About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The bracket that is riveted to the seat frame/pan and bolted to the seat back fractured into two pieces. The bracket on each side of the frame failed under normal use conditions. I purchased a replacement used frame and upon did-assembly discovered the same failure. This could be a fatal condition in a crash, especially if there is a passenger in the rear seat.

The fabric of all of the seats in my Jeep stain extremely easily. Even water stains the seats beyond repair. You can imagine how difficult this is living in new orleans where it rains often. I have had the seats professionally cleaned 5+ times and I work very hard to keep them clean, but still nothing helps. They are now discolored and have a foul smell from just the water droplets alone. I have a couple friends that also have this make and model of vehicle and they all have the same problem. Something is wrong with the integrity of the seat fabric. Something should be done about this. This flaw reduces the value of my car and gives a bad reputation to the Jeep name, as well as underplays the quality that is normally assumed when purchasing a Jeep vehicle. This is not a problem that is occurring due to the misuse of the seat or lack of trying to preserve their integrity. I have had this problem since the day I purchased the vehicle brand new. It was only after seeing many other owners filing with the same complaint, I decided to speak up so that something can be done to rectify the situation. If there is anything I can do to fix my seats, I open to suggestions because every cleaning product/ service I have tried has failed. My seats (once beige/grey colored) are now brown in patches, slightly misformed on the seats, and retaining an unpleasant odor (im assuming from the fabric soaking up and retaining any fluid that touches it). Also, not just fluids stain the seats (while that is my main concern). Anything that can leave a mark on a seat, does so and it is permanent no matter what I try. This includes, but is not limited to, foods, pencil marks, dye from clothes (yes it somehow gets rubbed onto the seats while sitting and the fabric retains it, which I have never seen happen in any other car before), deodorant and/or car sprays for improving scent.

Driver seat recliner handle broke off while making the needed adjustment, the operation of the recliner on both driver and passenger is extremely hard. With or with out a load applied to the back. Drive seat is now restricted in movement at a 25 degree angle. Passenger recliner will only work if you are out side the Jeep and assist from the back seat to move the seat back forwards and backwards.
