The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that the vehicle was in drive and the key could be released from the ignition. The contact also stated that the rolled backwards and crashed into a fence. A police report was not filed. The front passenger sustained unknown injuries that did not require medical attention. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the ignition shifter fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,900.
