittent and simply dies with no warning. I have had the Jeep in service 3 times for this and since the dealer can't replicate the problem they say it's fine. They claim to have checked the entire system but find no codes. Yet my Jeep still stalls when it wants to; I get no warning and I have been in nearly 4 accidents losing power while in a turn with traffic, and people almost rear ending me when I lose power in an intersection. You can barely turn it once the power steering goes and the brakes are far less effective since they lose the power assist. I can't let anyone else drive it because although I am prepared for it; no one else would be and it would likely result in a serious accident.

Grand Cherokee Limited V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,052 miles

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 lost all power while getting off the highway exit. This has happened 4 times in the last month. My two children were in the vehicle with me when it last happened, both under 3 years old. I felt EXTREMELY UNSAFE at the time of failure, everything shut down, there was no power steering, which almost made us go right into a guard rail. This is a SERIOUS ISSUE that JEEP/CHRYSLER MUST TAKE CARE OF. After reading endless blogs online with a lot of people having the same issue, I decided to share my story. Upon calling multiple Jeep dealerships in the area they all told me that if they cant replicate the issue, then they cant fix the problem, the service reps knew and were well aware with the TIPM issues on this vehicle, after explaining multiple times to them that this happens unexpected and doesn't happen every day, they said if he cant get it to replicate the issue then they can't help fix it. All recalls have been done to my vehicle, this seems to be a very serious problem, I never felt more unsafe driving. My dashboard isn't displaying any defect lights or any codes. IF JEEP/CHRYSLER DOESN'T STEP IN TO HELP TO FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY, I have already filed complaints. My family relies on this vehicle and we need this to be safe to drive. If anyone has any advice please help.

Thank you.
