I bought the 2006 Jeep Liberty for my son as he needed a reliable vehicle but could not afford a replacement. The Jeep was purchased from a reliable dealer plus the Jeep had only 40,000 original miles on it and was in excellent condition. However, within two months, one of the rear windows dropped and my son took it back to the dealer. The dealer indicated that he could do the work but the window regulator was the problem and was a recalled part. The dealer taped up the window and suggested my son call Chrysler about getting it fixed.
My son works long hours and so he couldn't set up an appointment in the near-term. However, a month or so later, the second rear window breaks and falls down. My son then called Chrysler and Chrysler said the recall part is no longer covered by them because of a time limit - a time limit apparently set by Chrysler. Since when should a defective part ever have a time limit set by the manufacturer arbitrarily?
Chrysler should be held accountable for replacing defective parts and ensuring the owner is compensated. If Chrysler expects to ever have our business again, Chrysler should fix the problem they created. Now, I have to help my son somehow someway fix these two windows (and who knows if another will fail soon).

Ok, now the third time this has happened, obviously the new parts were as defective as the originals. This time happened while we're traveling so have to order parts and have it fixed before we can carry on.

Window regulator broke on driver's side rear window, causing the window to fall into the door while driving with two children in the backseat in January. Researched the issue, found it is a common complaint, with the solution being to replace the regulator assembly with an identical assembly doomed to fail because it is a defective part in the first place! Went with an online purchase of an aftermarket repair kit NOT made from brittle plastic. As with other problems with this vehicle, the regulators are "a known defect," so I'm just waiting for the other three windows to fall! What the hell, Chrysler?

So I had to take my vehicle to a repair shop and had an issue with the left rear window that was no longer working with power windows. I had to wedge material between the window and door frame to avoid the window falling into the door itself until I could have the repair complete.
Once I took the vehicle to the repair shop and was quoted such a large amount for a seemingly simple fix, I was advised that there were 2 different regulators for this make and model.
This sparked questions and as I conducted research and contacted the dealership, I realized that this has been a long-standing issue with the 2006 Jeep Liberty. I have contacted Jeep and been advised that since my vehicle was manufactured in 2005, though the regulator was already replaced with a 2006 version (which is shown to be faulty and was provided an extended warranty) while at the dealership and being used as a rental vehicle. They would go based off of the manufacture date and still not cover replacement of the regulator again.
Update from May 1, 2015: So other than the dealership advised me of the wrong part number for this part when attempting to order it from parts location to avoid the high added fees at dealership, they advised that my car was manufactured in August 2006 (per the records for my vehicle), not up to mid 2006 (when these 2005 regulators were apparently installed). WRONG AGAIN CHRYSLER JEEP.
I called the dealership after obtaining the part number from the repair department and confirmed that though my car was manufactured in late 2006, they still placed 2005 regulators in my car due to a previous faulty regulator issue with models manufactured in late 2006. When I asked why they provided me false information previously because it clearly shows that the original regulator was already replaced prior to my purchase and they replaced with the same 2005 regulator that is being litigated now they only advised cannot comment. In addition, the parts and repair were on me because the lawsuit only cover individuals that have had a SECOND fail after 2008 or 2009. You know the bankruptcy and all releases them on liability for any prior claims. So the next time my regulator fails (praying my child won't be in the backseat or on the freeway) I can join the class action. Hopefully I won't be hospitalized or dead.

2006 Jeep window regulator problem.......Chrysler issued an extended warranty for this problem but is no longer extending this service. I have read sooooooooo many people complaining about this problem. Have talked with Chrysler Customer Assistance Center and the people never even heard about this extended warranty. They are so inept they sound like they are 15 yrs old....and know NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! I am so mad about being ripped off by Chrysler and Larry H Miller dealership. I will NEVER own another Chrysler product. Should have stuck with my Buick!

I fixed the driver side rear in 2010 right after I got the vehicle. Then, in 2013 I need to replace both windows in the back I brought the regulator, but it's still not working. My windows and door locks are all mess up. Please help me.

I bought a used Liberty with a broken window regulator. The guy knocked off 500 bucks. I bought a Stinger for 100 bucks. They guy said he had one of the other windows fixed before he sold the vehicle to me. Since then I have replaced all 4 window regulator with Stinger kits. They work great. My Mom also has a Liberty. I have replaced one of her regulator with a Stinger kit. I will most likely have to replace the rest of them in the next few years. As you can guess, I can install a Stinger kit without reading the directions. It takes about 2 hours and 2 or three beers.

This is a problem I have had since before my warranty went out. The first time the window regulator broke, I was driving near the dealership and pulled in to get it fixed at no charge. The second time it happened out of warranty and I used some cardboard to hold the window up. Soon after, the other back window regulator broke. My husband complained all the way up the line till he got someone from the Jeep Manufacturer to waive the charges for the replacement regulators as a "goodwill" gesture. I think they just got tired of him bugging them. About a year or so later, my passenger side window broke. I made the joke that we might as well prop it up with a 2 by 4. Well, my husband decided to rig up a padded piece of metal tubing to hold the window up permanently. That worked but of course I can't roll the window down. About a year later, my driver's side back window also broke. Out comes another rigged up solution like the other window. For years now, I have 2 propped up windows and no solution in sight other than putting out at least $800 to get them fixed. Just in case anyone at Jeep thinks this was wear and tear, this is definitely not the case here. I very rarely have passengers in my car and I drive to and from work less than 5 miles total every day. Even when all the windows worked, I very rarely rolled them up or down on the front and rear passenger seats. I do of course roll the driver's side window up and down but that is the only window I have never had a problem with is on the driver's side.

Neither of my rear windows work due to this problem. One inexplicably fell down several years ago, approximately 2009. Of course we were out of town on a family trip. I reported it to Chrysler, and of course they refused to pay for the repair. The customer service rep, Maria, did admit that there was a problem with the regulator! She said to have it repaired at the dealership. I was told by the dealer that it would cost close to $500.00 to replace the regulator AND the window (window was not broken), and that they would HAVE to replace both.. that it came as a kit of some kind. I paid $100.00 to have the window raised and nailed into place from inside the door.
This year, 2014, the other rear window also fell down. I was able to slide it up and it is duct taped to the ceiling and the roof of the Jeep. Nice. I also reported this incident to Chrysler, and they still deny responsibility to repair this defective part.
These regulators need to be recalled. This is far from an isolated incident and has been going on for years, as anyone with a computer can see. Also, I have found that it is impossible to resell this vehicle, because first of all, the back windows don't work, and second of all, this problem is so common and everyone seems to know about it and how expensive it is to fix them.
Thanks JEEP.

The vehicle was covered under a technical service bulletin after the first EIGHT window failures, 5 out of pocket. Then 4 more after the TSB, which included a redesign, and another redesign. Now the windows are failing again and there is no recourse for Window Thirteen and Fourteen. Beyond unbelievable.

Overall.. I Love my Jeep. But this Window Regulator issue has pushed me to the limit!
I have replaced 1 window twice and another as well..so I am out close to $1000.
Guess what?!!!!! they are all broken again! I want the windows fixed and fixed right, with good quality equipment and parts.

I purchased my 2006 Jeep Liberty new. This is the second window that just fell down out of the blue. I am the only person that drives it and don't use it often. It has 32,000 miles on it. In 2013 I paid $360.00 for the other one to be fixed.
Update from May 1, 2015: Had to pay another $350.00 to have second rear window repaired. I was going to leave it duct taped as an advertisement for Jeep but could not get it inspected if any windows didn't work.

Rear left side passenger window regulator breaks. Ordered part online as Chrysler quotes $400.00 for same defective part that broke. Boyfriend installed new part.
- Sarah G., Glenview, IL, US
My first window went out in 2009; I was rolling down my driver's side rear door to let a friend say goodbye to my son and the window fell off into the door. The driver's side window fell into my door while I was at a drive-thru in 2013, and now my passenger-side rear window has fallen into the door just this summer when my kid tried rolling down the window for some air. The only one I was able to get fixed (BUT WOW, incredible hassle as Chrysler gave me such a run-around that I ended up paying out of pocket from a private mechanic) was my driver's side, since I really need that window to be functioning. I left both rear windows propped up closed from the inside with 2x4's wedged into the door frame. I can't afford the hundreds (or thousands) it will cost to keep fixing them.

Right rear passenger side window regulator breaks. Chrysler quotes $400.00 to replace with defective part that already broke. I bought new part online and boyfriend installed it.

Yes, this is a safety issue when it comes to having both windows in the back' broke, with the children in the back with rain coming in and them which they could fall out the windows. Isn't that a safety issue? I called. Sj Denhem in California, they said it's not a recall because no one has been hurt, well does death have to happen to get this issue resolved''''''? That's pretty sad when someone has to die to get the window regulators replaced, Sad.
Well, I think had both of the back window reg replaced and they both broke again, it cost me over $300.00 ,,,,,,, So opened the back door panels and put 2 large metal clips to hold up my windows on each door,,,,,, This is my invention, it's held up all summer and all winters. For a many yes.
PS. I m not sure who's the blame but I think keeping children safe would be no. 1 to prevent injury. 11/6/14

One window regulator breaks, fixed by extended warranty (still had $100 deductible)....I've had both rear windows break since then and just had a brace installed to keep them up at all times. Highly expensive to fix! And very inconvenient!!!

I bought my Jeep liberty in 2007, it is a 2006 model. I have had to replace every window in my car with the same problem. I called the company and told them and they didn't seem to care. Now I am waiting for a new gas tank for almost a year and a half that was recalled-they don't seem to care about their products or their customers. I won't buy another Jeep after this. Every time I turn around, some things are being recalled.

I had to have 5 window regulators fixed over 5 years, on top of the shifter cable hanging up so I couldn't get my keys out of the car. My wife has had the Jeep stop running while driving down the road. I wish they would just write me a check and they can take it back The Liberty really gives Jeep a bad name.

I have this Jeep 2006 Liberty and purchased it new...............I have replaced four window regulators and now this is a subsequent replacement, window went down while driving. This is the fifth regulator I have replaced at my cost of $300 each. The Jeep only has 32,000 miles on it, and hardly ever use any windows other the drivers side.
I am so pissed off, and Chrysler should recall these regulators, they are plastic and keep on breaking. Cannot even go back to my dealer, as they went out of business several years ago. I have had these problems fixed at my expense by my local service station, as the dealers are even more expensive, a recall and lawsuit for this problem should be put in place. NJ resident...................and use this Jeep only as a second vehicle around town. As you can see 32K miles and the Jeep is 8 years old.
This is so unfair, we should be compensated by Chrysler, no recall as far as I know, because it is not a safely issue. I had three previous Jeeps and never had this problem. Lemon law should apply on this issue.
