Left rear window fell with a loud bang. Car has never been off road and garaged. Mileage around 30,000. Dealer fixed it for a charge of $550. I have been on line and find that this is a continuing problem because of defect in the window controller. This is a defect and it is wrong for customers to be saddled financially with this issue. While driving along the interstate at 65mph the passenger side back window made a pop sound and fell into the door, making a loud bang. Amazed the window did not break. This is the second time a window has failed in this vehicle. The driver's side was replaced two years ago and the passenger side front sounds like it is about to go at any time. It is making whining noises when activated and moves very slow.

2006 Jeep Liberty. Consumer writes in regards to defective window parts installed in vehicle. The consumer stated the window has been replaced five times within the last four months, in addition, to the previous 11-12 replacements in 2007. The consumer stated using the same defective parts was not going to fix the problem. Also, when the windows were down, there was a thumping and wind noise, that was unbearable. The consumer stated things were stolen out of his vehicle, because the windows would not go up. Also there was a noise coming from the rear of the vehicle and the doors would vibrate when the windows were down.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty 4X4. The contact stated that vehicle would surge forward when shifting into any gear and the vehicle would also loose power abnormally. The egr (exhaust gas recirculation) valve melted, causing a burning smell to release into the vehicle. In addition, the gear shifter would shift out of park independently, causing the vehicle to roll away. The contact also stated that the rear passenger side door handle became defective, making it impossible to open the vehicle door from the interior of the vehicle and the ABS, esp and traction control lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failures. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 101,000.....updated 06/18/12 the consumer also stated there was a problem with the control arm on the vehicle and because of the widespread problem a recall as issued. The consumer was then informed the recall was old, and her VIN was not included. The vehicle would loose power suddenly after driving forward, the windows would make a dragging noise, even though the dealer replace, the wheel speed sensor was replaced, the interior door handle on the passenger side was inoperative. The rear automatic windows on my 2006 Jeep Liberty fall down into the door panel and cannot be raised with the regulator. This happened to me while I was driving and forced me to drive with an open window during a storm heavy rain, the rear interior of my car was damaged. I have had the rear windows repaired for the same problem multiple times, and they continue to break, at times that are unsafe. It also prevents me from properly securing the vehicle from theft until I can get to the dealer and they can "repair" it with the same defective part over and over again. You have so many complaints from many consumers about the same proble, but no recall. What are you waiting for a death?

Vehicle parked in driveway and the rear door windows just fall in to the inner door panel, must remove panel to retrieve window and brace up. If children were in the back seat I would hate to see what would happen. I don't understand with as many complaints I have read on line about this nothing nothing nothing has been done about this. I E recall make Jeep repair the problem, instead of the customer having to pay $750.oo each time it happens, all over a $.50 piece. Taking vehicle to mechanic to have the window regulators replaced.

The rear driver side window suddenly, and unexpectedly, fell open from the fully closed position with a loud crashing sound. One open it was unable to be re-closed. Failure in this manner was very startling and can be seen seen as an unnecessary distraction which, in my opinion, constitutes a safety hazard. Upon investigation I found that the part of the mechanism that directly supports the window is made of plastic and further is of insufficient dimension to support the weight of the glass through repeated cycles. The dealer offered me the same inadequate part as replacement which is destined for the same failure.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the regulators needed to be replaced. There were no warnings prior to the failure. The current mileage was 9,699 and failure mileage was 50. Updated 10/14/08 the consumer stated the regulators were replaced twice. Updated 10/23/08.

In July of last year (2006), I leased a 2006 Jeep Liberty. Approximately 2 months later, one of my windows slipped down. I took it in for repairs. Since then (16 months later), I have been in the repair shop for this exact reason 5 more times. My parents have the exact same vehicle, same year, and they are on their 6th window as well. After talking to the repair shops we both go to, we have found that this is a common occurrence. Jeep has been contacted by us and by others. They are well aware of the problem. I believe that this is a safety issue on so many levels because the vehicle is vulnerable if the window is not up.
