On Friday night, driving on interstate during rush hour traffic, when I shifted into 4th. Nothing happened, Just a low hum, and car started slowing down, Shifted back into third, nothing, then down shifted into second, nothing, Just coasting over to the shoulder which was very narrow and the car didn't get all the way on to shoulder. Put emergency lights on. Called AAA for tow and to call police. Meantime, cars, trucks and buses were whipping by at 70 mph, barely missing the car.

Incident response showed up and pushed Jeep nearly a mile down the freeway until a wider shoulder. Tow truck flat bed picked Jeep and me up and took to dealership. Car is 18 months old, bought brand new with 79 miles. I figured it was under warranty still. Monday afternoon the dealership contacted me to tell me it was the clutch disk that failed and unfortunately, it isn't covered under warranty anymore. Warranty was only 12,000 miles or 12 months.

I have had numerous manual shift cars in my 52 years of driving and this is only the second time I had to get a clutch replaced. The other one was a 1964 Chevy Impala SS convertible in 1969, which had 85,000 miles on it. What kind of crap clutch are they putting in this vehicles? No way should clutch go out in 16000 miles.
