Liberty Limited 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 28,000 miles

Just after storms with tornado came through, the Jeep started losing power. By Sunday the battery was dead. Monday the dealership took the Liberty in, replaced the battery and by Monday evening I had the Jeep back ... Tuesday morning it was dead again.

Dealership took it back in, three days later I was getting aggravated that there had been no call ... I call them. "Well Mr G, we can tell there's a current drain. As soon as we hook a new battery up, it's pulling several amps and we've not been able to find it"

LIVID by this point I asked.. "has your mechanic pulled every fuse and checked for a current draw? Because if they do pull every fuse and there's still a draw, then there's only a few things that could cause that .... otherwise if there is no current draw, put fuses in one by one until you get an unexpected current draw." "Well, I'll check with the tech that's working on it"..

An hour later i got a call back and was told they found the problem. The current draw was in the Anti Lock Braking System Module cover .... The severe rain had come into the area where the hood and windshield meet (it had been parked prior so it wasn't me out 4-wheelin' in water). The rain went downward; they found the inner seal of the cover was improperly installed so it was folded over and crimped, leaving the corner completely unprotected. Water then penetrated it and shorted the module.

And yes they found it only because I gave them troubleshooting steps to follow. It's like they were absolutely clueless for 3 days ... charged the battery one day.... the next morning it would be dead ... etc. Ever since, I've been on top of these people and 2nd guess everything they say, and research on line before just "accepting" their word.
