2002 Jeep Liberty. Consumer writes in regards to several recall notices and unsatisfactory customer services at dealership. The consumer stated he received a recall in the mail. However, the dealer claimed to have no knowledge of the recall. The consumer received another recall a month later, regarding the fuel tank, which stated the repairs were supposed to begin in July 2013.

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 45 mph, the driver swerved to avoid crashing into a dog and lost control of the vehicle. The driver then crashed into a tree. Both the driver and passenger frontal air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained injuries to the back, ankle and rib cage. The vehicle was destroyed. After the crash, the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 12V527000 (air bags: Frontal: Sensor control module). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure and current mileage was 100,000. Updated 3/20/13

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The contact was driving 30 mph when the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed the passenger side front air bag needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 90,000.....updated 04/09/12. The control module was replaced. Updated 06/05/12

I have had two (2) major accidents in my 2002 Jeep Liberty limited, both of which resulted in physical injury to myself that could have been avoided if my airbags had deployed properly. In both accidents there was no airbag deployment whatsoever.

The air bag sensor light illuminated on the dashboard for a couple of days. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and the impact sensor was replaced. An accident occurred, and the air bags did not deploy. Consumer took the vehicle to dealer for the body work. Consumer contacted Chrysler. However, Chrysler will do nothing to assist the consumer.
