I bought my 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited new from the dealership. It is well maintained and should have significant life left in it. However, CNN ran a story early in 2015 saying that a rear end collision could cause the Jeep to explode because of the location of the gas tank and the cheap materials used. I cannot endanger my 7 month old son, my husband, other drivers or me by driving around in a potential fire bomb. On the other hand, how am I supposed to sell a vehicle that is DEADLY. Despite having cared for my vehicle so that it would live a long life, the negligence by Fiat's Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep is causing me to have to buy a new auto.
I am outraged that the company is sweeping this under the rug. My family has loved Jeep for as long as I can remember, but Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep are now names that I will associate with reckless disregard for human life and with generally poor ethics. I will NEVER own a vehicle by any one of those four names. DISGUSTING. The NHTSA needs to step up and require a fix. SHAMEFUL SHAMEFUL SHAMEFUL!

Just informed of Chrysler recall for the JEEP LIBERTY fuel tank which might explode if rear-ended. Got the recall notice and a notice stating they still didn't have the parts for it and would contact me again. Hopefully, before someone rear-ends me and we all die.

I was contacted that there is a recall and they need to install a hitch to strengthen the frame so if suv is hit in rear the plastic gas tank won't then rupture and burst into flames or explode.
So after calling dealers in 50 mile radius for last year once a month and got tired of hearing how they don't yet have the parts I contacted recall people to make arrangements. I told them my problem and did not want to drive 30-50 miles away and waste time when they didn't have parts.so they took over and promised they would make sure all was good.
So I ended up at Michiana Dodge, Jeep on McKinley ave. on a Thurs morning at 9am to drop off and told they would call when it would be done in 3-5pm range. So I had someone pick me up and drive me home some 25 miles away. then at 430pm and called to see if it was ready and after talking to 4 different people and subsequently disconnected. Got worse from there and dealt with their Mgr. of service who made the excuse of multiple people and techs and sometimes up to 60 vehicles so he was unaware, but my vehicle was ready. I got there and only 1 person left in entire dept. and he just handed me my keys and as warranty my invoice in car.
Turns out they DIDN'T have the Hitch in stock and blamed rust in rear as Vehicle body damage. After I pointed out all that was wrong was paint had fallen off and it was bare metal. They said I would have to get body shop to fix first, which they don't do and then maybe I could have it fixed and they hope that maybe they will have parts by then. (I wonder who fixes a body if the dealer doesn't do body work). So after getting second ride and another 45 minutes wasted I am furious. Oh and the part they couldn't seem to get a hold of; Reese Hitch company is made in Elkhart, IN less then 20 miles from this dealership which when I called they have plenty in stock.
So it appears dealer is doing it's best to excuse itself out of doing the work and alienating as many customers as it can. Makes not want to do business with this dealer and wonder if others are as bad which could sway me away from ever buying another Jeep if this is how they value and treat their customers. SO if something happens they can claim my body was bad, which is no true and had another body shop confirm that just the paint was peeled off and no rust or damage.
So intend to take to another dealer one more time, and mentioned to my lawyer in case anything happens; my kids can collect from lawsuit due to their negligence. We'll see if it is just one bad dealer or if this is how Chrysler execs have passed on how to deal with the problem. We'll see and would be interested to hear about others experiences.
