The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH, the "Battery" warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the alternator was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer who confirmed the alternator failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 88,000.

The contact stated that the failure was repaired.. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While pulling into the driveway at 5 mph, the contact observed smoke coming from the engine and heard an abnormal winding sound without warning. The contact stopped the vehicle, opened the hood, and observed that the alternator was red (glowing). The contact poured water over the alternator to prevent a fire. The local dealer (my Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat, 4650 E pickard rd, mt pleasant, mi, 48858) was contacted at 989-773-6343. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was confirmed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17V435000 (electrical system) for the alternator replacement, but the part was unavailable. The dealer stated that they could replace the alternator with another alternator for a fee. Once the recall alternator was available, the dealer could replace it with the correct alternator from the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 32614886. The manufacturer confirmed that the parts were unavailable and there would be a fee for the non-recalled part. No additional assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (sunland park Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, 950 crockett street, el paso, tx 79922) where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts not being availble. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17V435000 (power train). The part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was not aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 35,700.
