Sunroof on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition exploded for no reason. Nothing hit the vehicle or sunroof. The sunroof exploded on July 16, 2014 and the part is on national backorder until Aug 22, 2014. I have an extended warranty, but Chrysler won't cover replaced sunroof glass since it's not a mechanical issue. Also, since the glass isn't covered under the extended warranty Chrysler won't pay for a rental while my vehicle sits in a body shop waiting for the part to become available. It appears to be a manufacturing defect since the glass exploded for no reason. I don't understand why something as simple as glass for a sunroof would be on national backorder unless there is a significant issue affecting a significant number of vehicles affected. I will be without my vehicle for over a month. I have discussed this issue and requested a rental vehicle several times with Chrysler, but to no avail. Chrysler has set the bar for the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Fortunately no one was injured when the glass from the sunroof exploded as most of the glass fell primarily into front passenger seat where no one was seated at that time.
