Driver headrest deployed with no reason while driving 45mph in a busy avenue during rush hour (5pm). It hit driver in the back of the head causing confusion and dizziness. Found a small plastic piece broken inside mechanism. Headrest still installed, haven't taken it to dealer for repair because online comments says repair would be around $900 at my own expense and no way I'm paying for a malfunction.

The passenger seat headrest violently exploded open while I was driving. If this were to have happened while someone was in the car, or on my driver's side headrest, someone could have easily been injured. It sounded as if an airbag opened in the car. I have not gotten it inspected yet but have read multiple forums of this happening on other 2014-2015 jeep Grand Cherokee and am wondering how this is not a recall. No warning signs given.

While the vehicle was in operation traveling straight ahead on roadway the vehicles drivers headrest -??popped-?? causing operators head to jerk forward while vehicle was in motion. Driver was able to maintain control of vehicle but was startled by the sudden explosion and impact on head. This could have easily caused operator to loose control and be involved in a motor vehicle accident. There were no warning messages when this occurred and nothing had been done to the headrest prior to it exploding open. After inspecting the headrest it appears a plastic part inside the headrest snapped.

The Active Headrest on this 2015 Jeep deployed at random. There was no accident or other event to cause this deployment. The deployment launched the headrest forward making the headrest strike the drivers head. Upon visual observation of the headrest, there appears to be a failure of the structural material securing the retainer pin. Dangerous! Forums abuzz with this known issue. Needs recalled IMO.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit passenger-side headrest unexpectedly deployed yesterday, August 11, 2022, without warning and with explosive force while driving without any vehicle accident occurring or any impact to the body of the car. No human injury occurred, though the intense force of the explosion caused my cell phone to jump out of the cup holder as the force translated through the seat and center console and nearly caused loss of driving control with pedestrians in close proximity to the car. It could have easily caused injury or death if it had been the driver's side, especially at greater speed. Have not yet been able to take the car to a dealer so quickly afterward. I find no recalls under my VIN, though I found an electronic copy of Mopar Warranty Bulletin No. D-20-10, dated August 26, 2020, stating an immediate 10 year/unlimited mileage warranty extension (X88) Active Head Restraint for 2014-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

problem #193

Aug 102022

Grand Cherokee

The passenger side active headrest restraint spontaneously engaged and will not reset. I was a passenger when it happened and it struck me in the back of the head. I-??ve noticed many others with my year, make and model of vehicle have had similar issues, but Jeep is not wanting to accept there is a manufacturing default. Luckily it wasn-??t my drivers side headrest. But it could be next time and potentially while I-??m driving. There were no warnings prior and it-??s extremely rare that anyone rides in that seat.

While backing down my driveway, the headrest popped forward suddenly. There were no indicator lights or warnings before it happened. I consulted a mechanic regarding a repair/replacement. A new headrest ($1000) is required because the plastic pieces inside are broken. I am concerned about the passenger side doing the same thing while I am driving and especially if I have a passenger.

Drivers side Active head restraint, spontaneously deployed. Headrest hit driver in the head while driving. Which could have caused an accident had driver had their head against headrest or been traveling at a faster speed. No warning lights or tones before deployment. Vehicle has not been inspected by dealership, manufacturer or police as Vehicle was not in an accident. They will not be notified due to no recall or warranty. Part will be replaced by onwer. After further inspection plastic clips inside the headrest failed.

Passenger side headrest clips spontaneously broke roughly after 2-3 years of ownership, they did not break during a wreck or collision and the driver side seat is fine. I believe the headrest is supposed to detach like this during an accident but again there was nothing to prompt this happening it just seems like the clips themselves failed.

I was actively driving my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee with my 3 year old son in his car seat in the rear passenger seat when I was violently struck in the back of the head causing me to momentarily black out. I came to confused and assuming i was rear ended by another vehicle, i immediately pulled my vehicle over to check on my son, when i looked back i noticed there was no one behind me. When i got out of the car I began dry heaving and felt extremely nauseated. i checked on my son who seemed ok and on the back of my vehicle which was in perfect condition. I was still very confused and checked on my son again who was crying and scared because " mama was hurt", its at that time that i notice my driver side head rest had exploded. it was completely split in half. my active driver head restraint that is built into the head rest had gone off for no reason. An hour after being struck in the head I was till experiencing nausea, pressure in my head, head ache, neck and back pain and dry heaving. because I'm also pregnant my husband drove me to urgent care. they said i had whip lash and likely a concussion but because I'm pregnant there wasn't much the could do for me without risk to the baby. Because this happened after service hours at Jeep I called the the next morning where they advised me there are no recalls on my jeep and no warranty on the head rest. I will need to pay for it to be looked at and pay for any parts necessary to repair it.

While driving down the road the passenger side ahr (active headrest restraint) unexpectedly deployed striking the passenger in the back of the head resulting in a migraine. Once stopped I inspected the headrest and saw that two plastic pieces that held the metal rod in place had broken even though we were not involved in an accident or sudden stop.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving while the temperature was at 25 degrees, the driver's seat and steering wheel heating features were engaged. While driving in cold weather, the battery save mode was displayed. The contact was unable to turn off the features and had to turn off the vehicle, open doors, and restart the vehicle. The contact stated that several attempts were needed to disengage the features. The local dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.

Front passenger active head restraint deployed while parked with no collision. It was very loud, and the car shook violently. I thought something enormous been dropped on the roof of the car, but there was no impact of any kind. Had I been driving, this very definitely could have caused an accident. If the driver headrest had deployed while driving, an accident would have been all but guaranteed. The problem has not been investigated by a dealer, police, or insurance representative. There were no symptoms or warnings before the headrest exploded. The car was idling in park at the time.
