Liberty 3.7L V6

I always wanted a Jeep and was so happy to buy my brand new Liberty in 2006, until 2 weeks later when I experienced what has been my personal hell since....the windows... Why can't Chrysler grow some balls and admit they have a faulty part that should have been recalled 4 years ago!! I just replaced my 9th window! All 4 have been replaced with the "new and improved" part and glass, which cost me 100.00 each time under the "special" warranty price.... It is a security issue each time these windows fail, I never know where I'm gonna be so I now carry a roll of painters tape and a stick to wedge inside the window to prop it back up... how ghetto can you get??? I will never buy another Chrysler product!!

my daughter & son in law have a jeep liberty. Have had window regulator out on all 4 windows! Replaced window and regulator once, now that one is out again. All of them are out now!! They have a 2 year old, and it's very difficult to have this window "taped" up w/a baby in the car. They cannot financially afford to keep replacing windows and regulators! It's totally ignorant that Jeep doesn't recall these. Obviously, there is an issue w/them as their is hundreds of complaints on here about the same exact thing. Why won't jeep do something about it? Who the hell can afford to keep replacing both the window and regualtor over and over again. They work hard, trying to raise a baby and can't do this. Any suggestions?

According to the dealer i bought the car from it would have cost me more than 600 bucks to replace the entire rear passenger window apparatus, completely uneccesary considering only a small plastic piece broke. thankfully i called around and found another jeep dealer that can replace the faulty regulator on chrysler's dime...something which should happen considering chrysler is using poor quality plastics...only time will tell how long until my other windows break due to poor design and quality of chrysler-jeep.

Some senior executive at Jeep division of Daimler Chrysler / Fiat needs to be fired for allowing this window regulator design problem to get so many customers upset about Jeep lack of quality. This is the third time in 18 months that I have had a window regulator fail in this vehicle. Every 5000 miles? The one that failed the second time in 18 months was an OEM replacement part. The other one was repaired with a metal part from Steiger Performance parts. I'll be doing this so both rear windows have the part with the design flaw corrected. I find it hard to believe that this problem is not happening multiple times with every 2005/06 Jeep liberty. Jeep knows about the problem and refuses to deal with it.

Redesigned due to safety concerns...but the owner gets to pay for the new window required!!!???

Update from Jun 10, 2010: Wow! I am very pleased with Chrysler. My dealer got me in and wired the window shut while I contacted Chrysler. They said that they make decisions on a case-by-case basis, but as I am the original owner and my Renegade has low mileage, they paid for my regulator and window replacement. It took less than one week, too! I don't know what will happen if the other three break, but for now I am satisfied.

I'm truly glad I'm used to the wind in my face from riding my Harley because this regulator and window crap is a real pain in the ass. First time it happened the service rep knew exactly what was wrong and the warranty had expired by two days...no luck getting them to pay. Now that it has happened again to the rear door I'm more than a bit pissed off...mostly because I hardly drive the vehicle and never use the window...this one time I opened it for my dog to get some air and thunk went the window. After a few colorful metaphors I took it to a local mechanic, not the Chrysler dealership like I had done before, and he pointed out that this was a manufacturer's defect and that the re-engineering requires the replacement of a perfectly good piece of glass ($100+CDN)..WTF is with that? My gripe, especially after hauling Chrysler auto parts for many years (probably should have known better) is that they should be eating the cost of this defect repair instead of saying that I'm SOL. I do like my Jeep Liberty as it is the perfect fit for my work/lifestyle, but reading some comments here will make me think twice about buying the vehicle at the end of my lease next month. I'm going to give the 800 number a go and give a ring to the local media and see what happens...till then

cheers

ALL the windows in my Liberty have always been a little slow, but the driver's side has been the worst. I took it to the dealership when the driver's window stopped working and they said they had fixed the problem, it was still under warrenty then...that was almost two years ago. Today...IN THE RAIN...the same window fell inside the door after making a horrible grinding sound. Called the dealership, and they said it would cost almost $500.00 to fix.

I then hopped online to see if anyone else has had similar issues...surprise surprise...EVERYONE seems to be having these issues. I called the Chysler Complaint line as recommended by multiple posters in this sight and was given a case number. They said a case manager will call by tomorrow. I'll post an update.

There are now 3 windows on my Liberty that does not work they are wedged up to keep them from falloing down in the door. I am on a fixed income with social security and can barely make my payments, I dont have the money to repair the windows. The junk yard even said the regulators were $75.00 each apparently they know the manufacturer doesn't give a care either.

Lemon - I took Chyrsler to Arbitation on this problem in 3/2008, it was founded to be valid and fell under the lemon law rule. At that point I had had 8 window motors put in, chrysler admitted to the defect but guarenteed that the new part had corrected the problem. So the Arbitation board closed case and had me go home. 2yrs to the day of that aribtation hearing the 2 back window motors broke AGAIN ON SAME DAY isn't that ironic. and now they say it is to late.

For the price you pay for these vehicles now days you would think they would last like the older vehicle. I drive over 50 miles each way everyday for work so it has higher milage but they are all highway miles and I am the only driver. I take care of this vehicle cause I can't afford to buy another. I bought a jeep product cause they have always had a good rep. for longivity and sold vehicles. Well after this once I get enough saved I am getting out of it and will never recomend a Jeep Chrysler product to anyone.

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty and I also have had my windows regulator fixed 6 times. Twice I had to pay out of my own pocket. I currently have a complaint to Chrysler but have been unsuccessful in speaking with someone. They told me that they couldnt recall this since it's not considered a safety issue....to whom them? I do consider that a safety issue cause at any time someone could pull down your window and who knows as crazy as some people are, they could hide in your jeep and them what? Would jeep care then when you're dead? Would a petition be worth trying?

We had our front driver's side window break last Saturday. We knew it was the regulator because we had the same issue in 2008 with a rear window. Thank god I found this website before we did anything! I saw where people had posted to call the 800# for Chrysler and that is what I did. They assigned me a case number and someone from that dept called me with in 24 hours. I explained the situation, how this had happened before and we paid $200 to have repaired at that time. I mentioned how I have seen so many complaints on the web about this part. We took to the dealer and of course they diagnosed as the regulator. The front driver window was completely off track and the front passenger was starting to tilt in the track so we knew it was a matter of time for that one. The repairs were $1k because now they have to buy a kit and a new window for each one. The thing I am thrilled about: CHRYSLER/JEEP IS PAYING FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR! NO DEDUCTIBLE! Keep in mind, we have no extended warranty and have 62k miles on this jeep. IT PAYS TO CALL IN! We still may have to pay the $60 diagnostic fee (I am working on that) but compared to what we would have had to pay this is GREAT! Thank you Jeep for working so well with us!

This is the third regulator that has gone out on this vechicle. The first 2 were covered under warranty. This was the rear left window. I am the only one ususally in this vechicle. Window has hardly been used. Not only did I have to replace regulator , but had to put in a new window at the cost of $425. What a rip. I think they should be recalled. My car only has 43234 miles on it.

Okay, this is the second one in two days. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the weather where I live being really cold then getting rather warm rapidly. wtf? this costs either $399.00 to fix or an afternoon installing a new one. Just putting in a point here. I didn't want to go round and round with dealers or Chrysler. Dealerships just want to get you in and out and get paid. So, I ordered an $89 aftermarket part from Steiger Performance after receiving a quote of $475 from the dealer. This part is metal not cheap plastic and should last. It took a little while (3 hrs) as I was being cautious but I'm satisfied it's done the best way possible.

Had three window regulators fixed under warranty. NOW fourth window breaks and they want to replace the regulator AND the window for 450.00. It's very obviously a factory defect and a recall, but Chrysler's saying no it's not covered. Clearly a defect.

The window regulator just broke today on my driver's side front window. This is now the 5th window regulator that I have had replaced (one twice!). Chrysler is aware of this defect in the window regulators and has done NOTHING to remedy the problem with Jeep Liberty owners. I have had to open yet another case # with Chrysler and am waiting for their response as to how much they will cover on this repair. The first 3 regulators were replaced under warranty. The one I replaced in Jan 2010, I had to pay $150 for (split the balance with the dealer as they have repaired every one of my windows and are aware of the problem). I have learned that Chrysler does NOT stand behind their product and will never own another Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicle.

Got the car from my sister about 2 years ago, she already had one of the windows replaced and warned me about problems with the drivers side front window which acts up in warmer weather. A few days ago my mother was in town and while we were driving the rear passenger side window completely failed. Luckily we were able to catch it before it fell into the door - however now the window is duct-taped in the up position.

I have to say I actually really do love the car, but from what i hear this window regulator situation is a real problem. I am definitely down to urge Chrysler to issue a recall on the Liberty, it's not really that hard of a fix - but it's really annoying to us drivers! Not to mention a bit scary when the window suddenly goes "clunk!".

Currently have a case number with Chrysler on getting it fixed, they'd better pay for it!
