Since buying my 2005 Jeep Liberty new 6 years ago...I have had to replace the mechanism that keeps the windows up eight times. Out of that 8 times, Jeep has made me pay for 4 of them! obviously a defective part...shame on Jeep!

The driver side rear window failed and the window and the unlocking mechanism will not operate. When this failure occurs, the window will not raise and the door will not unlock. The replacement parts are the same as the original parts. The rear sided window and locking mechanism (regulator) has failed. The dealership told us that this is a known problem (defect) with these Jeep liberties. It is just a matter of time until they fail again. These rear windows are not used very often, so we do not know when the next failure will occur. We have one year left on the extended warranty, but if an improved part is not used for the repairs, it will fail again.

The height adjustment on the steering column unlocks and releases often with no warning. I find the lock bar dropped down and fully released. When resetting it is not firmly held in place. It is a real challenge to control a steering wheel that moves up and down.

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. While driving 30 mph, the contact discovered that the rear driver's side window would not roll down. He was also unable to unlock the door. The dealer stated that the failure was a common defect in the Jeep Liberty, and the window failure caused the door lock to fail. The dealer charged $360 for the repair. In December of 2007, the rear driver's side window failed again. In March of 2008, the rear passenger side window failed. A report was filed with the manufacturer and they recommended that the vehicle be returned to the dealer for a diagnosis. Instead, the contact took the vehicle to a garage and the mechanic stated that the motor was defective. The failure mileage was 37,000 and current mileage was 59,398. Updated 03-06-09 the dealer replaced the regulator. Updated 03/10/09.
