My car would not start one morning. Warranty would not cover it due to the no part to report. Cost me $500 dollars!

problem #1

May 282014

Patriot Limited 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,563 miles

During test drive after having tie rods replaced the car stalled and would not restart. Body shop tried to get codes but nothing would come up since there was no power to the engine. Had vehicle towed back to dealership on 5/28.

On 6/4/2014 received call from Tony at dealership saying that the battery had died and it would cost $267 and then they could proceed to see if that didn't fix the issue and that they could not proceed any further without a new battery. I paid for the battery and another diagnostic ($132 additional)

Update from Dec 29, 2014: Took car into a real mechanic and not the dealership. He inspected the car and found a lot of rust so he cleaned rust off of the all grounded wiring throughout the car. I had explained to him that my husband was able to get the car started after it stalled. My husband told him that he was sure the issue was in the steering column. The mechanic was able to verify that a fuse box located inside the steering column was loose and shorting out. He tightened this and made sure it was secure. Cost $200 I have been driving the vehicle now for 2 months with absolutely no random stalling
