Unfortunately, I have had this problem for a while now and frankly its extremely annoying. It doesn't open anymore, has gaps in the lining and at this point its starting to leak. I had called to have it looked at last summer and unfortunately don't have the money to have it looked at or fixed. My Jeep is garage keep and worked perfectly for years, until one day it just wouldn't open. Its sad that this has not been recalled. I love my Jeep, but makes me not want to buy another Jeep. :(

This really needs to be on a recall list. This is very dangerous when driving. My skyroof would not close & jumped track. Now the dealer needs to replace the whole setup. I cannot afford $3,500.00 to fix what should have been a recall already. Someone please help. This is my only transportation.

I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty that has a broken sky slider. We did not use it very much at all. One day we pushed the button to open the front section, one side started sliding and the other did not. It came off track because of this. We were able to get it back on track but the one side still does not work. We have manually closed it, but it keeps popping up and gaping. I took it to a trip shop and he said the only ones that could fix it was the dealer and it would be at least $3000. Really? I barely used this and now am unable to afford to fix it. I love jeeps but I wish they would stand behind their product. There should be a recall!

While parked with car idling, I pushed the button to open the panoramic roof on my 2008 Jeep Liberty. It got stuck and was uneven. It stopped, and a few seconds later it attempted to close on it's own, I heard a 'pop' and the front of the roof moved forward then popped up. I pushed the front of the roof down so I could get home. On the way home at 15 mph, the front of the roof popped up at flipped back. It scared me so much I almost lost control of the car. It scared everyone in the car because of the loud noise and sudden flop opening of the roof. On having it inspected it appears that the bracket on the front passenger side broke. No warning! Unsafe and endangered lives. If anyone knows how to resolve this problem please email me at: Kandlcpr at gmail. Thanks!

Does anyone have an update on class action law suits, lemon laws, inexpensive repairs to a broken 2008 Jeep Liberty Sky Slider? Mine just stopped working, and I don't think it is completely closed, although it has not rained since it broke. I have read the horror stories about how much this will cost to repair (which never seems to work anyway) and I know I do not have that kind of cash, which will equate to about what I still owe on the car (bought used in 2012.) I would just like to seal it shut if needed, and give it to my daughter to drive till it dies, but don't want it flying off! Please let me know if anyone has come up with anything on this!

I have the moon roof and there is no one that can fix it... I've asked around and people don't want to even fool with it... Now the roof won't stay closed and I have problems with leaks.....I need a solution.

So we buy a 2008 Jeep Liberty Limited from a dealer here in our town. They said that previous had issues with skyslider and could never get help, so they just disengaged it. (leaked and wouldn't close, kept coming off tracks etc) They said that they hadn't had issues as it was unusable.
So we get Jeep has 40,000 original miles. We struggled keeping it as I have issues with my ears and the wind noise was atrocious. We were told silicone caulk along front of skyslider. Cut noise 90%. We noticed a leak during our first big storm it was outside in during April 2015. Called local dealer was told it would be over $1000 to fix and they really weren't up for fixing them because they are as shop manager stated "a pain in the ass" and if I had it repaired, I would have it back over and over again for same repair as there is no real fix, except for one. That is to have top cut out and metal welded in place.
Here we are in June, major storms and the entire right side of vehicle interior looks like old nasty pee stains. It has flooded. My Jeep, that I have been meticulous about, looks like a nasty used junker inside now. Smell isn't too great now either. Why did Chrysler not recall and just replace with metal? Why are they allowed to know of a defect and let it just get brushed under rug. I understand we bought this new but when original buyer sells it because no one will take care of expensive problem, we have an issue here. So it goes to body shop for estimate to just get slider removed and replaced with a metal roof and who pays for it? Me. I am saddened no one gets help for this and still 7 years later the problem is growing and yet there is no one to help

2008 JEEP LIBERTY FROM HELL!!!!!!
I bought a 2008 Jeep Liberty SUV for $25k. in cash. Within 4 days my Sky Slider went off track so I bought it back to Goldstein I called about my Jeep few days later, now I am getting the running around for about 23 days and my Jeep was not fix. So I call Chrysler, they was giving me the run around too.
I get my Jeep back in 26 days, mind you I just bought this Jeep in 2008. I have bought this Jeep back to Goldstien 6 times for the same problems, the Sky Slider. I took it back this time again Aug. 24, 2014 because of the motor and the cable broke on the sky slider again. I was told they will not fix it and also Chrysler refuse to fix it, when I got my Jeep back not being fix who ever tried to pull back the sky slider left all their finger print grease all over the top on the sky slider, what a mess in my Jeep not cleaning off the grease.
Goldstein wants me to pay them $2,000 to fix this on going problem with the sky slider. Since I bought this 2008 Jeep Liberty it has been a nightmare from hell. If any one else is having problems with there sky slider please write so all the 2008 Jeep Liberty can be RECALL on.

We've had this Liberty in to dealers in Illinois where we bought it and in South Carolina where my daughter had the vehicle going to college. Had it in because the slider broke while in the open position. It wouldn't close. Got it fixed-had to pay out of pocket-not covered under mfg warranty. The cable broke on one side.
Several months later, same problem! Took it in to dealer, the cable broke on the other side. Paid again to have it fixed. Wind noise was worse after repairs.
Found on a forum a guy who made wind deflector large enough to fit. Helped somewhat with the wind noise, but still annoying, especially on the highway.
Just had it back in to Illinois dealer, stuck in open position. This time, the retainer pins, bow arms, basically the whole slider assembly was replaced. The dealer said they "broke" the deflector when they took it off to repair the slider.
Now we still have wind noise problem, can open slider-though we are afraid to open it and get it stuck in open position again.
Can't find deflector to replace one that dealer broke. Dealer can't find one either! They had us come once saying they had found one only to get there and it was a sunroof deflector that was too small. Frustrated that Jeep will do NOTHING about this problem. Wish they would be willing to replace slider with a solid sunwindow, so we don't have to worry about water leakage or someone accidently opening the roof and not be able to close it.

I'm a mother of an infant, and with only a two door car for my husband and I we bought the jeep in hopes that it would make our lives easier. But in fact, it made it worse. I did not purchase a warranty through the dealer because it was only extra money that I couldn't afford. But after only 2 weeks of having the jeep I had to take it back to the dealership and complain that my sky slider roof was leaking water. They fixed the problem and didn't charge me because the pin had simply come out of the hole. A measly few weeks later the problem had happened again. And this time the wind coming in the front of my sky slider had gotten out of control. But the only thing they could tell me was I had to take it to a Jeep dealer. My few month old son was sitting in the back of the Jeep AND IT'S WINTER, while wind and water come in. HOW IS THIS SAFE AND NOT BEING RECALLED?! A few days ago my mom had told me to call Jeep. I called and only got the response that it was out of warranty and they couldn't do anything for me. I called a Jeep dealership again, and they wanted to charge me $88 dollars to just look at it. The next dealership said $500 for a 5 hour inspection and MAYBE they could fix it but plan on my car being there for two days. FANTASTIC. I cannot go without a car for 2 days. My husband works, and I'm going back to school. I'm completely dissatisfied with my Jeep. I love the car itself, but this roof just made my life hell. If they don't pass this Lemon Law against them soon, I'm going to go nuts. I don't have the money nor the time to deal with this.

I own a 2008 Jeep Liberty with the sky view. It had a problem with wind noise. So I took it back to the dealer to have fixed. The dealer adjusted the cables to fix the noise which helped some. But after only opening the top twice in three months after the adjustment it open crooked. Back to the dealer I go. Now the dealer says I need a complete new track, rails, cross supports and a list of other things for the sky view to a total amount of $3,400-$3,800. Of course my warranty is out this time. The dealer did get the top back down for me. But now it won't stay closed on the right front corner. Now it just pops loose just by driving 60mph down the road from the wind. I am still looking for a way to fix the problem for a reasonable amount of money. MY OPINION, DON'T BUY ONE WITH A SKY VIEW ! And if you have one that is not giving you trouble, GET RID OF IT NOW !

WHEN THE ROOF FIRST LEAKED ON NOV.11,2011, I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WHO DRAINED THE TUBES IN THE ROOF. THEY CLEANED THEM OUT BUT THERE WERE WATER STAINS INSIDE THE CAR ON THE SEATS AND ROOF.WHICH COULD NOT BE CLEANED. THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON JULY 3, 2012; AGAIN BRINGING IT IN TO BE DRAINED. THE THIRD TIME WAS ON AUG. 1O, 2012...SAME THING...AND MORE WATER STAINS! APPARENTLY THERE IS SOME FLAW. I HAVE 3 FRIENDS WITH JEEPS AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO THEM, AND THIS "LEAK" ISSUE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE COVERED UNDER ANY PART OF THE WARRANTY. WHAT CAN I DO???

Hello everyone. Round 2 of issues for my '08 Jeep Liberty Limited Skyslider. The Skyslider. Soon after we bought it I had read on the Skyslider care instructions that you should not take it to an automatic car wash and that you should only hand wash your car to ensure it will remain in good shape. So me being the diligent good listener, I found a car wash that could do hand washing (our HOA will not allow car washing in driveways - we live in condos). Well, this is expensive, but seemed worth it to keep my new car looking and acting new. This did not seem to help with the latter, because about 5 months into owning my Jeep, my Skyslider went through it's first hard rain, and the leaking was apparent by the numerous stains all over the front of the canvas top on the inside. Now, perhaps easier to see because of it's light tan interior, it stuck out like a sore thumb reminding me of exactly how much money I had spent on hand washes ensuring that my skyslider roof would be at the top of its game for years to come, and here it was leaking. Mind-boggling.
I took it in to the dealer (the new one, for those paying attention to my other postings) and they fixed the leak by replacing the seal along the front. They also cleaned up the water stains on the inside of the canvas top. I was happy, and all was well with the world once more...until 2 months later when the stains magically appeared again. I must confess, that there were so many other things going on with the Jeep by this time I was overwhelmed and tired of being the 'complainer'. I really am not that customer. In fact, I was in an open air restaurant once, and found a bug (and not a small one) in my food, and ate around it...mind you, very carefully, but nevertheless without complaint. Things happen, and you cannot control everything, but at this point it was beginning to feel like it was all happening to my Jeep.

Round two of Skyslider leaking, I took it in to the dealer to have it looked at again. This time they could not locate the leak at the front of the Skyslider, but did say they found a leak at the passenger side window and replace the seal there. They once again cleaned up the canvas on the inside, although not as well as the first time, and sent me on my way. A few days later the water spots showed up again, same place on the canvas in the middle and toward the passenger side and only on the Skyslider portion of the interior. Ughhh. This is very disappointing.

I own a 2008 Jeep Liberty, bought (paid cash even) from Faricy in January. It is the Liberty you see in the ads with the skyslider roof. This roof is a great feature, like a convertible Jeep at the push of a button. Properly working it opens completely from the front or completely from the back. Last month my skyslider broke and opened crooked and got stuck. I promptly brought it to Faricy for repair. At first they speculated that it might just need an adjustment. Turns out a cable broke. So about 6 days later and $1200 poorer I can finally take my Jeep home. My skyslider was working great (as it should have been, hell at that cost it should be the KIT car....) Anyhow the next day I took it through the carwash and guess what, the skyslider was leaking. Evidently the service department tech had failed to ensure that the roof was weatherproof. A BIG mistake, this is Colorado we get torrential rain, wind and snow. I took it back in right away. It was there for a day before I was told that it needed "some minor adjustments" and that they were waiting on the "specialist" and I could pick it up the next day, at no cost to me (as it should be). The next day I picked it up, fresh from the Faricy wash. No more leaks. Good finally, I'm thinking and just in time for the weekends sunny forecast. Hooray! Well the cheering didn't last and I was back at Faricy on Monday. Seemed that the "specialist" did not adjust correctly and one side had more tension than the other which made my skyslider open crooked and get stuck. Needless to say, I was pretty heated when I had to bring it back once again. I had to leave it there again and was informed the next day that it would need a new track which cost $1500, I was livid. I told them that I would not be paying for any more parts because the past two issues were due to the negligence and faulty/poor workmanship of their service tech and they should repair the damage they caused at no cost to me. Furthermore, I questioned why all of a sudden it would need this $1500 track, the skyslider was working perfectly when I brought it in for the leaks. So obviously if a new track was necessary, it would be because the "specialist" or the service tech damaged the current track, although Helen Keller could see that fact clearly, Faricy did not. I was not about to give out money I didn't owe so I picked up my still damaged Jeep and have been trying to get justice ever since.
There's a few more points of interest to my saga. Both men that I dealt with in the service department (Micheal the rep and Aaron the dept mgr) were condescending and refused to hear my input about what the issue is with my skyslider and what it would take to repair. I mean obviously since I'm female I am totally ignorant and oblivious when it comes to such man things as car repair.....well sorry about their luck, had I been a customer whose satisfaction mattered they would have listened and discovered that I am a mechanic tech and additionally I had a private, certified, skilled and trained journeyman mechanic give me an assessment of what he thought. He said there is no reason to replace the track that is NOT the issue, which is what I had confirmed also. I mean even an average person could conclude be just looking that there is only one track. No matter which direction the skyslider is being opened from it is on the same track. Now with that said, my skyslider works perfectly when it is opened from the rear if the track was damaged the skyslider would NOT work from either direction because it is only ONE track. So as logic dictates, there is NOT a problem with the track at all. The problem exists because the skyslider was NOT adjusted, aligned, attached and tensioned evenly on BOTH sides. The "specialist" only adjusted one side to correct the leak issue and in doing so threw the alignment of my skyslider completely off which is what directly caused the issue that I am still dealing with. (FYI for better understanding, the skylslider works using a basic motorized cable and gear pulley system. In order for the skyslider to open evenly both sides must have the exact tension/resistance or one side moves faster causing the skyslider to jam.
I called Faricy and presented Aaron (dept mgr) with the question of why my Jeep needs a new track when it opens completely from the rear with no issues and I would gladly bring it back so he could see for himself. Aaron said he agreed with his tech, I need a new track, and there happens to be one in stock should I choose to have the repair done and he would even offer me parts at cost and a 10% discount. At this point I was dumbfounded as to why Aaron did not even want to see the rear functionality of my skyslider, evidently it seems he was trying to coerce me and effectively rob me by making me pay $1500 for something I do not need.
As it is, I am still driving around in a Jeep that is damaged, yet is still perfectly and fully operational from the rear. With my Jeep remaining in this condition and colder weather upon us, there is a serious safety concern looming on the horizon. When the weather is nice I have my skyslider opened to enjoy, but with the cooler weather that will not be the case. The problem is that because of Faricys failure to adjust my skylslider properly, leaving one side looser than the other, my skyslider will not stay tensioned down and closed on the loose side when I am driving. For example, I drove to Pueblo the other evening, it was chilly so the skyslider was closed. At 65mph on the highway the looser side opens about 3 inches. This will not only cause unnecessary wear on my skyslider, but it is dangerous and could potentially cause a horrific if not fatal accident on I-25. All it would take is that 3inch gap and a semi truck passing me at a greater rate of speed to create a wind gust strong enough to tear off my skyslider and create all kinds of havoc and who knows what else. Any injury, accident or fatality resulting from such an incident would be directly caused by Faricy due to their negligence and failure to properly repair my skyslider. I can only speculate that their negligence and failure is a result of their greed.
If I was a business owner I would deem it more logical to please the customer and treat them with respect. I would practice honesty and integrity and fix problems that I cause. Word of mouth is the best advertising. I would rather be known as having honesty and integrity, than be known as the business where greed killed innocent people. Not really a tough choice to make as I see it. I just want Faricy to fix the damage they caused, repair my skyslider (hell I already paid $1200 for that) and have concern for my safety, for everyone's safety. Each day is a new opportunity to do the right thing. I'm still hoping that Faricy will grasp that opportunity.

The sky slider is a mess. It's not even created with a convertible in mind, there is no seal it just sits on top on a track so if you go above, say 30 mph, it lifts up in the front. It also isn't insulated at all, so it takes a LOT to get and keep your car hot or cold. It's very loud, because Jeep didn't think to add a wind-deflector. It also isn't made for any kind of hot weather, the first summer day the glue melted and the canvas came unattached from the track. I had to drive over an hour to the nearest Jeep dealer that could fix it, and it took over a week but they had to replace the whole thing. The man also thought I was another lady, because someone else had just brought theirs in for the EXACT same issue. There was actually a facebook page for it, but I can't find it now so maybe it got shut down...
Anyway, thank God I'm leasing, otherwise I'd be PISSED if I was stuck buying this car.

In 2010 I bought what I thought was an absolutely family friendly vehicle that was fun and sporty. Overall our 2008 Jeep Liberty Sport Limited has been a reliable source of transportation. Unfortunately, after taking great care of our vehicle following all manufacturers instructions the sky slider is completely malfunctioning. It will not open, leaks, and makes a horrific grinding noise when attempting to open it. I was driving down the road, and all of the sudden the sky slider lifted off the tracks and folded back leaving wide open gaps. Not only did this cause me to swerve from the sudden atrocious noise of the sky slider pulling back, but almost caused a pile up on the highway.
I am very blessed that I didn't completely panic or wreck with my children in the vehicle with me. This malfunction is very dangerous, and honestly could cause a horrendous accident. I have called the dealership and of course this is not something they fix because according to them the parts are hard to find individually, and they would have to replace the whole sky slider which costs possibly a couple thousand. Also, the leakage caused by faulty sky slider not being properly sealed has caused significant water stains on the inside of the vehicle. Why has this significant safety issue not caused a recall? After reading all of the complaints I am astonished there has not been a class action law suit. Any updated on complaints would be great. Has anyone had this issue successfully fixed?
