Well taken care of 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel always serviced per the factory schedule with 91500 mostly highway miles. Its a roadtrip car. 4X4 never driven off road, only in 4 wheel drive low for a couple of snow storms. Suddenly the "service 4 wheel system" warning comes on as vehicle hits 60 mph for the first time one day. The cruise doesn't work, or stability control. After 50 miles to destination the car is parked. When restarted there is no warning light. Drove 20 minutes thru the city, hit the highway, reach 60mph and it comes on again. Every time the car is turned off the light turns off. Below 60 mph everything works. Its not until it hits 60 mph that the light comes on. Dealer does diagnosis and says needs new transfer case $4700 installed. Ouch!!
Some evidence of other dealers attacking this problem by replacing the control module under the drivers seat. Its not by the book but the problem appears to go away. A lot less expensive. Stuck with this dealer as need the car back.
This a Jeep the epitome of 4 wheel drive ruggedness. One expects it to last, especially if it is well taken care of and not abused. Really sad to see it fail like this.
