  • 52,000 miles
Car shuts off and loses power at various speeds 1-65 miles per hour. When it loses power the power steering goes out and you better pull over fast or you wont be able to move the vehicle until you can get it to start back up. Sometimes it takes a while to start back up. This has been happening to me for 5 months now'. I've taken to the dealership 2 times and they keep telling me nothing is wrong... I never got notified of any recalls and they didnt even investigate to see if there was a recall on my Jeep Patriot the two times I've had it in. I am now having it towed to the dealership because it will not drive more than a few feet with constant shut down. It is dangerous. This happens at all speeds, up hill, down hill, flat, etc.

Vehicle loses power and ability to accelerate. This occured while driving on the interstate at 65 mph. Thankfully, I was able to get vehicle to side of road. Restarted and as driving home, vehicle tries to accelarate itself while car is idling. Had I not had my foot firmly on brake, it would have taken off. Took in for repairs and dealer states that throttle body is bad and this is a common problem on these vehicles. Advised that it was dangerous to drive as vehicle can lose power without warning.

The failure mileage was 89,280.. consumer stated engine shut off while driving. The 1st time consumer was driving 10mph in the engine shut off while shutting. Consumer immediately hit the brakes. One week later, while driving at 55mph consumer pressed the accelerator slightly and immediately the engine shut off. For several months it has been increasingly hard to keep my vehicle running/in motion when going up steep hills or gradients on all roadways. I took it to a mechanic. He replaced the alternator. The problem continues to get worse. The vehicle can be driven. Sometimes I can ease my foot off the accelerator or restart and the warning light will go off and not come back on. Now the warning lights have started flashing. Sometimes the vehicle starts shaking as though its going to quit running. I have been pulling off the road, turning on flashers and turning off the engine. After a minute I restart the engine and hopefully move on down the road. It's so bad now I'm afraid to drive but it's the only Transport we have. I had a diagnostic done and was told it was a camshaft sensor. L looked this up to find out more about it. I found a website that said there was a crankshaft/camshaft recall on the make, model, and and year of my vehicle. The description of the problem the recalled vehicles were having was the same as mine. So I called my dealership service department to discuss this recall to see if they would fix my vehicle. They ran my V.I.N. number and I was told there was no recall on it. They want me to bring it in for a another diagnostic scan. I asked them to give me a guess as to how much it will cost me. I haven't heard from them yet. I don't understand why the V.I.N. makes a difference since my vehicle is the same make, model, and year as ones on recall. I think there should further investigation into other vehicles having this problem. I know of one other person, with same vehicle as mine, who said their vehicle has been acting like mine. I have no other Transport. I am worried about others and myself driving a vehicle with this problem. I'm afraid someone will have a wreck. Please investigate this further.

While driving on a residential road my car stopped without indication, I pressed on the pedal but it wouldn't go. I turned off the car and restarted it right away and it came back on. The next time it was on the highway, everything on the car was still running but the gas pedal wouldn't do anything and it just stopped. I tried restarting the car but it wouldn't turn back on. The car made a loud stuttering noise like it wanted to start but it wouldn't turn on. All the lights on the dash flickered off and on the whole time while trying to restart it. I was finally able to get it back on after about 2-3 minutes of trying to restart it. I found a recall on the crankshaft sensor which causes the engine to stall but I checked my VIN and it shows that there isn't a recall associated with my VIN. The recall with Chrysler is S89.

When driving on the highway, my Jeep instantly turned off with no indication that there was something wrong; no indication of lights or warning issues presented just a loss of complete power. Brakes were hard to push and the power steering was lost as well making it very difficult to control while the car slowed down from going 50 mph. I was luckily in the far right lane when it happened making it easier to pull off to safety for myself and for everyone else behind me. Once stopped, I turned the car back on and all it did was make a sputtering like noise, but never turned on. I waited 5 minutes and tried to start it again and the car turned on this time, but roughly 30 seconds later it just turned off again with no warning. I found a recall on the crankshaft sensor which causes the engine to stall, but when entering my VIN it shows that there is no recall on my car's VIN. This recall needs to be opened up for other VIN's. the recall with Chrysler is S89. This is a huge safety issue!

While driving, the check engine light, the electronic throttle sensor light and the ABS light came on. As a result, the engine loses power, the transmission is choppy and I cant drive faster than 20-30 miles per hour. If I turn the car off and restart, the sensor light and ABS light goes off, the check engine light stays on and the car runs normal. After five minutes, the aforementioned lights come back on and the engine returns to its subnormal running conditions. There is no specific explanation for this problem and according to Jeep's forums, it is a common problem among all Jeep models.

My car was parked at home in parking lot. I used car earlier during the morning and had no problems with it. During the afternoon I went outside to crank car and it started with no problems. I then realized I forgot something in my home and turned car off took key out the ignition and went to retrieve what I had forgotten. I came back out not even 30 seconds, attempted to crank car and the dash board lights, ac came on, but car would not crank. It made no noise to indicate it was trying to turn over nothing. After trying a few times I called geico to have someone come out to possibly jump start the car, but that person tested the battery, oil, alternator, and started and said none of them were a problem. I then ordered a tow truck thru geico, he arrived about an hour later and he immediately sat in vehicle and car cranked with no problems. The engine light on dash also disappeared. The next day I took the vehicle to have it checked again and I have a print out that shows that neither the battery, starter, alternator or engine oil were a factor. I haven't had any other issues with the car cranking since that day. No one seems to know why it would not start.

I am driving the Jeep is on the highway, doing 60 mph one week after I had bought the Jeep in May 2016 and it automatically started going faster on it's own, with the RPM indicator going clockwise. It would not slow down on its own so I had to drive to the access road and put emergency brake on. Once I was able to start the vehicle again it reset itself and performed normally. This has occurred 5 times since I have owned it, including July 25, 2018 when it happened again last week. Last year I had it checked and was told a sensor light was out, so they "fixed" it. It is still happening. The dashboard indicators are constantly flashing. They told me they reset them also. It is still occurring, also

Two things are wrong with my Jeep and have been since the first week I've had it, but the newport power dealer keeps telling me that "if there ever was anything wrong with the car, it fixed itself". bs nothing is fixed! so the first thing is the safety seatbelt sensor's. when I have a passenger up front and they're buckled up it keeps beeping saying that they're not buckled up. Doesn't happen every time I have a passenger but it's super annoying and happens mostly while driving in town. The second thing is that since the first week I've had the Jeep, the engine keeps stalling and other times acts like it's going to die but doesn't. ( newport power dealer told me this issue was due to poor gas mixtures during different times of the year. I'm not stupid and know that's not the issue, I have three other cars that do not do this at all!) the car stalls so far only while stopped at lights, in driveway's, drive through etc. This happens multiple times a week. While driving either in town, turning corners, driving straight or on the highway, the Jeep acts as if it's going to die. This happens frequently while driving. Also my back windshield has been leaking since I got the car but the power deler says it's fine. I'm very tired of hearing bs from the power dealer here in newport Oregon, I have an extended warranty and I think they just don't want to honor it! these issues have been happening since I bought the car in 2016 to today in 2018.
