This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Jeep dealer.
2016 jeep patriot. when putting in reverse brakes squeal. did this with 10 miles, and still doing it at 3,100. dealer said all jeep patriots do this, nothing he can do, just cleaned dust. drove out of there with same problem. the dealer said that jeep uses drum brakes because its a cheap way to go. well i think jeep should be held responsible, there's no reason we have to have that squealing at all times. it's annoying.

What really sucks is that I know that the pads are probably fine, but when you hear a long squeak that usually means something is vibrating (on new clean brakes). So check the obvious - the shims. But no, my wife takes it to dealer and they say it is due to dust. Maybe, but a car wash would take care of that and it does not. I disassembled the brakes and the shims on one pad was in two parts (peeled top layer from bottom layer) and the other back brake's shim was partially separated. So I put a touch of caliper grease between the two and now no more squeaking. If you can't do this yourself - take to a regular brake shop and pay them a small fee to adjust the pads. Skip the hassle of the dealership, they will just frustrate you to no end. It only takes 2 min to remove the pads.

Brakes squeaked again, complained to the Service Manager, and he replaced the shoes.

Third time now that I've had to take it in to get the brakes cleaned. This is getting ridiculous. And then just a week or two after they do this cleaning, it will squeak again! I hate this car!

2nd time I've taken it in for brakes squeaking when in reverse, and I've only had the car 6 months. Irritating as hell. I told them it squeaked, and they said Patriot's are known for the squeaking brakes. Though...shouldn't that be something they fix? It's a brand new car! New cars are NOT supposed to squeak.

I told them there was a brake squeak when I reversed, and this started 2 weeks after I bought the car. They cleaned the brakes, seems to be okay.

I am so mad that my new Jeep Patriot has this awful screeching noise every time I hit the brakes. I have had it in the shop twice and they tell me that it is dust in the rotors and there is nothing that can be done to stop the noise. It sounds like I need to put brakes on it but they say they are fine. I should not have to put up with this noise on a new car . They told me that it is a flaw in the venting of the brakes and that I will have to live with it. I know that if this was their new car , they would hate it too.
