The check engine light flashes (critical error - cylinder misfire) and my car vibrates/shakes whenever I accelerate or go up any incline on a highway. I went to see a certified mechanic today (in Michigan) and the mechanic said that the 3.7L engine has a design flaw that allows a large amount of carbon buildup in the cylinders, which leads to misfire issues. It will cost over $2,000 to repair this issue (12 hours worth of work - they have to take apart the cylinders and whole ignition/intake system, clean the parts, and replace gaskets). The mechanic says that my car is no longer safe for highway driving and can break down at any time. This car only has 104,000 miles. Jeep should not get away with such a horrible design flaw that will cause my car to break down.

When we drive to greatclip hair cut store from dollars store thru freeway, Jeep didn't warning anything that willing to break down, I started smelled little oil burn and we parked Jeep by greatclip to drop wife there and I turned engine to going and it's smell stronger burns. I checked it out that valve cover got cracked and little hole. I asked wife to start up and I saw a lot of oil come out of valve cover hole. We called tow to come pick up to avoid get engine seizures and I thought it's valve cover then I went to autozone to buy valve cover and gasket and went home to work on Jeep. I removed valve cover and found a rocker broke the metal of engine head in passages side. I heard a lot of people who work at dealership shop and other shop said all 3.7 liter V6 isn't good engine for Jeep because it's keep blew or problems. It's only 170,000 miles on engine. We just bought 2 months ago it's was good engine and run wonderful then it's broke down for no reason. I had older Jeep has never problems with me until this one caused me problems.

I have also replace 5 water pumps on this vehicle paying for 2 of them the others were done under the tsb from Chrysler. Daughter pulled out of driveway turned left onto street and immediately heard a loud noise and observed the entire dashboard instrumentation panel light up. Wipers came on, doors locked, engine cut off, alarm went off, wiper fluid started spraying and smoke started pouring from under the hood. Fortunately she was able to unlock the doors and get out of the vehicle. Electrical wiring was still smoking 45 minutes after the power finally drained from the battery. Tow truck refused to move the vehicle until a mechanic came to disconnect the battery. Local shop said all the electrical circuitry was burned up or compromised, including the wiring harnesses, ground wires, fused box, tipm, etc. Took vehicle to dealership where it was pronounced unfixable. Insurance company will not cover since fire damage was confined to electrical circuits and Jeep Chrysler sent an investigator to inspect the damage and compensation was denied.

I brought a Jeep Liberty wanting to try something new. I have been experiencing hell with this vehicle. I have only had it about 2 weeks took it to the dealer no one knows what's wrong because no lights stay on. I've taken it to aamco thinking they could tell me. They saw no problem. When driving this car for more than a hour the throttle light comes on the check engine light esp and it starts to shake like it will turn off. The lights always leave so the next day I have no proof. I have always had trucks and SUVS I will never buy another Jeep heating is also terrible. Changed heater core alternater radiator check transmission. Every now I'm drive this car blind not knowing what to expect because it has too many mystery's that shops don't know about this is the worst christmas gift I brought for myself

June 2 2015 approximately 54000 miles on vehicle purchased with 17,000 from Jeep dealership. Engine seized with out warning while in motion on way home from work. No smoke and no lights on dash to forewarn me. No coolant ever leaked on garage floor or anywhere at all. Repair cost 4,000 and nothing covered by Chrysler. Heater core replaced twice engine rebuilt and after repairs water pump was leaking. Had that replaced for free. Once agin having issues.

My 2010 Jeep Liberty sport went on fire. I was stopping at a stop sign and all of a sudden the car started to completely malfunction. The care shut off at the stop sign, the horn went off for about 5 minutes, the windsheild wippers went off, all of the doors locked and I saw smoke from the hood. I didnt know what to do and maybe after about 3 minutes of trying to get doors to unlock they finally did I got out and opened the hood and the whole hood was up in flames. Now its a total loss they are only paying off my loan and I am stuck with trying to come up with my own money to buy a new car now I think I should be entilted to a lawsuit I could of died if those doors did not end up unlocking. Every Jeep should be recalled.

2010 Jeep Liberty spontaneously caught on fire and exploded on Friday April 15, 2016. My stepdad and I were out and we stopped and picked up a pizza on the way home and everything was just fine the whole drive home, no smell, no driving issues, no smoke, no overheating dings, no funky sounds. We pulled into the driveway to park and turned off the car, my stepdad got out first, and when I opened my door I said 'ooh it smells like fall!' (I thought the neighbors were having a bonfire or something.) then I saw it and told him 'the car is smoking!' and I got out of the car and got away from it. He tried to open the hood thinking it was a radiator or something but it was so hot it burned his fingers and then he lifted it a bit with a screwdriver as we went to get the fire extinguisher and we saw the fire start shooting out of the sides. It was so hot and so fast. I screamed at him to get him away from it because I knew it was going to explode, and as soon as he was a bit away from it, the hood did explode up and then it started really shooting flames out and and that's when I called 911. There were several more explosions while we waited on the firefighters. It was totally engulfed in flames in 5 minutes. There is nothing left but a shell, and it was one layer from burning our house down. If we were in it another 60 seconds, we'd have taken that first explosion to the faces. We could have died and we almost lost our house, our barn and another car inside the barn. I'm furious. Other people could die.

Luckily for me, I was at my house when this happened, but the vehicle is not usable. I have heard where the engine has quit working on the highway for the same reason. The manufacturer knows about the problem but won't do anything.

I had original heater core replaced due to fogging of windshield, no heat and smell of antifreeze during Nov 2014 with approximately 48000 miles. Heater core went again. Started to hear rattle under car in May 2015. Set up to have Jeep looked over at a dealership. On the way to the dealer temp guage went up and back down the hot! engine seized. I had to pay over 4600 dollars to have engine rebuilt not replaced as well as heater control and heater core replaced. Chrysler is denying that there is a defect in the vehicle. There was never any sign of coolant leak on my garage floor

Coolant leak- took to carmax service in hillside, il for diagnosis informed that the coolant was leaking from water pump. Service consultant informed me that he spoke to a guy from jack phelan dealership in countryside, il and was informed that by searching my VIN number in there database that there is a recall on the water pump for my 2010 Jeep Liberty. States that coolant leaks from weep hole in water pump, was then informed that I can bring my vehicle in to be service at no charge because of this recall. Could not find any info online or NHTSA website so that's why I am filing a complaint so a recall can be administered to inform other Jeep Liberty owners of this issue.

During production of most Jeep models using the jr engines, there was an issue in the cooling system causing blockage of the heater core, radiator, engine block, thermostat, and/or water pump. The issue is well known by Jeep owners from mainly 2010-2012 Jeep, but Chrysler has refused to admit and fix the issue. The cause of the issue typically has been linked to either a) casting sand used in the production of the motor, or B) chemicals in the coolant developing a sand-like sludge. My experience has been two failed heater cores within 9 months of each other. The first incident occurred on 25dec2013 and was repaired 30dec2013 at 68,345 miles. On a trip away from home it failed again on 11sep2014 at 85,157 miles. On the most recent occurrence, when the heater core clogged and blew, the system blew hot steam into the cabin and coolant (around a temperature of 200) poured onto the passengers side floorboard. Luckily I did not have the heat vents turned to me or had a passenger at the time because I or my passenger would have likely been injured. The safety issued called into question due to the issue are a) burns resulting from failure of heater core, B) becoming stranded with no heat due to heater core or radiator failure, C) becoming stranded because of engine failure due to overheating caused by clogged cooling system.
