About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Had several issues with this rented vehicle still running after pushing button to stop vehicle when parked. Family members told me 'your car is still on' at least 3 times. Had issues when stopped at an intersection. The vehicle seemed to die & was very delayed when starting to go again-required more pressure on gas pedal than usual. Had issues while filling the vehicle with fuel. Several times the pump would cut off (approximately 10 times) indicating that the tank was full when I knew it wasn't. had a severe issue resulting in damage to the vehicle & the aloha island mart at 50 pakaula St. Kahului, hi 96732 gas pump. I stopped to fuel up in order to return the rental vehicle to budget rental car (865 w mokuea pl, kahului, hi, 96732), I put the vehicle in park, pushed the button to stop the vehicle to turn off the motor. Exited the vehicle to get the credit card out of my purse which was in the back on the floor board in a beach bag I saw that the vehicle was rolling back. There was no slope to the parking lot, it was level ground. I jumped back in the vehicle with left foot outside the vehicle and put my foot on the brake to stop it, it went out of control backwards. Thankfully I got my left foot in and had to use both feet on the break to stop the vehicle. Put the vehicle in park & turned it off again.the door & driver front quarter panel sustained severe damage from hitting the gas pump which also received damage. Although the pump was in workable condition once the vehicle finally started & was moved. This could have resulted in severe bodily damage to myself as well as more vehicle & bodily damage if someone had been behind me at the next pump. Needless to say I was terrified, shaking uncontrollably & the thought of what could have happened. After reading the complaints & recalls on the Jeep Grand Cherokee I feel this one should be added.

My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee just accelerated by itself up a sidewalk at a parking lot and ran into the pillar of a building. I then put it in reverse and it accelerated into a car parked beside me. The front axle snapped completely even though the impact was not tremendous. The air bag did not deploy. This vehicle has all kinds of impact sensors and usually brakes on its own even when it senses a leaf from a nearby bush and none of that worked. This happened just yesterday and I'm at a loss as to what to do. I cannot believe my internet search has yielded so many similar stories!

Every time I go to pump gas in the car, the pump will stop as if it's full. I have brought the car to 495 Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge in lowell, MA 5 times now and they fixed it once and it was fine. Then a few months later it started doing the same issue again. They say it's the gas stations and that I have to look for certain pumps, etc. I go to the same pump and gas station each time and when it doesn't work I have to drive around testing gas stations to see which will work. My car will stay at the dealership for 3-4 days just for them to say that it's the gas stations fault and not theirs. The first time this happened the mileage was at 5298 and now it is currently at 14,124 with only 1 year and 2 months of use. I currently have a claim with Chrysler as of right now.

Unable to fill with fuel. Jeep is blaming the gas pumps. 4,000 miles on vehicle. Jeep has advised turning the pump handle which eliminates the fuel cut off and causes gas to spill. This is extremely unsafe.

The contact's wife was transported by ambulance for facial and upper body burns due to the fuel. The contact was unaware of a police report being filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (croton auto park 1 municipal pl, croton-on-hudson, NY 10520 (914) 271-5100) where it was diagnosed that the fuel filler needed replacement. The contact stated that the vehicle was currently at the dealer for repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000.

After having my Jeep brand new from the dealer roughly about two weeks after purchasing the check engine light turned on. We bought our Jeep from autonation in spring, tx. We live in galveston county so when it turned on we took it to autozone for the free code check - the code read was P20E8 and it just said emissions code. No specific readout was available for the code detected. The exact Jeep we own is a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee serling edition ecodiesel. We did notice that the def fluid was not properly filled to the full level upon the purchase so figured it could in relation to that. We drove back up to spring to the dealer and told them the issue and they said ok got us in a rental and then would call us as soon as it was ready. Once we picked it up it we asked what was the cause for the code and the technician said 'oh well it was nothing - just something that we forgot to turn off'. on the way home the check engine light again comes back on the dash. We stop by another Jeep dealer in the way home and inquired with them what they thought it might be and they said 'that whatever the dealership told you cannot be true'. then bill or service or receipt said check engine light P20E8 was found def pump low pressure fault is stored, found tank low with less than 2 inches of fluid in take, found vehicle was not topped off when purchased, added def to tank and cleared codes and verified proper def fluid pressures at injector. The light remains on two days later and now a message pops on my dash and said 'def system problems see dealer'. normally I would not be so upset but this a brand new car the dealer (not mentioned) was not exactly helpful dropping off or receiving the vehicle back with any kind of helpful information. I love my car and just want to make sure it can be properly fixed so I hopefully do not have to worry about my safety or the integrity of my car.

When I try to put gas into my tank, the pump cuts off. It takes five minutes to get $16 worth of gas! it's getting worse. I've tried different pumps, different gas stations nothing helps. The dealer claims to know nothing about it. Today, the gas was spit back out! so I have shoes and feet soaked in gas! it is a capless gas tank.

Transmission problems. The transmission shifts are pronounced, cause the SUV to jerk and feel jumpy. This condition is sporadic, and can change based on mode - normal, eco off, sport. Besides causing a choppy ride, the condition is unacceptable and may be a R a precursor to gear failure.

At a gas station, with the engine turned off. On 3 different occasions, when filling up my gas tank, when I start pumping gas, the tank stops taking gas as if the tank is full. In order to continue filling the gas tank, I have to hold the gas hose handle in a specific position to allow the gas to fill the tank without stopping. Results in filling the tank at a very slow pace. Unsure if there is a sensor issue within the gas tank itself. Occurs randomly.

While trying to pump gas, the pump would pop closed as if the gas tank was full when in actuality it had only just started to pump. It would continue to do that even after adjusting how the pump sat in the tank. It took roughly 15 minutes to pump a couple gallons of gas. The car has now done this twice at different pumps at different gas stations.

Sudden unintended acceleration of my Jeep Grand Cherokee leads to total loss on on March 30, 2018. This is my story: I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2018 trailhawk from the orange park Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram dealership aka darscars of jacksonville at 7233 blanding blvd (904) 777-5500 on October 21, 2017 under a three year lease agreement with ally auto finance (1-888) 925-2559. On March 30, 2018 with approximately 3700 miles I was at the gateway pistol and rifle range at in jacksonville with my friend charlie for pistol shooting. My car was parked outside of one of the steel sheds. When rain started we decided to drive my car around and under the shed. I took the car around but couldn't quite make it into the shed and had to back up. When shifting into reverse I heard a strange noise and my friend told me later that my rear wheeles started spinning, which they are not supposed to do. When my car was in the right position my foot was still on the break I shifted to "drive". at this moment the engine roared up and raced forward. I could not stop the car. I steered it into the next empty shooting bay in 1/2 circle into the backstop ending up at the wall which was damaged in the process. All front and side airbags were deployed. It was an absolutely horrifying experience. It was plain luck that nobody was hurt. The car is presently in the hands of my insurer aaa who declared the car a total loss. I believe this is an obvious case of product liability for which the manufacturer should be held responsible! I found out yesterday that there is a special phone number for Chrysler customer care in charge of lemon car issues 1-844-521-8188. My complaint has a case number 33880270.

The contact was informed by the mechanic that the failure was not due to NHTSA campaign number: 18V048000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was advised to have the vehicle towed to another authorized Chrysler dealer to be repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 18V048000 (fuel system, gasoline). Driving the auto and applied the brakes at a red light and the brakes only partially engaged and the auto went through the red light. Drove up to the next light as the car was just about to stop it accelerated forward into the truck in front of me. There is a safety feature called "forward collision warning" which should apply the brakes and did not work (instead of braking with the Jeep safety feature the auto accelerated). The dealer repaired the damage paid by my insurance company but could not tell me why this happened or provide assurance that it would not happen again. The insurance company said they would investigate with the ntsb and review the "black box". if the truck was not in front of our vehicle we would have gone through the red light into a highway intersection. The car had slowed to 5 mph and was ten feet from auto in front and then accelerated to about 15 mph in a few seconds.

I have a few occurrences to tell about. 1. when taking it through a drive through car wash it was propelled forward at an unsafe speed. The vehicle was in neutral but still was shot forward and the brakes had to be applied quickly. This happened twice. 2. after coming off a freeway and coming to the first stoplight, when the speedometer hit 0 the vehicle lurched forward. I turned the auto stop off and proceed down the road. When I hit the next stoplight, it did the same thing, lurched forward hard, when the speedometer hit 0. 3. while getting up to speed, 70, on a freeway, the vehicle seemed to "miss" gears and it lurched a few times. 4. when approaching a turn, at slow a very slow speed, I tapped the gas for a little more speed and it propelled me forward hard and I had to hit the brakes. 5. in the first week of ownership an alert popped up on the center screen indicating the control panel had detected a problem with the catalytic converter system and it was a fire hazard. After taking it to the dealer they told me they could not find this in the computer memory anywhere and there was nothing wrong. At times I feel very unsafe in this vehicle and the whole reason I bought it is to feel safe and secure. Right now the vehicle has less than 1,000 miles on it.
