2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was in park, I shifted it into drive, the vehicle moved about 1 foot, and jerked itself back into park. I tried every other gear and the same thing happened. After about 15 minutes I tried it again and it worked fine. When the tow company came to pick it up, it started jerking itself back into the park position again, from every gear according to the tow company, a flat bed trailer was used to take it to the dealership because a regular tow truck could not move it. Dealership has indicated to me that they have found nothing wrong with it (July 6, 2016), for me to go pick it up. I did notify the manufacturer, and I await a response. All of this occurred after the S27 update was performed on the vehicle. Very dangerous situation even more so than the problems that they tried to fix. Mileage 32333. The vehicle was stationary in a flat leveled parking lot.

On 11/4/14 after parking my new Jeep Grand Cherokee at grocery store parking lot, on a completely level surface, after placing vehicle in park, exiting and walking toward store entrance I saw my car coming at me out of corner of my eye. The car had "popped" out of park and into neutral, and was rolling backwards toward me. I was waiting for another vehicle to pass by in the parking lot on my way into the store when this occurred. My Jeep kept rolling slowly backwards towards me. It collided into a car passing through the parking lot. The other car had 3 children in car seats in the back seat. Luckily no one was injured, but I was mortified at the looks on those children's faces, they were very scared! I have been driving many years & this was not driver error. My husband and I tried numerous times to recreate the scenario without success. The warning alarm signal would come on if the car were not in park and you tried to exit it, so I know that it had been completely in park and had "popped out" after I exited. I immediately took the car to the dealer at valencia, California superstores Chrysler Jeep and told them of the incident. They checked the car and said there was nothing wrong with it. They had it for several days and were unable to determine the problem with it popping out of gear and Chrysler corporate said they hadn't had complaints. They told me there was nothing wrong with it and to pick it up. It is a defective death trap and I did not feel safe driving it after this incident. In researching the internet to see if this had happened to anyone else I came across a blog from 10/31/13 where the same vehicle model/year had popped out of park into reverse which was also reported to Chrysler, yet they continued to sell these cars to the public. Something needs to be done about this. They are unsafe and lives are at risk with them on the roadways.

I parked the car & placed the gear shift in park. The engine was still on. I exited the car to mail a letter. The car suddenly rolled back hitting a car that was waiting for my parking spot. The accident report states the car was "driverless". I contacted the dealer. Reluctantly they examined the car & said nothing was wrong. I asked how was it possible to exit the car if it wasn't in park. My foot would have to be on the brake or it would roll. So I couldn't exit the car with my foot on the brake!! obviously something is seriously wrong with the gear shift. It has a mind of its own & slips unless the engine is completely shut off. I had no way of entering the car as it rolled to prevent it from hitting another car. If I did most probably I would have been seriously injured. Town & Country Jeep totally disregarded my complaint.

When I was trying to make a quick 3 point turn, I had difficulty getting the vehicle into reverse because of the lack of "feeling" in the electronic shifter control. First, it went into park, then neutral. Finally I got it into drive but the delay caused a safety hazard. A car coming the opposite direction had to maneuver around me.

Had issues with gear shifter since purchase. Had an accident in a parking lot. I parked my car and wanted to leave it running, put the car in park. Stepped out of my car and walked into the store. I was alerted that my car had backed across the parking lot and hit another car. The car was in reverse. Men in the parking lot were yelling at me asking why I would get out of car with it in reverse. Obviously, not what I did. Problem seems to have become worse. It now can take 3 tries to get the car all the way into park. My vehicle is still damaged. The other vehicle was much worse. I managed to put tail lights etc back in temporarily. The corner panel is popped out on drivers side with scratches on rear of car. I called the troy police and they said because it was a parking lot, they didn't need to come and write a report.

When I saw the news story on 3/21/16 about the gear shifter, in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it validated what I had been experiencing. I had disliked the design since the first day I owned the car. When I shifted, I was always in the wrong gear. A fellow Jeep owner suggested, I shift as hard as I could into park and the same for drive. It worked most of the time. I have often started to exit the car only to find it was in reverse, not park and I often put it in park when I mean to reverse as well as sport mode when I want drive. Luckily, a signal does go off and I can put my foot back on the break and shift it into park. I had never exited the car and had it roll, but it makes sense that someone would. It is a horrible design and I am hoping for a recall that would make Jeep replace the gear shifter. I had to enter a date that it happened below, but it happens all the time. I cannot actually report an accident/incident, I simply want to validate the theory that the design is flawed and dangerous.

We are leasing a 2014 Jeep Cherokee componen:T gear shift- vehicle rolled back after thinking it was in park but driver was able to jump back in and stop it on several occasions, but on one occasion, vehicle rolled backward in a parking garage into a cement pillar after exiting the car thinking it was in the park position causing severe damage to the rear and driver side. New gear shift design very tricky and could be potentially dangerous

We have had 4 incidents of unintended braking (PE15-021) from the collision control system. Extreme autonomous braking when nothing was in the way. Additionally, we had one case of unintended acceleration in low speed (less than 10 mph) stop & go commuter traffic resulting in a rear end crash with damage to our Jeep and the vehicle in front of us and the next vehicle in front of them (3 vehicles total). Jeep accelerated hard on its own without pressing the gas pedal.

On at least two occasions the Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled after the shifter was placed in park position. !. on 11/18/2013 door was ajar while driver was about to turn off vehicle. Jeep slipped out of park and slowly backed into a concrete buttress at a gas station causing $900 damage to the driver door and front quarter panel. 2. in that same week, shifter slipped out of park while driver was behind vehicle taking a photograph. Serious injury prevented by passenger who pushed the shifter back into park. Vehicle taken to dealer for this problem on 11/22/2013. Dealer inspected and had inspection by Chrysler field rep. Both denied problem. See attachment. The problem continues. It is necessary to carefully insure transmission is in park by holding gear shift in place.

I have huge problems with the key-less ignition and the engine not turning off in two circumstances. First, the engine is very quite and the radio does not turn off when the car is turned off. If you miss the shut off button the car continues to run even when you leave with the key. There is no warning when you leave the still running car with the key. You come back hours later and the car is still running. Second, the electronic shifter is so inaccurate that it is very easy to try to put it in park and leave it just short and in reverse. The Jeep won't turn off while it is still in gear, but it is so quiet that it is easy to miss that it is still running (particularly if you did not immediately get out of the car). When you take your foot off the brake the car starts to roll. Very dangerous. Jeep's response is to put the parking brake on, but who does that anymore if you are not on a hill.

I have real problems with the "electric" gear shift. I cannot tell what position it is in. Latest episode occurred when I was valeting the car. I left the car running and put the car in park (at least I thought I did). When I opened the door to let the car valet take the car, it started to roll backward with me half in, half out of the car. The car came very close to knocking me down and rolling over me. If the attendant had not been able to physically stop the car it would have run me down. This is not the first time this has happened. You just cannot feel the "dedents" indicating what gear it is in. The scariest car I have ever owned.

Less than 32,000 miles on 2014 Grand Cherokee, getting off freeway on sharp turn exit, there was a thunk and our bodies lurched forward as vehicle dropped into 1st gear. Pulled over, check engine light on but not blinking so ignored as dealership service representative that not critical if not blinking. We were able to move, but transmission slipped until reached 20 mph and ran ok until we were home about 1/2 mile away. We then tested the shifting and vehicle would not go into reverse. Next morning, the car would not move at all in any gear. Had it towed to dealership. The service rep called the next morning indicating that the transmission failed and they needed to order a new one to replace it. Awaiting new transmission.
