Vehcile affected: 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Overland _ 2 wheel drive Vehicle Mfr Date - October 2018 The vehicle was in Park and engine was off. I got in the driver seat, mashed the brake, pressed the starter button, the starter responded so I immediately took my hand off the button. Even without my hand on the button the starter button would not disengage-?? it just repeatedly kept spinning and spinning and spinning. Kind of like it was hung or something. I had even tried pressing the start button again to make it stop but that didn-??t work-?? (The button went in and came back out with no problem so the button itself was not stuck) The starter just wouldn-??t disengage. I couldn-??t figure out what to do. It did this for at least 30 to 45 seconds-??. Like, My husband had time to get out of the backseat and WALK all the way around the front car to the driver-??s door. Right before he got there I tapped the brake pedal with my foot and it FINALLY disengaged and stopped trying to start the engine. This problem Scared the beejeebies out of me!!! The engine never started up when the starter wouldn-??t disengage. I had plenty of gas too - Just under a full tank of gas. Nothing coded. No problem indicator lights came on. Husband said it acted like either the bendix was stuck OR motor was spin over but would not successively crank up -?? it just kept spinning on its own I was not pressing the starter button anymore. This is the hardest thing to describe! All I know is-?? that was NOT normal!

The exact same issue described in NHTSA 23E-019 happened to this vehicle, but Chrysler is saying this vehicle doesn't qualify for the recall even though the same issue described in the recall notice occurred to this vehicle and since this is a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it does fit the timeframe this recall occurred 2011-2022 (WK) Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I received a letter in the mail that my Jeep had a recall for some type of sensor that affects the brakes and brake lights. I-??ve read that a malfunction in this sensor can cause my brake to not work and can cause me to crash into someone or something. The fact that this issue hasn-??t been resolved yet is beyond me. This recall came out in 2022. It had been 2 years. What-??s going happen when a mother is driving her family around in her Jeep that also has this recall on it, she switched the brake on but it doesn-??t brake and she and her family crash into someone. Life-??s are at risk here. I am planning to start a family within the next year and I will be getting rid of this car because I will not trust my family in it.

Today after I parked my 2019 jeep grand Cherokee and locked it I noticed my brake lights stayed illuminated. I got back in my car and confirmed that I was in park and my parking brake was on and my brake pedal did not feel stuck down in any way. I also tried turning my headlamps from auto to off. That didn-??t resolve my brake light issue. I restarted it and put it in gear and drove a little and my fiancé confirmed from outside the car that even when in drive and moving without my foot on brake my brake lights stayed on. I got out and locked it again and then tried my remote start which did not function. I then decided to try drive around a little more and see if it would reset itself. Nothing changed with driving. Then after driving around I tried turning off my park sense button and the brake light went off and back to normal. Once i was parked again I retried the remote start and it worked. When I looked up this issue it sounded like symptoms of recall z48 which was repaired June 29, 2022 by my dealer. Tomorrow I will see if it happens again and if it will start and shift without brake pedal pressed as that is also related to recall z48. Could the repair for recall z48 have failed or was not done properly by my dealer? Just for reference my jeep only has 11,000 miles on it.

Later, while the daughter was driving at highway speeds the failure reoccurred and the vehicle would not accelerate and the braking system malfunctioned. Our 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee started to exhibit the following conditions: brake lights remained ON, ESC failure, AutoPark Failure, Cruise Control failure, vehicle started without depressing the brake pedal. I researched possible recalls and found Z48 for HCU/ABS module failures. Our vehicle was in the recalled build dates. We took it to Palace Chrysler Jeep Ram Inc. in Lake Orion, MI for repair. They "reflashed" the software, cleared the fault codes and returned the vehicle to us. In 3 key cycles, the failures returned. We took the car back to the dealership. They stated that the reflash wasn't done correctly. (blamed machine error) Reset the fault codes and in 3-5 key cycles the problem returned. Now on the third try, the dealership replaced the HCU/ABS module and charged us $1,100 for the repair. We requested reimbursement from Stellantis and have been denied 3 times. This is completely unacceptable since the Recall Z48 is for this exact problem. Also, it proves that their SW reflash doesn't fix the problem in some vehicles. We want Stellantis to reimburse us for this repair.

Hello, The Z48 recall for my vehicle has been completed by the manufacturer back on 5/1/23. They have failed to notify NHTSA that the recall has been completed so it keeps showing up as incomplete. I keep getting notices in the mail that the recall is still pending. I have been back and forth with dealer, mopar, and the manufacturer with no resolution to this issue. Please see attached invoice with proof that this recall has been completed. I was hoping this open action could be closed on your database. Thanks, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Recall Z48 service was performed 02/09/23. Fox Jeep invoice #556304. Facility mechanic confirmed issue was present prior to performing recall as the brake lights remained on for several minutes after parking, shutting off, and exiting vehicle. Recall Z48 PCM update was completed. Vehicle continues to exhibit same issue with brake lights remaining on for several minutes after vehicle is parked / shut off / occupant exits. I believe Stellantis has a known issue with the ABS module in this vehicle and needs to replace the module with a properly functioning unit instead of attempting to conceal the fault through another PCM update. Attached copy of invoice from recall performed 02/09/23 @ 70,316 miles and photo of brake lights remaining on after exiting vehicle taken last week @ approximately 76,000 miles.

I was sent a recall notice ( Z48/NHTSA 22V-426 ) and contacted the dealer to schedule. the recall is for the breaking system, and it took months to get an appointment, apparently bad breaks are not a concern" when I was finally able to get an appointment they claimed I had no recall" I described the issues to the service manager, and he said that I was experiencing the issue the recall was supposed to fix but they would not fix it as a recall, because they claim I do not have a recall despite getting more than 1 letter. the issue - the vehicle will not stop in and emergency situation. I have tried this at 25 MPH, and just slowed down, I have nearly hit other cars because I could not stop topping a blind hill. I have a long list of very scary examples. FCA says they will not add my vehicle to the recall list, so in case of a major crash or running over a child, I guess I will go public with legal backing. this complaint will also be noted that it was brought to your attention.

Outstanding recall Z-48. This recall was first identified in June 2022. The dealers cannot fix the problem because Chrysler Corp. has not provided a solution. This is affecting the operation of the vehicle and probably reducing the resale value. Five months seems to me too long a time not to have a solution. Can the government give them an ultimatum of either provide the fix in the next 30 / 60 days or provide a cash discount on trading in the vehicle.

After going through an auto car wash the brakes failed and the car rolled into a pole while pulling up to a vacuum station about 50 yards from the exit. I believe the ABS system notified the car that it was in a slide because the rear wheels continue to rotate while the front wheels are not rotating while being pulled through the car wash tracks. Therefore tricking the system into thinking it should not brake when brakes were applied.

The vehicle was purchased new in May 2019 currently has 2700 miles on the odometer. I was traveling along the highway and began hearing a loud noise that seemed to be emanating from my undercarriage. I drove to first off-ramp to inspect and discovered a part of the braking system had broken. The vehicle was no longer drivable and had to be towed to a dealership. Later, the service writer informed me that a caliper had broken and that damages would be covered under warranty. I was not provided with a cause for this failure.

We leased a new 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd on February 1, 2019. Around the beginning of April we noticed that the brake pedal had to be depressed further than when it was new to stop the vehicle. Each week it was getting worse to the point where now it goes all the way to the floor and does not stop with confidence. We have stopped driving it before it fails completely. Waiting for service appointment with the dealer.
