Put my window down and when I went to put it back up!! Guess What??? It wouldn't go back up. I'm not quite sure what it is but after finding this site, I guess I know now. And of course with my luck, its been storming (not raining, but pouring) off and on all day today. My fianc'e is out of town and no relatives around!!! Luckily I have an old garage (that i never use) that I can pull in to. Don't know what I'm going to do when I need to use the jeep though. Especially if it's raining!!!

Rear Window drivers side would not go up. Took vehicle to the dealer and they said the regulator had broken. We have the extended warranty which paid for the regulator minus our $100 dollar deductible, but they said the glass had to be replaced even though it was fine. That cost an additional $150. Now I find out this is a recurring problem on Jeep Liberties. Very unhappy.

So, we inherited this car through a family member and come to find out the widows do not work (@ 24,000 miles). After inspection I found the plastic regulator broke, which is a very bad design. Dealer wanted $400 a window and so I told him he could keep them and I will order my own and install. Hopefully they will recall this issue but as a precaution I think I'm going to affix something to the bottom of the worm drive so the regulator won't fall off again.

Ok, this is the second time I have had to deal with this problem. I bought this car used which there was only a 30,000mi warranty on it when purchased. So, my left passenger window fell down into the door the 1st time, the warranty had already ran out, how convient. So I called the jeep dealership and they told me it was going to cost me $400-$500.Luckly I indeed up finding a friend to fix it for $150. It's amazing the mark-ups these car companies put on car maintenance. Anyways, I was driving to work yesturday and I rolled down my left passenger window for a few minutes, then I went to roll it back up and it wouldn't go back up. Then it decided to fall into the door. I am so ticked off that seems to be a re-occuring thing, and not to mentioned Iam not the only one that seems to be dealling with the same issue.

I am so sick and tired of the car companies ripping people off. Chyrsler-Jeep needs to have this issue recalled. Oh, but I forgot Chyrsler has gone bankrupt...because there cars suck and are cheaply made.

Second Rear window regulator went bad. They are on National Backorder, so as of now Duct Tape it is... Really poor design. They break when they get to the top. The motor keeps pulling and breaks the plastic guide. This could easily be remedied by changing the cable design to end teeth when window is fully up. That way the motor can no longer pull force against it to break the plastic guide. OR, the plastic guide and the cable should have a screw thru it, attaching them together and it would stop it. I am a Chrysler Certified tech, have been for 20 years, and this is about the most cheezy thing I have ever seen.

A window regulator broke for the fourth time since I bought this Jeep. So far warranty has covered the repairs but now the vehicle is out of warranty. It's a holiday so I will have to wait to find out the cost but I am disgusted with having to deal with this again and from what I've read there is no long-term solution in sight. I have signed the petition at www.petitiononline.com/Recall/petition.html. Chrysler should step up and recall these problematic parts. In the meantime I wonder if it is possible to purchase a different brand of regulator; one that won't go out within the year. And it might be possible to live with a broken back window for a while but as all owners have discovered, these jeeps have horrible vacuum noise when driving over thirty miles an hour with the back windows down, unless you crack a front window, which is another inexcusable design flaw of the vehicle.

We wish we had read this page. Oh brother. Bought a used 2006 jeep and 8 days later, the RR window fell into the door. I took the panel off to find the p.o.s. plastic clip had broken and the worm drive cable had disengaged from the regulator. Has anyone come up with a Rube Goldberg fix for this problem? Glue, screws or hose clamps? Is there a cheap mechanic in the 94040 area code with a good idea? Maybe Fiat will make good on repairing this Chrysler b.s. problem.

Just another steer in the herd!! Love my Jeep, but it has become a prime example of why the American auto industry is in the shape it's in! Since I purchased this car I have had all of the window regulators replaced. The rear drivers side is about to be replaced for the third time. The first three repairs were done under the basic warranty, the fourth was done with a $50 dollar co-pay and the insult of having to hear the service manager explain what a deal I was getting, and the fifth time will be today with an out of warranty $100 co-pay. The only plus this time is that I am having the work done at a dealership other than the one where I purchased the car, and the service manager has been a pretty decent guy about it. With no recall in sight what Chrysler is doing is adding, at minimum, an extra $1200 plus to the purchase of this car. This is a defective component that Chrysler has known about for a long time. They continued to sell this car knowing that the regulators would fail, and if out of warranty the owner would have to keep replacing these systems. To add insult to injury, EVERY time I have taken this in to the dealer they same the same thing; 'We know it sucks, we know it's going to keep happening, and we know we're not going to do anything about it.'

This regulator problem is a small example in a tidal wave of problems the American car companies have, but it's a great example of why they deserve to fail. I WANT to buy American, I would love to continue to be a Jeep owner, but for the average American it's too expensive to gamble with the quality of such a large investment as a car. Buy American and stay up at night wondering when the next breakdown will happen. Buy Japanese and sleep well at night!

This is at least the fifth time we have had this problem with the back window in our Jeep. The first three times it was under warranty and fixed at no cost. Now we are six months into the year and this is the third time it has broken. Never had any problems with the front windows, just the back. The last time we took it in it cost us $100.00 with the warranty we purchased. Today I told my son to put the window down because I was pumping gas and it is hot in Florida. When I closed the driver door the back driver side window just fell. I am so friggin ticked off because I don't have the time to sit at the dealer and wait for this to be fixed. I now have to take time off of work. My husband was told, the last time he was there, that Jeep knows this is a problem but there are no recalls on the horizon. I love my Liberty, but have to say I will not purchase another one.

My window just broke today. wouldn't go back up. called my uncle said it may be the window motor. typed in some keywords trying to locate some parts. came across this site. now I am trying to figure out what to do because it seems like I will be doing this a lot. By the way my window is being held with a vise grip. I may just get four and never roll my windows down. yeah me.

Current regulator replacement is fourth in under a year. Two on the driver rear about 6 and 9 months ago, one on passenger rear 3 weeks ago and latest on driver side! Latest is by far the most inconvenient. I plan to fight the latest problem, but it sounds from other complaints that it won't be successful. I basically live in Toledo, Ohio and was proud to own my Toledo made Jeep. Chrysler's reluctance to address a clear mechanical flaw means it will be my last Toledo made Jeep.

I love my Jeep Liberty, except for my window regulator problem. I have had 4 window regulators replaced on three different window while still under my warranty. Now that I'm passed my warranty I need another window regulator replaced and another window is starting to not roll up right. It's taken three weeks to work it out with Chrysler and the dealership and the price went from $350 to a $50 co-pay to a $100 co-pay and back down to a $50 co-pay. I've been told by a Jeep mechanic that this is a common problem with many Liberty vehicles of different years. I think this should be a recall item and I shouldn't have to pay a dime.

My car is in the shop as I speak for 2 windows and 2 regulators. Just had the other two fixed in 2008. There are lots of complaints about this and no recalls. We need to get a class action suite against them because this is not right. What if you are on vacation and your windows just fall and all of your items are stolen? What then? who will responsible?

We need to get serious and get something done about this.

I'm a mechanic for a local shop. I'm just going to give some info for anybody that's interested. The problem with these regulators is in the design. I have done many of them. Even the "updated regulators" will fail, there the same design as the previous ones. Chrysler has changed nothing in the regulator as far as design goes. They make you buy the window because it clips into the regulator differently than previous ones. In my opinion they should sell the updated clip that goes on your current window and not sell you the whole glass.

Chrysler is ripping everybody off and they know it. If anybody is interested I can do these as side work for $200 installed plus a gas charge depending on mileage in the central Florida area. I can come to your home or office. I'll need your VIN number so I can get the right parts. Contact me using the "send comment" link below if you have any questions.

Happened the day I bought the Jeep. Was told that the company has had lots of problems with the regulator and have changed design 7 times. So since the design was changed I had to buy a new window also. None of this was covered under factory warranty. Since they know there is a problem I feel it should have been a recall. What happens when the other 3 windows won't go back up? I guess I should have kept buying imports! Subaru,Honda,I never had any problems with them.
