I'm speeding up as I'm passing a truck on 395, signaling with left blinker. Start speed as beginning to pass is approx. 55 mph. I signal right as I pull back in the South bound lane, take my foot off the gas pedal as I notice I'm driving 80 mph. The gas pedal is stuck and the car is going 80 mph on its own. I step on the brake carefully but its rock hard and doesn't move at all. At this point the car is stuck at 80 mph. I try to brake again but the same - brake pedal is stuck, doesn't move at all and is rock hard. Road conditions are good so I'm in a "controlled panic", and try the brake one more time. This time the brakes engage and I get the car down to 65 mph. I don't want to burn the brakes so I release the brake and immediately the car speeds up on its own to 80 mph. I repeat. Slow to 65 mph, step off the brake and again the car immediately speeds up to 80 mph. At this point my thoughts go to cruise control (which I had not activated or used on this trip). I pull the "cancel" on the cruise control, nothing. I try again and look at the dashboard where the cruise control light is "off", indicating cruise control is not on. I turn the cruise control on and pull the "cancel" again and brake. This time the car comes out of it, and I turn the cruise control off again. Since the cruise control was not even on to begin with, I don't know if that's what actually made the car 'unfreeze'. I was lucky I was on a straight stretch of road with no traffic in front of me. Since I was passing a truck I'm not 100% sure if I sped up to 80 mph or if the car suddenly did that on its own. I do believe the car did that, as there was no reason to get up to that speed to pass safely.

I was on my way back to work during my lunch hour driving on alexander St. In corpus christi Texas. That street has several dips. As I drove over one of the dips the Jeep suddenly accelerated in such a speed that I was unable to stop it and it hit a parked car. My car was approximately 10 feet from the parked car which made it almost impossible for me to avoid hitting the car. I firmly believe the accident was a result of "sudden unintended acceleration" there is no other way to explain this unfortunate accident. With all the dips on that street it is impossible to speed, additionally it is right in front of a school which has a speed limit of no more than 15 mph. If this had occurred in a different area this could have been catastrophic, fatally injuring myself and family or another human being. Currently the car is at this location: Https://www.iaai.com/vehicles/vehicledetails.aspx?itemid=21976104 this will allow you to view all pictures and perhaps it can be inspected thoroughly. Make a note of the odometer, it reads "error"!....updated 06/22/16 *

I purchased my Jeep from a private owner back in 10/2013. I thought I wrote a complaint out but I can not find it here. I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty with a roll back top. While driving with my grandson the top blew back and broke the clip broke when it flew back.. to fix, it will cost $2,000 to 2,500 dollars. It was out of warranty and Chrysler would not help me in any way I called Chrysler direct and a local dealer. I did not think it was the right thing to do being that I do not believe a roof she be able to blow off your vehicle. I could have been on a highway driving 50 or 60 miles per hour and that roof could have blown totally off my Jeep and really caused a problem. Extremely dangerous.as far as look at it this it is a huge defect.. I have driven many convertible cars and never had the roof blow back. Plus the noise factor is just awful. You cannot even hear someone speak with the top closed. The wind is just awful there design on this roof is dangerous and just plain awful!!

Vehicle will loose power while at hwy speed. As if slamming on brakes dash lights light up as your seatbelt locks and you slam forward. Headlights will turn off while inside dash lights remain on. Must use brights to drive or pull over. Windows, seats move themselves. While vehicle is off and unattended. Sometimes while pulling in a parking spot car lunges forward. Sometimes while sitting at a red light it just powers off and must be restarted. Evidence of a leak somewhere can not be located. The leak has stained a little on the inside roof.

Occasion 1. vehicle parked. Lights began flashing, horn sounding, washers squirting, door locks operating. Unable to exit vehicle. Trapped inside with 4 year old grandson for ten minutes. Ignition key inoperable. Finally managed to get vehicle ignition going, and drove home. Vehicle power fluctuating causing uncontrollable power surges. Occasion 2. vehicle approaching junction at 10 mph. Lights. Horn, washers, doorlocks operating - pulled vehicle over, unable to engage park, removed key from ignition - vehicle engine still running but managed to engage park, however then could not get it out of park. Exited vehicle, engine still running, lights, horn etc actuating, and could not re-enter vehicle. Numerous complaints of this on this website as well as various Jeep forums. Contact with Jeep gives no response other than vehicle out of warranty see your dealer. This is a systemic problem, not a spurious one off specific vehicle fault and could be a safety concern given the lack of control you have over basic vehicle powertrain and driveabiltiy functions. Jeep had already repaired the vehicle under warranty once before for same fault. Removing battery connections resets the system until the problem re-occurs.throws error code P0883 occasionally when in this malfunctioning mode.

Sept. 8, 2012 I took my Jeep to the dealership I purchased it from, and have had all maintenance work completed by, for routine factory maintenance and an oil change. I told them I was leaving for an extended road trip and requested they look everything over to see if there might be any safety issues. On Sept. 17, 2012 while traveling on the interstate, I accelerated and the accelerator pedal stuck. I do not have cruise control and it was not related to the floor mats. This happened several times while on the road trip. I returned home Sept. 19, 2012 and for the next 2 weeks the accelerator stuck intermittently, with no common underlying cause. Oct. 2, 2012, while backing into a parking space the accelerator stuck at a high RPM and I nearly crashed. I contacted the same dealership, who originally wanted to look at the vehicle almost a week later even after I explained how serious the issue was. I managed to talk them into looking at the Jeep on Oct 3, 2012 and they were able to duplicate the accelerator sticking on their first try. They contacted me later in the day to tell me it would be $385 to fix and was not covered under my extended manufacturer warranty. I contacted the warranty administrators who also said it was not covered as the accelerator is considered "an accessory". I tried to get some assistance through Chrysler customer care assistance to no avail. Now the issue has become serious enough that I'm afraid to drive the vehicle. In other words, it is worse now than before. I'd like to receive some assistance with this issue and/or find out what truly constitutes a vehicle accessory, as the accelerator pedal seems to be an integral part of the vehicle's operation, not an "accessory" like a stereo or luggage rack. Help?

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty 4X4. The contact was driving 30 mph as transmission fluid began abnormally leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test that located the failure at the transmission seal. The dealer replaced the transmission seal and housing extension but the failure persisted. When attempting to shift gears, the transmission would exhibit an unusual knocking. On one occasion while driving 30 mph, the vehicle abnormally accelerated and the contact was able to stop the acceleration by abruptly applying the brakes. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,850 and the current mileage was 45,000.

Vehicle accelerated and would not stop. I did hard braking and it just pushed it anyway. Pulled off the road and the wheels dug trenches in the dirt. Got it stopped, called a wrecker and had it towed to the Jeep dealer where we purchased the vehicle, told them what happened and that the throttle light came on the dashboard and they said they could find nothing wrong and that they had never heard of this happening to anyone else. They reset the computer and sent me home. I am concerned it could happen again. Is there any evidence of this happening to others ?
