exploding sunroof

While driving down the highway @ 65mph, heard a loud explosion above my head which sounded like a gunshot & began to hear wind coming from inside the vehicle. Pulled over to inspect and found half the sunroof missing. I turned around & headed for the local dealership Heartland in Excelsior Springs, Mo... Staff members could not recall hearing about sunroofs exploding. (google sunroofs exploding) The issue is well known to the auto industry and government safety regulators. See consumerreports.org:Exploding Sunroofs...

No one really seemed to be too concerned about what just transpired however I mention it's time to get rid of this vehicle & the salesperson became overly aggressive, VERY aggressive!!! Although the vehicle is fully insured the glass is not. It appears @ this point (just occurred 5/10/19) there's a squabble on whose responsible for payment. This has occurred in @ least 10 other vehicle models with 859 official accounts & is an under reported issue. This unit is a 2017. This is two year old glass exploding. The sunroof is original equipment. The temperature was 60 degrees. No other vehicles nearby. Traveling on highway pavement...

This lack of transparency on the true extent of this widespread safety issue may be why the problem has yet to fully bubble up into the public consciousness or to attract the serious attention of U.S. regulators. And it may be why consumers seeking remuneration have turned to joining class-action lawsuits brought against individual automakers.
