While under warranty, the window regulator was fixed three times. Twice on the back passenger window and once on the front passenger window. The window makes a faint noise and plops down into itself and won't go back up.
Just recently I went over 36,000 miles and my driver side window did this. As I am out of warranty I will have to pay to have it fixed myself. As this is the FOURTH time this has happened, I feel that this should be a recall item.
I shrudder to think of this suddenly happening while driving down a freeway and startles the driver into swerving.

I have had the window regulator break three times in my 2006 Jeep Liberty. The first time it was covered on the standard warranty. The next two times, it was after the standard warranty was finished. They told me that it is not covered under the extended warranty. I had to pay $234.00 each time. I don't understand why if it breaks this much, it has not been recalled yet. This is a royal pain and the dealership is not nice about it. I can't afford to keep doing this.

One of my rear windows was stuck in the up position, the other just fell into the door. I was out of warranty, so the repair costs were over $750. The repairman said he made these Jeep window regulator repairs at least twice daily. They did not install the same type of regulator, so when you have the new type replaced you will have to replace the glass also. Very costly!! Jeep should be responsible for the cost of these repairs, because this should have been a recall issue long ago.

This is the 3rd time I have had this same problem with this car. I have not had it fixed yet this last time as CarMax Service Dept. is not opened on the weekends.
However, when I took it somewhere yesterday just to try to get the window up - I was told that Chrysler should have a recall on these as it keeps happening over and over again. I hope I don't have to turn this over to the BBB or Clark Howard or whoever. I am not happy with this problem and if they don't fix them all (at their expense) I will make sure Chrysler will wish they had never heard of me.

My warranty would have covered this if I had under 36,000 miles when it broke. I was at 38,000 miles. I really wish Chrysler would do a recall. When I called both the dealership and an independent repair shop both told me this was a very common problem.

bought the liberty with 15000 miles on it, and 2 weeks later the pass. rear regulator snapped, no big deal i thought, sh*t happens, got it fixed, then around 20000 the driver front glass fell down, same prob. now i was wondering, but still under warranty so i just got it fixed, and believe it or not, at 38000 off of warranty, the pass. front just fell down, this thing is getting traded or burnt real soon!!!!! just kidding about the burnt part if my insurance lady is reading

Chrysler must be aware of this poorly designed window regulator! Why won't they redesign this component and have a general recall? Otherwise, I have enjoyed my CRD Liberty.

This is the 5th time one of the window regulators has failed. One has never failed so two of them have failed twice.

bought jeep about a year and a half ago ,march of 2008 passenger side window regulator went out , dealer replaced free, second one in sept 2008 regulator bad dealer fixed for my 100.00 deductible. feb. 2009 both rear windows regulators went bad and we very seldom use back windows, took to dealer and complained and their response was pay 100.00 deductible and they would replace both. Bottom line there is too many complaints about this problem and it should be a recall. There is also a problem with the alignment going out on liberty's also. I will never buy another Chrysler in my lifetime.

Why can't Chrysler recall this? So many complaints and nothing!! This is no cheap fix being that it's a dealer part only.

Wow.. I wish I had read this when I bought my 2006 Liberty back in July. It was still under warranty until 2k miles ago. Go figure the regulator went out now. I was looking to have it fixed myself and noticed that the price for regulators in Jeeps made between 2003 and March 2006 are TWICE what one is after March of 2006. Sounds a bit fishy to me. I'm not done yet, I have calls and emails in to Chrysler about this one.. the least they can do is recall. It looks like I am just at the beginning stage... I love my Jeep, but I think I am going to trade this puppy in.

I just had an 8th window regulator break...
I wish they would recall these and install a new design.

FRUSTRATED THAT JEEP WILL NOT make this window regulator a recall. It has happened to all of my windows.

I've owned my jeep liberty for 2 years. I love it, except when the window regulators go out. It has happened to my jeep 5 different TIMES. I rarely even use the windows & keep the jeep as clean as can be. It is a huge inconvenience, plus expensive for something that really should be recalled. We end up duck taping the window up until we can get it fixed. I'm soooooooooo frustrated they haven't made this a recall!!!!

Pretty much what happened to others. Some day the window worked properly, next day, with the minimum effort, it breaks. No replacement part is available in Venezuela, as I am supposedly the first stupid buyer that has this same issue in my country. There might be over 100K Jeeps like mine in all the territory. Did they shipped all the good ones out of US, and I got the only defective one? Hard to believe, I must say. Now I am trying to sell the car and need to either eBay the item and have it replaced by myself, or find a way to repair the current issue without wasting a lot of money. Does anyone know how to rebuild this crappy regulator piece? Thanks for the hints, anyway!

This is the 7th, SEVENTH, window motor regular I have had to fix. Thats right!!! I have 4 windows, and 3 of my windows have failed twice.
The first time each of the 4 windows failed - about 2 months apart - two of them were replaced with the same crappy part the car came with, and two were replaced with the "new revision" of window motor. The two that were first fixed with the crappy part then broke again. Now all four have the "new" window motor regulator, and now one of the new ones has failed. So I'm extremely confident I will be in to Jeep a few more times to replace the other three with the "new" part, when they break.
I have 22K miles on my car. I'm getting rid of it before the warranty goes away. I refuse to pay for any of these repairs. But the inconvenience alone is costing me! Not to mention that I don't feel comfortable leaving my car at the airport, or in a downtown area for a long time. When these fail, the window just drops and leaves your car open to anyone or anything (rain!!).
Does this site really want me to enter this complaint SEVEN individual times???

The window regulator problem is a result of a faulty design in the plastic clips that hold a threaded cable. The cable pulls the window up and down, but the plastic clips that connect the window and window track together also connects the threaded cable as well. The plastic gives out and BOOM you window falls open. The entire unit is one piece and is a bit expensive from what I hear. I just worked on my girlfriends Liberty today, and my friend Jay's Cherokee had the same problem last week. An auto window company replaced his for $300, but I'm fixing it myself. The sad part is, like everyone is saying the window KEEPS doing it. It's a bad problem that Chrysler refuses to fix... Which also reduces my already low faith in Chrysler's engineering. Every Jeep I've ever owned has had multiple problems. I guess Chrysler's just trying to gain revenue by making us come in and fix our windows ALL THE TIME! Here Drivers side rear window had this problem when it was still under warranty, and right after it ended the Passenger side rear window fell.... We won't be buying out this lease... We will return it back and make it THEIR problem...

Left for work early in the morning during a freezing rain storm. I kept hearing road noise and cars passing louder than usual. Looked at my rear driver side door and the window was down about an inch. It would not roll up, so I took it to the dealer. They replaced the window regulator. About three months later, my front drivers side window started rolling up crooked, and eventually I heard a "pop" and it would not roll up anymore. Took it in and had another regulator replaced. Now, when I roll the front window up, it does so very slowly. I am expecting to have to replace it again soon. This time, out of warranty! I overheard a tech at my dealership telling another customer that it costs $450 to replace one of those!!!

I see all over the internet that this problem is very common and that Chrysler will not do anything in terms of a recall. Frustrating

I just recently purchased the 2006 Jeep Liberty and was driving and the rear left side window just came down. I took it to the dealer and they advised that Jeep had redesigned the regulator and in order to repair, the entire regulator, including the glass, had to be replaced. From reading the reviews, this is apparently a very common problem. The estimated cost was $447. I opted to bring it home and look for another vehicle or possibly make a fix myself. With so many failures and the fact that Jeep had to redesign (apparently with little success of fixing the problem), I would think this would surely have been subject to a recall. Obvious poor design and very poor 'stand behind your product'. I've tried to buy US but I've had much better success with Toyota and Nissan vehicles than GM or Chrysler (other than my 50 Chevy PU).
