Our Jeep Liberty just had the 2nd window regulator break. My husband was on his way home from a business meeting and had to drive 7 hours in the rain with the driver's window down and unable to raise it. I called the dealer, scheduled the repair, put it in the shop. They replaced the regulator, but the new glass hadn't been delivered. They put the old glass in so that we could have a window, but we can't lower it. Five days later they still have not gotten the new glass. My husband can't drive the vehicle because he can't lower the window to pay tolls on the highway. And then I guess we will just wait for the other two windows to break and hope it's not at a very inconvenient time. Oh, and we had to pay for the first window repair even though the vehicle was under warranty. So I'm sure we have to pay for this one, just haven't gotten the bill since they haven't completed the repair yet!

We noticed our left rear window was down. Apparently the regulator broke. That's what happens when cheap plastic is used instead of metal. We're going to try an aftermarket fix. Hopefully it will work.

So I had my both of my rear windows with new regulators fixed last year. 8 weeks waiting for parts that were all ready at the dealership. No customer service. So here I am again having to replace the driver side window now at a cost of $500.00. I dreamed of having a Jeep for years. Finally got one and now I am looking to trade it in. Nothing but issues with service and replacing faulty items. I think I will trade her in.

First instance occurred on 10/17/2010 (rear passenger side), took it to the dealership I bought it from on 10/20/2010 (Honda) and they replaced the regulator and motor for $380.00. I bought the extended warranty, so I paid $50 deductible, and an additional $40 for extra labor, took about 4 hours to complete. Called Jeep Dealership, which led to the Chrysler Customer Hotline, the rep gave me a reference number and told me they were familiar with the prob and that it WILL happen again, and they would provide assistance when it does. He didn't specify on the type of assistance, and confirmed that no recall was being considered at the moment. Its my first Jeep, and I'm am sorely disappointed, I've only had it for 3 months.

I purchased my Liberty BRAND NEW in September 2006. Shortly after that in December I had to have the Left rear window regulator replaced after I came out of class in the middle of Tampa, FL to find my widow down. I orginally thought someone had broken into my car. January 2008 the Right rear regulartor broke and had to be replaced. Again in July 2008 the Left rear broke (2nd time). Then again August 2009 for the third time the LEFT rear broke again. All of those times I went to the dealership where i had originally purchased and they fixed without an issue. Now for the 4th time.. yup the 4th time the Left rear regulator broke again.
I called the local dealership here in Louisiana, and the service manager told me that I would have to pay a $100 deductable to get this fixed. He then went on to tell me "You are lucky it has only been your rear windows, this happens to all the Jeep liberty's from 2002 to present. Jeep is aware of the problem, but they are not going to do anything about it, and if you want it fixed it will cost you $100. " He then went on to say "If you don't like that, well not my problem, just call Chrysler and lodge a complaint."
I called Chrysler yesterday and logded a complaint about this OBVIOUS DEFECT with thier product. I was told that I would get a call back within 24-48 hours to discuss with a case manager. We got the call today, and I was told that they would reimburse me the $100, but I would have to pay it up front, and it could take as long as....20 weeks to get reimbursed. Well... that is NOT going to fly. I then asked them why they can't just pay the dealership directly.
I am a Home Health Nurse and I am on the road 90% of my work time. During that time, I often have to contact families or doctors while I am driving to discuss the patient. Ever tried to have a conversation with a window that has fallen into the door... not fun. The case manager for Chrysler told me we would get a call back in about an hour to let me know if they had been able to come up with another soultion for me to get this fixed. Well.... it is now 8 hours later and NO phone call.. and go figure tomorrow is Saturday.
I have posted this complaint to my Facebook page for all the world to see. We have also decided to contact the local newspaper and news station to tell them this story. I will reference this website and the multiple complaints for this same issue.

This is the third window on my vehicle that I've had to have permanently closed. Sick of this problem.

I've had 6 regulators break since I've owned this vehicle. 4 were fixed under warranty. I called Jeep at 1-800-9921997 planning on ripping them a new one, but instead they transferred me to a claims person who took my information and promised someone would call me back within 48 hours (yeah, right!). So I waited, and the next day someone from Jeep called and took a report on the last 2 regulator failures. I was told they would submit a claim to Jeep for me and they would call me back within 7 days. 3 days later they called - Jeep was going to issue me a check for $627.00 for the two repaired regulators. 30 days late I received the check, deposited it, and it did not bounce!
I suggest you give it a try. It worked great for me.

Window regulator failed on my daughter's 2006 Jeep Liberty. Window fell, without warning, and couldn't be raised. Dealer charged $442.73 to install a "new" regulator. Dealer stated Chrysler began using the "new" regulators in 2009 and I had to purchase a new window glass as the "old" regulator was not guaranteed to work with the old window glass. After reading thousands of complaints, about this exact problem, online, and seeing an online peition to Chrysler, to recall vehicles for faulty window regulators, I contacted Chrysler customer service. I mentioned that a reporter for MSNBC.com stated, in one of his articles, that he had the same window regulator problem on his Jeep Liberty and that Chrysler covered his out-of-warranty costs for repairs. Chrysler cusomter service promised to fully refund my repair costs, even though my vehicle was out of warranty.
Chrysler obviously knows their window regulators are a widespread problem or they would not be using a "new" regulator, which requires a new window glass. This problem is a safety hazard. You have no warning that the window will fall, which can cause a dangerous driving hazard, as well as the danger of an object entering the car through the open window. The car is also an easy theft target and locking your doors, for safety, is pointless since you have a window stuck in the open position.
There is a class action suit against Volks Wagen for faulty window regulators. I have filed a complaint with National Highway Traffic Safety. There needs to be a recall on these Chrysler vehicles. I have contacted news media in hopes someone will make this problem public. Former CEO of Chrysler, in a letter to employees, said Chrysler had the lowest number of recalls of automobile manufacturers in 2009. If they ignore these problems, I am not surprised their recalls are low. The rep at their extended warranty department told me it "wasn't the first time" he'd heard customer complaints about Chrysler Jeep faulty window regulators.
Update from Sep 29, 2010: Twenty-five days after the first window regulator broke on this 2006 Jeep Liberty, a second window regulator failed. It was like getting into see the president of the U.S., but I got through to the customer service rep who authorized reimbursement for the first regulator/window replacement and she agreed to notify the dealership, where the repair would take place, that she was sending me in and that they would receive reimbursement for the work directly from Chrysler. I did not have to pay anything. I asked if Chrysler would pay to have the other two window regulators checked and she said their policy is to wait until they break. Of course. They are losing customers by not admitting the problem and recalling the vehicles for repairs instead of making everyone go through this routine.

I purchased my Vehicle brand new in October 2006. Since owning my vehicle I had the the window regulator break/fall down 8 times!!! This is a serious issue and I think they should recall the regulators. I have not paid a dime for this because it was all still under warranty, but back in April when I went to get it fixed I was told that it was out of warranty and I would have to pay....I raised all Hell and they fixed it free of charge. Now as of today guess what The regulator is broken again smdh!!! I call Chrysler18009921997 and I am assigned a case number. They better fix it for free... I am so done with JEEP''s

Common enough occurrence that Jeep should issue a recall or at least a "fix it free" notice. But like most things automotive, it will require a death or such in order to get the MFR to do anything. The design of the regulator is ok... the CHEAP PLASTIC PART MADE IN CHINA is NOT ok.

I am beginning to think my 2006 Jeep Liberty is cursed. One of the four window regulators died on me AGAIN today...and I noticed it (the left rear) when I was commuting to my job this afternoon (August 27th, 2010). Let's see...what number is this? SEVEN! Yes, SEVEN! I've had seven window regulators die on me since purchasing the Liberty in December of 2006.
I "reluctantly" think it is time to trade in my 2006 Jeep Liberty. It has 80,000 miles and I did purchase the extended warranty when I purchased the Jeep in December of 2006. I'm the original owner...and the extended warranty is good until 100,000 miles. However, I've driven at least an average of 21,500 miles each year since I've had it. This time next year the extended warranty will be void if I drive it like I do "distance-wise"...and I'll be left with something bad if I have to deal with any more problems with the Liberty...and by the way it seems, I'll be dealing with some if I do keep it. A 2010 Chevy Camaro does look very tempting now...maybe a Toyota FJ Cruiser...or the "REAL" Jeep...the Wrangler!
I truly think there must be a defect for the window regulators for the Jeep Liberty. I was told there was, but they should've learned by now?? I could handle two times. I could handle four or five times...but SEVEN? I was upset at the first regulator (the left rear) dying on me since it occurred TWO WEEKS AFTER I purchased my Liberty. That was in January of 2007. I thought I was off the hook until January of 2008 when the regulator (in the same window) died while I was driving to Key West. Then, Murphy's Law took effect...and window regulators in all the other windows died in April of 2008 (right rear), June of 2008 (right front), and August of 2008 (left front). I really thought I was off the hook then...until August of 2009...when the right rear one died. I told myself then if I had to deal with this again, I would trade the Liberty in...and I am very tempted to do it now (August of 2010). This almost is irritating, but things could be worse...but the air compressor did die on me a couple of months ago. The extended warranty covered that fortunately.
I do feel as though I'll be saying good-bye to an old (but irritating) friend if I were to trade in the Liberty. It's been driven to Florida twice...and all throughout North Carolina. It's been to the beaches MANY times...and it's been used to haul many things too. However, if it's going to continue being a pain, then it needs to depart from me.
PS - Can you say nerve-grinding???
Update from Oct 14, 2010: Bonkers!!! Another window regulator bit the dust on October 12th!!! This now makes EIGHT..and it's the right rear. Remember the last time was August 27th...almost two months ago...and it was the left rear then. Still wondering about this...especially since this occurred once in 2007, four times in 2008, once in 2009, and now twice in 2010. This CURSE is very frustrating as usual...and a security issue too because once the window is down, someone could grab what's inside. Not good at all. It's time for me to trade the LEMON in for something else....especially since it now has 83,000 miles and it will get less value for a trade the longer I keep it. Fortunately, I do have an extended warranty, but it will be void at 100,000 miles.

Just heard something pop and the front passenger window fell down and couldn't bring it up. This happened on Sat. and had to drive with it down until Monday. At least it wasn't raining. Just found out it is going to be over $500 to fix. We had the back passenger window replaced last year for the same problem. That one cost $360. Now after reading this complaint forum we may end up replacing all of our windows plus maybe some more than once.
Needless to say I am very upset with Jeep. I wish I had researched this before I bought this Jeep. This is our 3rd Jeep and we will not be buying another one. All of this because they refuse to fix a cheap part. I am going to call the Jeep service # and I am going to sign the online recall petition.
Update from Sep 20, 2010: I read on this forum where people had called Chrysler customer service and had received help. So I decided to try it. I was given a case # and was told someone would get it touch with me. The very next day someone called me. I was told to send both bills and explain what happened. I did that and I just received a check for both windows. In all it took about 2 weeks. I am very pleased with their response. I don't like the idea that we might have to replace the others but at least hopefully they will pay for them if it does happen again. I hope they get this problem fixed for good on future Jeeps so if we would want to buy another one.
Update from Nov 4, 2010: Just had another one go bad. This was the back driver's side this time. This makes for # 3. I had it fixed and will be calling Jeep to try and get reimbursed. Hope they are as nice and quick as the were the last time.

This is the second window regulator to malfunction. Even though it is covered by the extended warrenty, we still must pay $100 deductable. Our warrenty will end next year and the problem will continue if Jeep does not recall the vehicles with the problems and relace them with an upgraded part. I have found several after-rmarket parts that I can purchase for as low as $36 with a 1 year warrenty. I also found one after market that has a lifetime warrenty, but the price reflected the warrenty!

I have only had my Jeep Liberty for a little over 2 years. The first window to fall was the drivers side rear. For around $200, I had it fixed. A year later the passenger side window fell. It was around $300 because I was told that the glass had to be repaired because it was too heavy. The weight of the glass was causing the regulators to break. The guy that fixed it told me that he would have to replace the first window. Sure enough, the window on the driver side fell again. I had it replaced for a little over $200. He did not replace the glass this time so I asked him why. He said that he was told my Jeep that the glass only had to be replaced on the front windows. Why did he charge me to replace the glass the second time?
I called the 800 # that I found on this website. They are assigning a case # to me. I was told that a representative would be getting in touch with me. I wish I would have seen this website before I paid to have the 3rd window replaced, but you know it is hard to drive around in the rain with the window down. I hope that the representative tries to help because if not I will never buy another Jeep or Chrysler vehicle again.

window regulator (drivers side back) broke when I first bought my Jeep Liberty, it was covered under 30 day warranty. Now 2 years later, the passenger side back regulator has broke. Driivers window (regulator) is having problems going up correctly, and the front passenger side is lugging. I love my jeep but this crap should be recalled.

Second time this has happened. First time, a year and a half ago driver's side window fell into the door; this time, rear passenger window slowly started sinking into the door. This to my first and last Jeep product. Guy at the Jeep service desk tells me, "Nope, not covered under anything" and "This is my first week here, and I've seen a couple of others, already!" This also happened at a time when I have been super busy at work, so taking a day off to get it to the dealer is a major pain in the rear end. A friend of mine at work is also having the same problem. The right rear window looks great, covered in duct tape, which gets gummy and moist and loses its sticky in the hot summer sun. So, for the first time, I'm taking this to Chrysler and whatever government agency will listen. I'll keep you posted!
Update from Sep 1, 2010: Good friend of mine with 2006 Liberty has now had two more windows fail. Both on freeway trips where he was greatly worried and inconvenienced. I'm now seriously worried about the re-sale value of this car, either on the market or as a trade in. Ironic if a Jeep dealership will tell you, "That car isn't worth anything . . . the windows fall down!"

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty that I bought new. I had to replace three out of the four window regulators and windows. I replaced the back passenger window twice now. Chrysler needs to recall this problem but won't. They know the part is defective and won't do anything about it. The only thing they will do is charge the customer any where from 100.00 dollars to almost 600.00 per window. They are losing customers because of this and I am one of them. I have bought two new cars from them and this Jeep Liberty will be my last. I am also going to file a suit against them because of this problem. It is a safety issue and I guess someone will have to get hurt before they do anything to help their customers..

I bought a brand new 2006 Jeep Liberty in July 2006. I've had a total of 4 window regulators break. First 2 were covered under warranty. Definite safety issue. The 2nd window that broke happened in the winter driving to work. Does anyone know the temperature in upstate NY in winter! Last July, I had the 3rd window (back) drop and not able to put it up. I was on a weekend get-away with some girl friends. I rarely use the back window, but did this time and had an awful time getting it fixed and was outraged when I found it cost me $469 to repair it. The 4th window broke last week. Of course, the dealership where I purchased the Jeep no longer has Chrysler/Jeep products (smart) so I had to go to another dealership. They had no parts in stock and I have to drive my 'ghetto ride' with plastic and tape covering the back window for 2 weeks before they can repair it.
I have very low miles (approx 12k/year). I'm ready to sell this and tell all my friends/family to never buy a Chrysler/Jeep.
We called the complaint line and did get a case #. We rec'd a call 24 hours later telling us that we would have to pay a $100 co-pay to repair this window. REALLY. Really, this is what Chysler calls customer service. My husband calmly asked this person if he could talk to the supervisor and this person replied with a sarcastic, 'I don't have a supervisor'. He then realized, this wasn't Chrysler returning his call, it's some company that Chrysler hired to do their dirty work (I'm guessing overseas).
It's been 90+ degrees here for the past week with no relief in site. The plastic covering my window just makes it all that much warmer and the air conditioner can't keep up.
Chrysler customer service stinks. I really miss SATURN and can't believe they no longer exist. They could have given Chrysler some lessons in how to treat a customer. Maybe all the bailout money this company freely accepted should have been designated to issues like this.

All windows were up when car was parked in parking lot. When went to get back in the car, back seat (passenger side) window was 3/4 down. Window wouldn't go up or down. Had to get repaired for $389.46 before rain coming in next day and the fact that anyone was able to enter the car by reaching in and unlocking doors (also everything in the car was fair game for the taking...had I known that my window would simply fall down, I wouldn't have kept any personal items in my car!!!). This happened with absolutely NO warning and the back windows are NEVER rolled up or down with any regularity. Hefty price to pay for a window that you don't use!!
