Hi was looking for a second car mother in law swore how good the Jeep was, well I found a 2004 Jeep Liberty 3.7L body excellent condition no rust underneath. At first listening to the engine and with 244,000 miles I thought it was needing a bad tuneup. Which I had done on a Crysler PT Cruiser with 167,000 miles they ( the mechanics) kept telling the poor little old lady ( it's true) that the timing chain had skipped a link and the sprocket had gone bad. Well she spent $125.00 spark plugs and wires and I gave her a tuneup. When I was done and started it up purred like a kitten the tears in her eyes was enough for me to see her happy. But that wasn't the problem with my so niceLiberty new plugs couldn't help what I seen after doing a compression test and taking the left side valve cover off. Cylinder #2 had 55 psi and #4 had 0.0 ( yup big fat "0") #6 had 125psi. What I found was the intake valve had come off and got scrapped by the cam so the valve either got stuck in open position, didn't here back fire or the back small oil rod went down because the push rocker could not hold itself in other than when the valve was going to the open position. Sad to say don't know when this started the the last driver probably kept driving it this way. Now to search on what to do next, valve redone $300 - $400 each side, $1300 - $1600.00 for usedengine with over 120,000 miles, anything with less miles price goes up. New engine $3000.00 - $4500.00. Only found 1 manufactor stating that they fixed te issues with the engine and gives a 5yr warrenty with a gazzion miles warr., but you can emagine the cost of that engine. Good money to be made on Jeeps error's wish I had a shop of my own 10 yrs being a mechanic haven' seen american product fail so. And they get away selling them to rthe American people to sell more defect's. Will put on youtube search "edjuman" in couple weeks. Good luck in your finding's

My Jeep ran great, lots of power, no knocks or ticks, because I always stayed on top of maintenance and paid very close attention to it. One day while running an errand, I shut it off. I came out of the store and it struggled to start. It was idling but rough almost like slightly out of time. I changed crank, map, and cam sensors per codereader. No compression in first two cylinders.
This Jeep Liberty 3.7 never gave me any hint whatsoever that there was a problem. I could have towed a train cross country or left it idling for a month the day before than instantly zero compression with no knocks, pings, ticks, or smoke or anything else. Just D o n e, I am an autobody man, a mechanic, etc... and I have never seen this before.

Okay where to begin.... i Purchased my 2004 Jeep Liberty Sport with a 2.4L 4 Cylinder Engine, 2x4, On october 13, 2006 for $12,000. About 2 months after i bought it, my timing belt and timing chains had to be replaced. Figured while i had it there i would have a tune up and new oils, fluids, tires breaks and what not. Now i worked on my 91 accord and it ran perfect untill the transmission acted up. i had my jeep for not even 90 days before i had to have a cylinder head replaced. it was.... uhhhhh "warped". so i dropped 100 for the warranty to cover it. fine. then 2 months later, im driving down I-95 and my power steering just stops working, i couldnt steer at all not even manually. it was like someone had turned off the steering column. had it towed after it nearly freakin killed me. gone for 3 weeks this time. had to fight with diamler chrysler for a rental car since i was 18 at the time. finally got it all fixed. went another 5 months then the transmission went. had it replaced. 5 more months and another 3000 dollars and it happened again. fixed it again this time under powertrain warranty. fine, works good now. happens a third time.
Then i called lemon law. found out it was previously a rental car and sold to a lady. she had the same problems with it. then OUT OF NO WHERE MY OIL LIGHT COMES ON. I TOOK IT TO A CERTIFIED JEEP DEALERSHIP, GARY BARBARA'S ON THE BLVD. (WORST PLACE EVER) ONLY TO FIND OUT THE FEDS SHUT THEM DOWN FOR 6 WEEKS FOR SELLING LEMONS. Now alls good for about a year, THEN THE BIG PROBLEM HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM BALTIMORE BACK TO PHILADELPHIA AND MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. RIGHT AFTER I HAD IT CHECKED FOR THE OIL LIGHT PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER SAID THEY "COULDNT REINACT". WELL MY SCREEN WAS CLOGGED ON THE OIL PUMP AND SIEZED MY ENGINE UP. THE ROD ATTACHED TO THE 4TH PISTON WENT SMASHING THROUGH MY OIL PAN FOULED MY CAT. AND O2 SENSORS. ALL TOTAL, SINCE 2006 I HAVE SPENT OVER 13K ON THIS POS AND I STILL OWE 5K ON IT. ITS 2010! HELLO?!?!?!? DIAMLER CHRYSLER.... I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT EVEN HAS YOUR NAME ANYWHERE REMOTLEY CLOSE TO BEING LISTED ON IT.

Just had almost 5,000 dollars in body repairs and car would not star when done, insurance company refused to fix....
I got quote to replace with rebuilt engine 5,500 dollars. THAT'S INSANE. it ran before going to body shop.
I just had throttle and oxygen sensors replaced before it went in.
