This statement is exactly the same thing happening to my car word for word.

I have taken it to the dealership a number of times and because they can not reproduce it they say it doesn't exist. It happened as recently as two days ago. Its scary because I don't know if the brakes are going to fail or not.

Ever since buying my 2014 Jeep Patriot the brakes have been faulty. If I drive over a bumpy road and slowly press on my brakes to slow down it becomes very faulty and the pedal feels as if I am breaking through the ground. I have to quickly release, wait till I am on flat ground and press on the brakes again to have a better grip on braking. This also happened when I had to brake abruptly. The car overall is fine, it's just the brakes have been acting up since the beginning. And it doesn't matter if I'm on the freeway or in a residential area, I always need to be aware of this because it always happens. The Jeep has a manual transmission but I don't think that matters.

The dealership denies any problems. I just keep documenting.

I will never buy another Jeep or recommend one to anybody.

I purchased the car in November 2014, on the test drive, when I had to brake suddenly, the car made a grinding noise and the brakes pushed back as a staccato. The Sales person told me, that it was just the traction control. Stupid me, I believed him. I had Jeeps before and loved them, but of course they were built before Chrysler and Fiat got hold of them. I naively thought they would maintain the same standards. Regretting letting my X take my CJ5 right now as part of the divorce settlement.

Most of the time, the brakes seemed to work, though I did experience a couple of instances where the car seemed to accelerate, before the braking system kicked in. I live in an area where there is a lot of wild life, and I seem to be braking suddenly for Deer, Turkeys and skunks, as we live on the outskirts of a State Park on a curvy mountain road. During those times there was a lot of shuddering and several times when I thought I would not stop in time. So I made several attempts to have the dealer look at the brake system, but they were horribly booked up, so I ended up having my local tire company look at them, and each time there appeared to be nothing wrong, but it continued to get worse. I had experienced a random instance of brake failure, where they did not engage the first time I pressed the brake pedal, but did after I downshifted, and popped the clutch to stall the car, when I restarted, they seemed to work fine.

I kept trying to get an appointment with the dealer, and had an appointment to have them look at on April 1st, which I missed because I couldn't get the time off work(we were short handed that week) so I rescheduled the appointment for their next earliest day, which would have been today, May 8th,2016.

On Monday April 18th, I experienced a complete failure of the braking system, while traveling downhill on a twisty mountain road. I had been at a complete stop, not more than 250 yard earlier, while I waited for somebody to turn around and park in front of their home, and another to turn left in front of me from another road. Once mobile again, I rounded my first turn and was pointed down hill on a 45% grade, when I applied my brakes, I felt resistance, but it seemed to accelerate and the brakes did not engage. I tried downshifting into a lower gear, but I guess I panicked and couldn't get it into 2nd, in order to slow down to make the hairpin turn at the bottom of the slope. I was still standing on the brake pedal, which did NOT MOVE, when I hit the mail boxes, because I failed to make the turn, and fortunately came to rest on an oak tree, instead of plowing down a 100 foot cliff. The entire time, I was standing on the brake, wishing them to engage, but they did not. There are no skid marks., and I was pressed so far back in my seat, that not only did the airbags not touch me, I apparently broke the driver's seat.

The braking system seemed to work okay, for the tow guy, as he was able to drive my Jeep to place it on the carrier, after they pulled it up the embankment. I called Chrysler, and they sent someone out to inspect, and he found nothing wrong with the Master Cylinder, or the pads. When I asked if he'd checked the ABS sensor, he replied he was not at liberty to state, and that the report would be in the mail in a few days. Basically their report was inconclusive, and they are admitting no fault. Because the pedal never went to the floor, as it would if there was an issue with the Master Cylinder, I'm guessing it might have something to do with the ABS sensor? What else would cause it not to engage?

I consider myself lucky to have come out of it with only a scratch and a bruise on my left forearm. Still it sucks. I miss my Jeep, but I'm reluctant to purchase another one.

Three times now the brakes have failed when trying to stop. As I press on the brake at a light or to slow down the brakes make a rutty noise and the jeep accelerates, on the 12th of Feb, 2015 i was within inches of another vehicle by the time the brakes decided to work. In fact i had turned the wheel away from the car stopped in front of me because it didn't look as if it were going to stop. No ice on the roads, no rain, normal 30 mph speed. The brake pedal is still tight when i try to stop. I had the brakes looked at front and back twice, and the recall on the bracket was replaced.

There is something definitely wrong. I love the jeep but lacking in confidence to have my grand children in the car with me as one occasion when this happened they were in my car.

This has happened several times and have reported it to Neville Motors Jeep Dealership 3 times to date. they look, they find nothing out of place or wrong.
