Liberty

Parking brake failure while loading my boat nearly cost my son and myself our lives. Backed truck and trailer onto ramp to load boat. Noticed the truck slipping on the ramp and suddenly rolled off the ramp hitting my boat and my son had to crawl out the door and swim for safety. He is six years old. Vehicle was not running with the transmission in gear and the parking brake engaged.

Liberty 4WD

  • Manual transmission
  • 53,000 miles
While driving on any surface, my 4WD manual transmission 2003 Jeep Liberty pulls strongly to the right. It easily goes off the edge of the road, creating the need for an off road recovery. Dealer rotated the tires, but said that the wheels were aligned properly after an accident, an all wheel alignment was completed but it still pulls severely to the right. To add insult to injury, when applying the brake in the rain or on a wet surface, the tires skid and do not properly slow the vehicle down, so trying to manipulate the vehicle to not skid off the right side of the road into the ditch is difficult without being in at least partial 4WD--and that doesn't even help occasionally.

Liberty 4WD 8-cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 2,500 miles
Vehicle experienced acceleration surges. The surging occurred at random times above 25 mph. The acceleration surge also occurred with the cruise control engaged. Also the manual transmission would not shift into fourth gear at highway speeds. If a shift was missed, the transmission winded up but no power was transferred to the wheels. With the clutch engaged, the transmission could not be put into gear until the transmission winded down.
