A few months ago I replaced a faulty camshaft position sensor and things were fine up until now. This is likely unrelated, but out of nowhere, car has been unable to start. Engine cranks and never starts up. My battery is fine and there is gas in the tank. Tried to pull codes from check engine light but nothing came up (may be fault with code reader). As of now the vehicle is stranded in my driveway and I have been unable to take it anywhere to get it looked at. I noticed no warning signs before this happened. No check engine light was on until the issue started.

THE WORSE SH*T EVER! I purchased it pre-owned in September 2014 and had issues with is hard starting not long after I owned the vehicle. The weather was around 70 degrees so it wasn't cold outside yet. I get inside the Jeep and it hard cranks as if it doesn't want to start. I took it to the dealership numerous times and the cannot find the issue and Jeep claims they haven't received enough complaints on this issue. This has happened plenty of times after the first time. It is now March 29, 2015 and it has happened about six times this month and now it's starting to be close up together issues. A week ago it happened 3 days in a row and out of those 3 days it happened twice in one day.

If they can't detect this issue they need to swap out Jeeps for me because I won't pay for a faulty ride. Otherwise I will be taking either Jeep or the dealership to court. I would hate to do that but I feel screwed over based on this issue.This is scary because I fear it not starting one day.

It is a problem that started intermittently about three months ago. When you turn the ignition to start the car, nothing happens. There is no cranking no sounds of the starter but you can hear the buzzers and the appearance of all of the idiot lights. I turned the key two more times and nothing. Then, when I remove the key and return to ignition the car starts as if nothing was wrong. At that time I ignored the problem and thought it was just a fluke or some quirky thing that would go away. However, the problem began to occur more often and as of August 22, 2013 I am concerned that the car will get to the point of no starting. The car then would have to be towed since jumping the car is out of the question since the battery and starter checked out ok. I bought the 2011 Patriot that now has 38,250 and my wife just leased on 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport unlimited 6 Speed Manual from "Bill Volz of Westchester, NY" dealership. I have owned cars for over 40 years and never had a problem like this. The service department at Bill Volz was dismissive to my problem with the starting. They had the car for three days and all they could say is that they could not recreate the problem. They said they did not get a trouble code. I don't think they even looked at the car since they originally told me they would not be able to look at the car for several days. Ahh! customer service. There seems to be no such thing as a skilled troubleshooter. They will take your money and sell you a car but forget about service or trying to resolve a problem. So, unless they see a trouble code they cannot troubleshoot a car issue. I told the service manager and the person from Jeep at the 800 number that you would not get a trouble code if the engine light does not come on. It take mechanical no how and experience besides I thought the mechanics were trained to work on Jeeps don't they share service bulletins or get feedback from Jeep Forum? I notice now with the car when it does not start a red lightening icon on the left of the dash board illuminates for a few seconds, then the oil change light flashes, then, a low tire pressure light goes on for a few seconds and then finally the red security light on the right of the instrument panel lights up. You would think with all of those clues that someone in the mechanics field would be able to solve this issue. I don't understand how a dealership can stay in business when they maintain a service department that perpetuates incompetence. You would think with the amount of money they are charging for a car and then have a repeat customer just buy another Jeep before I had this problem with my 2011 Jeep Patriot. I have the evidence with the service invoices of no work performed and my smart phone videos clearly showing the unresolved issue of a car that will not start unless you go through the theatrics of pulling the key out of the ignition and hoping to God that it will start. I could have bought a junkers for thousands less and expect that kind of issue. What does it take for a corporate business who is trying to get a foothold on quality vehicles when there own people are disgracing their brand. Quality vehicles start with good customer service. I feel like I went in a time machine to the 70's when I was a teenager and had to deal with obnoxious incompetent service departments. The rule years ago was to never bring your vehicle back to the dealership for service. Not only would you get overcharged but they never fixed the problem anyway. The Jeep executives need to be aware of some of their service departments who could give less of a crap about their customers. They need to take the appropriate action and listen to their customers if they want their brand to survive. I like the Patriot but I will not tolerate an iffy start. It is not right and not fair.

I have a 2011 Jeep patriot that i have taken to the dealership about five times, due to a "starting" issue. I put the key in, and it continuously turns over and over and over and over (almost like an old dying car) until it decides to start. usually 5-7 seconds. the dealership cannot find anything wrong with it, because it has to happen in their presence for them to even understand what it is that i am talking about. (I've also lost power steering at one point, but that's another story). i have filed three lemon law claims and have a hearing coming up in august. anyone else out there also having this trouble??? i bought it brand new, one mile on it in august of 2011. this problem started occurring right around December of that same year. it has been a continuous problem to this day.

When I go to start my vehicle any given day at any given time during any weather condition... 3 out of 10 times my jeep will have a hard time starting. I turn the key and it cranks for about 8 seconds then it starts up really hard. I've taken it to the dealer multiple times... They say nothing is wrong. I bought this vehicle brand new 6months ago and I bought it for a total of 23000. My trade in value now is 13700... So I'm out about 10,000. I do not think so. How is that even fair?
