Patriot Sport 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 122,000 miles

I bought the Jeep with 72,000 miles as a “nice car.” I was wrong about that. at 122,000 miles Transmission failure was the last thing I was expecting. Was told by 3 separate companies that a rebuild is not an option and a remanufactured one was the only way I could go, Along side that, I am unaware if this is factual or not. But supposedly, the way these types of transmissions are made, they cannot be hooked up to any sort of systems to test them before they send them out, you are just supposed to hope for the best.

I was sent a total of 3 different transmissions over the course of a month and a half.

And even the last one still had an issue while shifting at 4,500 rpms but THIS issue isn't covered under warranty as the transmission is gauged to shift between 3,000 and 3,500? so if the noise happens between there then. I could get it fixed but until then, I just have to deal with a grinding noise from time to time. Again this is all just what I've been told.

Patriot Sport 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 99,000 miles

In 2015, I bought a 2014 Jeep Patriot Sport with around 44,000 miles on it from the Ford Store in Morgan Hill, California that supposedly went through their "100-point inspection." On the test-drive, I took it on the freeway but could not get up to freeway speed as I immediately hit Sunday stop-and-go traffic. I bought the car anyways with the three-day cooling off period that California law allows. On my drive home, I noticed a slight high-pitched noise in higher gear. It was not very loud and when I took it to my mechanic for an inspection the day after, he could not find anything wrong with the car. I continued to hear this slight sound at higher gears for the next four and a half years. Then, it became louder, a grinding groaning whine, and very clear that something was wrong. Yep, the transmission is going out and my options are a rebuild for $4000 or buy a new car! The manufacturer warranty has expired and I can't afford either option!

There's a lot of these Patriots out there in the used market, so don't be fooled by the low price. If you keep your cars for more than a few years, don't buy a Jeep Patriot, Compass, or Renegade unless you have a warranty. These are Fiats in Jeep's clothing.
