Patriot

  • CVT transmission
  • 150,000 miles

One month after buying pre-owned, engine shut off while going about 35 mph up a hill on way to work. Almost got rear-ended, blocked traffic, and in a panic ended up towing to work parking lot when I couldn't get the engine to restart. Later that day, car started perfectly fine and made it home. No problems until the following weekend, same thing happened but was able to get engine to start again after a few attempts.

Problem continued for the next couple weeks, happening completely randomly and with no warning putting my life and others in danger. Engine shut off while driving or wouldn't start right away.

Pulled camshaft position sensor, intermittent failure code off check engine light and replaced the part. It was fine after that.

Patriot SL

Driving on a busy highway with my daughter, my 2011 Jeep Patriot that I bought one month before stalled while I was driving. Cars were passing by me at 50 miles an hour. Could not restart right away. The engine would not turn over. Two young men pushed me to the side of the road. After about five minutes my car started and I drove home. I googled "problems with jeeps stalling while driving" and saw that there were many other instances of this problem. Why are dealers allowed to sell these cars knowing this problem? Does anyone know if Chrysler has acknowledged this problem? Is there a class action suit against Chrysler for this problem?
