While driving after a rainstorm ..... I turn a corner and water starts pouring down on me. I immediately check the sunroof, which is completely dry. I realize the water is pouring out of the overhead light where the control switch is for the sunroof. I'm pretty discouraged since according to the majority of reports I've found on this problem, I can't seem to find a definitive solution. Most of the reports and complaints I've read regarding this problem indicate that they had to take the vehicle back to the dealer multiple times with no resolution. I will update after I am able to get it looked at.

Either the sunroof or roof racks leak water into the car's interior through the dome light after a heavy rain. I've heard this is a common problem. Jeep needs to find a solution and provide a fix for owners.

Sometimes after it rains, there is water that leaks from the lights above the center console. I don't think it has affected anything but it seems very odd. I have a sunroof but have not had it open during the rain or anytime before or after it rains. The water drips out of the lights but does not look like it has puddled up on the inside.

Ugh. This is a CONSTANT issue with this vehicle. I just found this website so I was unable to report every single time it happened. So far, I have had a leak 13 times. The first 3 times this occurred the dealership in which I purchased "Patrick" from was willing to take it in to "fix" it. Every time I brought it in they were not able to fix it they told me "it doesn't have a leak". FUNNY. I guess that means I'm pouring water all over my radio so I can cause myself a huge headache. I bought this Jeep from Kindle Auto Plaza. Now mind you, my family has purchased at least 15 cars from that dealership and we have never had a problem with them, now now they want to mess with me. After I purchased this vehicle from my family's dealer I went online and gave them an AMAZING review that I would never purchase a vehicle from anyone else. Well, let me tell you, if I could take back that review i would do it in a heart beat. It has been nothing but a headache with this car. I should have kept my 2004 Ford Focus. But this was a 2011 Jeep Patriot you think that everything will be perfect since it's a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW car, uh no. it's not.
Ok, the repairs...the first time i went in all they did was make sure the drains were clear, that was considered "fixing" the problem. The second time we went in, they replaced the sunroof. The third time, they did nothing. They basically told me "Emilie you're crazy this car does not have a leak"....so much for the customer is always right. So the 12th time it happened I decided to give a different dealership, Atlantic Chrysler. They actually cared and worked their tails off to fixed the problem. They had it under the shower for hours and hours but then they took it out in the rain storm the week they had it and SURPRISE it leaked! So they brought it back to the shower to see if they could pin point where it was coming from. They thought they found the problem...so they re-sealed the roof. However, the other day in Horsham, PA it had rained really heavy. By the time I got out of work it had stopped raining and when I got out to the car I was soooo excited that there was no water in the dome light. Well, I turned onto a road and when i stepped on the gas the water poured from the light....ughhhhhhh I called the dealership and we agreed that I would bring in the car once there is more rain in the forecast. the saga continues.
Oh and by the way, there may now be a recall on the Jeep since there have been a few cases of the engines stalling out on the Patriotwhen it goes 65+. Come on Chrysler get your sh*t together!!!!!!
If anyone knows how to fix this problem...this is my email...

I thought I was going crazy !!! As soon as I exited my driveway , I put the Jeep in Drive , and then the Front Dome light started peeing on me ! It was hot !! ---Now it did rain alot last night but my God !! It has rained plenty on my vehicles . Never had this happened before in my life !! And of course my warranty was up 4 thousand miles ago !! So God only knows what I am going to do since I am out of work and have NO MONEY To fix !! Was there a recall on this ?? I noticed other people complaining but on the 2008/09 Jeep models .This is BS!!! I also had to have my Jeep towed last week because it did not start . That is a whole other complaint I am going to write about after this complaint ! AGAIN-- All of the things that are going wrong with this vehicle are happening after my basic warranty ran out !! W.T.F.???!!!!

I have had the problem with the water leaking from the dome lights and it has not been fixed yet. I see that this has been a problem with the Jeep Patriots since 2008 and they have not been recalled. I have 2 very small grandchildren and I believe this is a safety hazard. This needs to be looked at before someone is seriously hurt or worse.

Well, I wouldn't ever recommend the vehicle or purchase one again as this is my second issue in 3 months of ownership.

I had my 2011 Jeep Patriot customized at Town and Country Jeep in Levittown New York. I paid $30,000 cash up front, no car note, to have this vehicle customized. When I initially bought the vehicle, there were a few droplets of water coming from the light. I took it to the dealership where I was met by the service guy who told me that it was just the car settling and there was no problem. They sent me on my way. Four years later we have torrential rains and when I went to my Jeep, water was pouring from the interior lights. My radio heating and AC units were both left inoperable.
I immediately called the dealer to find out what could be done. This was obviously some sort of manufacturers defect. The dealership was not helpful so I had to contact Chrysler's corporate headquarters for assistance. An appointment was made for me to bring the vehicle in on September 28. I brought the vehicle in and Jason, Service Department, told me that they would call me when the repairs were done. Within a week he stated that the leak was fixed and that I had to deal with Chrysler regarding the consequential costs for the radio and the heating/AC. I did that and Chrysler agreed to cover the cost. For weeks the dealership lied and stated that they were working on the issue as I continuously touched basis with Chrysler about my vehicle. Finally the truth came out when Jason, told Chrysler that I needed to pick up my vehicle or they were going to charge me storage fees because they were not willing to do the repairs without me paying up front. Since only a portion of the issues were fixed Chrysler made an appointment for me to take my Jeep to a different dealership for assistance. When I went to pick up my car on October 31st, my vehicle would not even start. Jimmy, in Service Department, was extremely nonchalant about the entire situation and just blew me off with a number for roadside assistance to have my vehicle towed. I was so upset. When I brought the vehicle in it was running perfectly, now one month later you present me with a receipt stating that the leak was repaired at no charge as a one time dealer good will but the car would not move. My husband came inside and firmly suggested that Jimmy has someone start my vehicle. My car was running fine when I brought it in so how could it just all of a sudden not be working? Once Jimmy realized my husband meant business, my car was running and out front 10 minutes later. When I got in my Jeep I was so upset, all of the lights on my dashboard was on and the vehicle would not go faster that 20 miles per hour. I barely made it to the dealership in Garden City, where my appointment was made to complete the repairs.
Garden City Jeep was so helpful. They told me that a Throttle Body was needed as well as the radio and heating/AC unit. Of course this was going to be more costly than the initially work because more damage was done since it was in the previous dealership. When they went to put in the new radio and heating/AC unit they determined that the water leakage was not repaired and that new equipment will only be damaged again if the leak is not repaired. At this point I called Jason at Town and Country and explained what I was told by Garden City. He told me that if I wanted the leak repaired correctly I would have to pay for it. Who tells a customer that? You presented me with a receipt stating that the leak was repaired and you really have done nothing. He then preceded to tell me that they were unwilling to fix the leak if I was not going to allow them to do the rest of the repairs...I hung up on Jason's unprofessional self and contacted Chrysler again and explained the situation. Chrysler went back and forth with them about the issue as well as other dealerships to see who could accommodate me and fix the leak.
No dealership in my entire state wanted to touch my vehicle. It's a dealership defect that no one wants to be responsible for the consequential damages. When asked what I could do, at this particular point my case manager at Chrysler was telling me that there was nothing more that could be done. What? I paid $30,000 cash for my vehicle and no one is willing to repair the truck and Chrysler is OK with that? Feeling defeated I went to retrieve my vehicle on Saturday November 21st and the heating/AC unit is not working and the interior is still leaking.
So here I go back to square one. It is just so unfair that I worked hard to save enough money to pay cash for my vehicle so that would not have a car note. Town and Country put in the extra money to get my money but they will not do their due diligence to repair what they did incorrectly. Jason and Jimmy are the worst service representatives in the history of dealerships. Neither one should be allowed to work with the public because they have no people skills. I don't understand how Chrysler knowingly is going to allow one of their dealerships to treat a customer so adversely and think that I am supposed to walk away being OK with that. Although my car is four years old I only had 31, 711 miles on the vehicle. That alone tells you that I did not drive it that often and took extremely good care of my truck. The car now smells from the stagnant water that is sitting in my car for over 2 months, I have been paying for car insurance and Sirius radio for two months that I have been without a car, they didn't even have the decency to give me a loner car so I have been relying on other people to get around and no one seems to care.
