I was taking my son to daycare and the back passenger side window literally fell into the door. It was raining and I wasn't able to stop before I arrived at the daycare, so the backseat got soaked and my son's clothes were a little damp from the wind blowing the rain in. After I dropped him off I immediately went to the dealership to get the window fixed only to find out 6 hours and $100 later that the window regulator is on national backorder and once it comes in it will cost me an additional $280 to be fixed. It's now almost 2 months later and I cannot locate the part anywhere. I currently have tape holding the window up. So now not only can someone easily break into my Jeep, but I have to replace the tape that's holding the window up often so my son will not get rained on again!

I have only had this vehicle for two months when the right rear window fell down into the door. I took it to a local auto dealer for repairs and was shocked when they told me that it would cost me $381 to have it repaired. They not only had to replace the window regulator, but also the glass. Upon questioning them on this seemingly high cost of repair, I was told that all of the window regulators have been redesigned and when they were being used in a repair situation, the window also had to be replaced because of the new way the two attached to each other. To make a long story short, I called Chrysler customer service and they had no problem picking up the cost of the parts for me. I also learned that the previous owner of the vehicle had the left rear window regulator replaced in May of '08 with only 17,000 miles on it. I have since learned that this has been a very significant problem with the Liberty and I feel it should be an item for recall.

I have had the wonderful piece of junk since Dec 08. Three days after I bought it (while driving to Florida), the rear driver's window popped and began to slide.....I still haven't replaced the regulator in it.....now Sept 09, the second window has done the same thing, (pass front). Not to mention that my driver side window is on it's way out. I took this to the dealer and was quoted over 400 to fix ONE! This should be a RECALL! This is crap. I have an 88 Jeep and guess what, ALL OF THE WINDOWS STILL ROLL UP AND DOWN!

Jeep is, for me, a four-letter word for JUNK or CRAP. I've got a 2006 Liberty. It was recalled several times the first few months for front-end problems. At 20,000 miles the air conditioner went -- in JUNE as I was driving from Phoenix to Tucson in 100+ weather.
The biggest complaint I have is the rear window regulators. I NEVER use the rear windows. Yet four times now I've heard a thunk in the back and look back, thinking a bird flew into the side of the vehicle or something, only to see that another window regulator has died and the window has fallen into the door. I get home, get my needle-nose pliers, pull up the window enough to grab ahold of it, and then use duct tape to hold the window shut.
The last time I took it in, the passenger side rear window regulator had failed. That was two months ago and it took a month to get the part in, because of Chrysler's bankruptcy, no one was shipping in supplies. I finally got that one fixed ($260) only to be driving to Lowe's yesterday and hearing that tell-tale thunk, this time behind me, in the driver-side rear window. Out came the needle-nose pliers and duct tape.
This was the first failure for the driver's side rear window, but the passenger side has failed three times in three years. Fortunately, this is a take-home company car, so I'll pay for the repair and put in for reimbursement. Once upon a time I thought I'd like to own an Jeep. After this experience, my other car, a '98 Toyota, just continues to impress me. After 130,000 miles, the only thing I've done is routine maintenance and one mechanical repair: replacing a bad starter at 128,000.
I would NEVER buy a Jeep -- or any Chrysler product, for that matter. The Liberty is a piece of crap!

Second window here, bought the vehicle used with right at 30K miles. Believe it or not, I bought this vehicle on Friday and the first window went down to stay on Saturday. Warranty fixed it and I did not thing much of it untill another went down last night. I googled Jeep window problems and came across all of these complaints. Now, I am mad and I just can not believe an American car company would not make this right. Too bad, because other than this issue I kind of like the vehicle, but I will not be buying another Jeep. If they will not own up to a small problem like this, then I just do not trust them anymore. I am also not to happy with the dealer that sold me the vehicle without so much as mentioning the issue. Since the first window that broke, would not come back up the first time I put it down, I am not sure it was not broke when they sold it to me. Thanks Orr of Searcy, AR. Won't be shopping there again either.

This happened to me the first week of ownership then two more fell after the warranty ran out. Then twice the same ones fell again, now the last one fell 3 weeks ago, they want $150.00 to repair. I think Jeep/Chrysler should take care of it and then the air conditioner....two times - I live in the desert!

I am now on my second broken window drive. I just purchased this liberty 1 month ago. I don't know how many times it happened to the previous owner. The first time was 1 week after I bought the jeep and a local repair shop filled me in on the situation. He had many people with the same problem over the last few years. Window just drops inside door frame and won't go back up. This is a major disgrace to all who trusted Chrysler and paid good money for bad products. I found a site with a "FIX". Just wanted to know if anyone has used the Steigler performance repair kit? If so, can you tell me if this helped. Appreciate any info.

Both my wife and I leased 2006 Jeep Liberty's. Problems started within 6 months on each car with the window regulators. First the driver front, then the passenger rear, etc, Thankfully, problem covered under warranty. Service manager at the dealership was no help, just fixed the problem. Both cars back for the same problem seven times. Major inconvenience. No recall? Poorly made piece of junk. Last American car for both me and the misses. We terminated our leases early and both got Honda Cr-V's. Excellent workmanship, great car and the WINDOWS DON'T FALL INTO THE DOOR IN FEBRUARY!!.
When I turned in one of the Jeeps, the salesman said "Oh, you leased Japanese, just when we need you the most" I guess I was supposed to feel bad. Where was Chrysler for me?
Tried recourse through Lemon Law Attorney. Waste of time, I was told the problem has to happen at least 4 times on the same window. I didn't want to reach this goal, so good bye Chrysler and hello Honda!

I saw the reviews about the window problems and I ignored them because one of my friends has a 2006 Liberty and has not had any problems. I realize that all cars will have problems, but this is ridiculous.
Update from Aug 27, 2009: Purchased two repair kits for both rear windows from an Ebay seller to fix this problem myself. The seller custom makes these kits and comments from the buyers were excellent. The cost is $89.99 per kit (per window) with detailed instructions on how to do it yourself and fix the problem permanently. Shipping was free. I will be repairing the windows in the next few weeks and I will post an update. Obviously Chrysler is not going to do anything about this problem so we need to take charge and not spend our hard earned money on any more of their crappy parts and labor. Next time I buy a car, I think it'll be a Honda or Toyota.

Need second window fixed. First covered by warranty. Unbelievable the number of complaints for this vehicle. Any suggestions on getting Chrysler District service manager help. Anyone had luck with Chrysler fixing outside of warranty?

My 2006 Jeep Liberty back rear window regulator has to be replaced. For no reason at all it stop working; due to being a cheap part in the first place. I am the only driver and no one rides in my back passenger seats; so it didn't happen because of constantly rolling down the windows. I took it to be looked at and it will cost me 280.00 dollars, and I am totally pissed; being that my warranty expired at 36,000 miles; and I am at 42,000 miles. Jeep has very cheap parts, and it's clear that by several complaints about this, it needs to be recalled. I can't wait to trade in this vehicle at the end of the year, hopefully.

The window seemed to 'come off the track' and I let it go. So everytime I rolled the window on the drivers side up, I had to manually put pressure on it to keep it in track. Unfortunately, I didn't get the problem fixed before the warranty ran out. I was quoted 458.00 to get it fixed. It's Toyota for me, next.

I can't believe how many other Jeep Liberty owners have this same problem. The driver's side rear window stopped working yesterday, and now I've been told that it will cost $250.00 to have it fixed. Don't even know if I'll need to replace the window also like others have had to do. This is the least used window in the car because I rarely have a passenger on that side. I had a passenger on that side yesterday, on an out of town trip (naturally). After getting in and out of the car a few times (he wasn't even using the window) , the window slid down about 4 inches and stayed there. There are no after market parts for the window regulators. Why, after so many complaints, no Recall???? I probably won't buy another Jeep. There are too many other good SUVs out there.

I also have had a regulator problem on my 2006 Liberty. Both back windows. Bad design all the way around.

I am getting VERY SICK AND TIRED of the window regulators in my 2006 Jeep Liberty!!! One of them AGAIN decided to die on me today (August 8th, 2009). When I purchased the Liberty in late December of 2006, I didn't realize it would be such of a curse for window regulators.
You see, a few weeks after my purchase, the left rear window regulator died. That was in January of 2007. Then in January of 2008, the same left rear window regulator died. I was on a trip to Key West when that occurred. In April of 2008, the right rear window regulator died. Had enough? Well, in June of 2008, the right front window regulator died. In August of 2008, the left front window regulator died. All was well until this evening (August 8th) when the right rear window regulator decided to DIE!!!
I'm frustrated with all of this and I was highly angered when this occurred because it has occurred with me all of these times BEFORE! (When will this end?) I am NOT surprised that both GM and Chrysler are having difficulty now. Why? They build "junk" for cars!!! I've never owned a Ford, but now I'm tempted to go ahead and buy one. At least Ford isn't on life support as GM and Chrysler are!!! (GM and Chrysler really are okay, but they could definitely improve on their quality! However, it is ironic that many of the "Cash for Clunkers" cars are Ford Explorers.)
Fortunately, the Liberty has an extended warranty and hopefully, I won't have to pay anything to get this fixed. (It has almost 56,000 miles and the warranty will run out at 100,000.) The Liberty is scheduled to get a regular oil change on August 14th and I hope the regulator can be fixed then. It's a problem, though, because the window is down and CAN NOT get back up on its own. (Can you say easy way to steal something out of my Liberty???) When I push the window up, it falls back down. I actually do have the panel off and have tried to bolt the track. I wonder if that will hold.

For no reason, my rear driver's side window dropped down inside the door and will not go up. Now driving around with plastic taped over gaping hole in the door. Now trying to figure out how to repair this by self but must find someone who has the part needed. Real pain in the ass as I do not have the money to fix and do not feel safe driving with plastic and tape on the window opening. Anyone can break into vehicle and duct taping is not holding up as far as when driving down the highway and in the rain. After reading so many complaint about this problem, this vehicle should have been recalled. Already had 3 other recalls on vehicle for other issues. No wonder many Americans will only buy foreign made cars. No wonder the auto industry is in the fix it's in - there is no pride in quality workmanship. It's all a matter of making something as cheaply as possible but asking as much as possible. Nothing is made to last. Wish I had never purchased this vehicle - should have stuck with Toyota.

This window regulator problem on the rear windows is more than just an irritating problem, it's a legal time bomb with a short fuse. When the cable snaps off the window, it can come out the back side (happened to me twice). When this happens, the door can not be opened because the cable is wedged between the door and the lock post on the door frame. First time a person dies because EMS can't get them out of a burning car, Jeep will be the big looser in court. There is a very good chance that this will happen sooner or later as this problem is quite common when the cable breaks off the window.
How about a "Class Action" against Jeep? They don't appear to be phased by the number of complaints, maybe that will get their attention.

OK now I am angry- I cannot afford to fix this and it's 107 degrees outside and I live in a crappy neighborhood so am hoping it is ok until I can get it fixed. I want to trade it off
- Ginny H., Gresham, OR, US
Now 3 of my windows have broken - the latest when it was 107 degrees and on the highway- I don't really have the money to fix them and can't sell it the way it is- LEMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am highly annoyed i bought my jeep in December of 2008 and with six months i had to replace three regulators. The two back ones and the front passenger. My warranty expired because of time and just today the drivers window went out! grrr i am so up set.... if this keeps happening to people then why are there no recalls?!?
