Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

This is my 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I purchased it from the dealer I made sure that it was wired for the towing package. The factory installed wire harness was tucked in the back of the bumper. When I had a trailer company install my trailer hitch and plug so I could plug the trailer lights in I found that the lights did not work. After checking with the trailer hitch people they found that the factory installed wiring harness was not working. I had to go to the dealer to get the computer reprogrammed to allow the trailer lights to work. This is obviously done to make money after the sale.

It is my belief that something like a factory installed wiring harness should be operable. This is not an instance where a larger part was needed or an added accessory. This is simply a situation where, at no extra expense, when the computer is downloaded the capability to allow the wiring harness to be functional should have been performed. There is no issue where it makes sense to NOT download this capability. There is no added weight that would harm fuel economy or added cost of a part that some might not use. This is simply a company decision that gives poor customer service to make a couple of bucks. I am glad that they don't give me interior lights but if you want them to work you need to pay Jeep to make them actually work.
