Just got car 2 months ago (looked like new & ran well). On my way to hospital for appointment, I stopped at gas station for directions. I shut car off & went into store. Man gave me directions, I went outside, got back into car and turned it on... and nothing. The dashboard all lit up, no sounds, it just wouldn't start. I shut the car off... when all-of-a-sudden; a man ran up to my window knocking for me to "GET OUT, YOUR CAR IS ON FIRE!" I got out fast, man popped open my hood (because it was smoking so bad), he put it out by blowing on it /and smacking it with his heavy glove.
The unit was on the drivers' side next to battery, holds all the fuses, etc. 3 people came running to see if I was ok, but I was more ANGRY, than anything else. The man who came first said he knew exactly what was the problem. His brother had the same Jeep, and the same unit (TIMP or TIPM) did the same to his. He said Chrysler knew about this unit being faulty, they have a suit filing on it now, and he told me to report it. I am now doing so.
Something needs to be done. I was the lucky one, that the fire didn't continue and really kill someone. We have already lost our only son & daughter too young. I am really PISSED OFF NOW!!!!! How many people have to have issues before someone takes this seriously. And you all know it's "IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! Wake up auto manufactures, dealers, etc. (Only 2 month old Liberty Jeep Sport...) I am sick about this.
