I left Wisconsin on February 23rd to go to Mardi Gras. Second day of my journey I started to hear a whining noise as I shifted gears. I got to Gulfport Ms and took it to a transmission place they said it needs to be replaced. The cost would be $2470.90. Well not only am I stranded in Gulfport, I have to come up with all this money for a problem I'm hearing a lot about not. What do you do???????? My cats are alone back in Wisconsin an I don't know when I'm getting back.. So very frustrating Happy Mardi Gras to me....

I absolutely HATE my car. I have had it for little over a year and bought it as a used car. I can't stand this thing. I have had so many problems with my transmission and have had it towed more times then I can even remember. I have broken down on the side of the road because of the temperature of the transmission and then once I took it to my dealer in Quakertown/Pottstown they would say "well we don't seem to be finding the problem so heres your car." As soon as I get it back I break down a week later. I am so sick of this.
There is also this really obnoxious whining sound and I have no idea where it is coming from. I would NEVER recommend a Patriot to anyone. I love Jeeps but this has ruined my outlook on these cars. I have read from other sites that people have had these same problems and eventually their car has caught on fire? I am not waiting for that to happen at all.

Loved the car when purchased. About three months ago I noticed a high pitched whine in the engine. Initially thought it was something to do with the front end (bearings) since I had already replaced the struts, brakes rotors etc twice. Once under warranty, once out of my own pocket.
Took it to my mechanic and he informed me it was the transmission. Only solution was a new transmission (or good used if you could find one!) We have looked and one was available at a cost of $2900.00 US. He also felt that since we already had everything out might as well replace the clutch also. Total cost probably 4 to 5 thousand. He also stated that he had spoken to other mechanics who had tried rebuilding and they did not recommend it since they had nothing but problems after.
This is the worst car have ever purchased. Chrysler should be ashamed. Replacement will probably not even be domestic.

CVT transmissions are known for overheating and failing. Mine stared to Whir at 106,000kms.
Got a CVT fluid flush and change - they advertise the CVTs as being "serviceless" but beware and change it anyway. They say the "CVT fluid" costs $100.00 per quart. Expensive service.
Beware of the transmission thermostat also failing and causing overheating.
this has so far fixed the whirring issue, and i am 4000km later. Let's hope it's not just a band-aid to the issue.
Avoid these cars, so many problems.
