Renegade

  • 13,400 miles
Premature clutch failure. Vehicle has 13400 miles. Under normal driving conditions at highway speed (65mph, 6th gear) cruise control became disabled, and service engine light illuminated. Along with several other service warnings such as service ABS, 4WD, parking brake, ecs. Vehicle lost most forward power, but was still able to safely operate due to the vehicles "limp mode". under "limp mode" vehicle still operated normaly with no indication of mechanical problems, after a few miles, all warning and service engine lights disappeared and normal driving resumed, had full acceleration power, and no issues. Presumed it was a computer malfunction and it corrected it self. Continued to drive to destination, after 30 miles vehicle lost forward power, and service and warning indicators re-appeared. Was unable to disengage the clutch to properly stop vehicle and or shift into neutral. Vehicle was stuck in gear and no matter how hard I pressed on the brake it would not stop the vehicle completely, vehicle would be nearly at a complete stop but would buck and jolt, until I manually shut the vehicle off. Vehicle did require a tow service and would not start afterwards. There was no indication that the clutch was slipping or failed during driving nor had it experienced any issue in the previous trips, (ie, smoke, burnt smell, bucking or jolting, rattles) only indication I experienced was the no forward power, unable to shift, and stop properly when the failure occurred. If the clutched failed catastrophically with no prior warning signs, it may have caused an accident due to possible locking of the engine and transmission with no way to disengage, resulting in unable to effectively stop the vehicle. It could also seize the engine and transmission, resulting in a sudden uncontrolled stop.

Multiple issues since I purchased new. Dealer confirmed computer sending codes to transmission causing it to not shift properly. At times, you could not accelerate or extremely low gas mileage. On an interstate going up and down mountains with 18-wheelers, this is terrifying. All lights shutting off randomly including headlights, brakes, blinkers, dash, etc while driving down the road. The worst issue is I have had is the doors locking my child in. I put him in the vehicle as normal, when I went around to get in, all the doors had locked and would not open. The police busted a window to get him out. After confirmed he was ok, I went out to see what was going on with the vehicle. The dash was blinking a message and the locks were still acting up. After cranking, everything returned to normal. Updated 9/12/18

When driving my vehicle September 29 2017. My 1.3 year old Renegades check engine light turned on. Called to make appointment immediately with dealer. 5 minutes later the the temperature spiked in about 1 second to around 265 degrees. The temperature gauge gave no indication of a rising temperature and literally shot up. The radiator cooling fan locked up. Part is on national backorder don't know when it will get repaired and dont know how much engine damage has occurred. Seems to be a national issue as there are other Renegades that have been waiting for months for the same parts and have been at dealership for months. Wish Jeep would give me a refund as vehicle only gas 11800 miles and potentially gas catasprophic damage. Should be a recall and fav should buy vehicle back. Temperature gauge was useless as it only shows the level at normal and from one degree to the next shot to max. Once it went down a few degrees. Dropped backed down to normal range even though was still in 260 degree range. Faulty and unreliable. Most likely fcs will say engine is fine then it will break die due to warped or cracked cylinder or head gasket. Vehicle was in motion on a city street in semi steady traffic. Going in a straight line

Cooling fan assembly stopped functioning and caused smoking and loud noise from under the hood accompanied by a strong chemical or burning smell. This happened while stopped at a traffic light. Immediately pulled to the side of road and turned car off. No leaking fluid noted beneath vehicle. Car turned back on and the check engine light then came on. Part is back ordered with no date. Per dealership, not under warranty and dangerous to drive. No loaner car offered.

1. trunk lid does not stay latched. Some series of opening and closing different doors typically rectifies issue. Multiple witnesses. Intermittent. No pattern. 2. vehicle stalls intermittently when making tight turns into traffic (heavy construction at my complex's only entrance/exit). Vehicle also 'turns off' despite it being in 'drive' and moving--I receive a message stating to put foot on brake and push button to start vehicle despite it being in drive and moving. This means I have to stop the car in angry traffic, put my foot on the brake, move shift to park and then restart a vehicle that was already running. At least three software updates have been supposedly installed along with a module on separate occasions. The last incident, four horns blared at me and one vehicle hit my back driver quarter panel/bumper. No one stopped. They just drove around me. I did not file a police report. I called the dealer (again) and had to drive quite a distance (again) for them to look it over, (again). Note: I no longer live near that dealership. The Renegade scares me-- terrifies me at times. I am no longer getting responses from Chrysler regarding the ticket number. No one will drive in my vehicle with me. The 'stalling' issue is primarily on intermittent right turns. Since the last software update, turning left is now becoming an intermittent problem. This last time I took it in, the service man touched up the red paint from my being hit, but did nothing about the scratches. So I am going to have to file a claim because of a faulty vehicle having 'computer errors.' According to the service manager the vehicle was not designed to provide issue codes, yet they keep putting software updates. Vehicle often feels like the brake is partially set or running in a low gear. Sometimes I must put my foot literally to the floor to get up to speed. Issues started the first week I got

While driving my 2016 Jeep Renegade trailhawk on a city street it began accelerating rapidly on its own. I began engaging the brakes to try to slow the vehicle initially and the engine continued to the point of redline. I attempted to shift the car into neutral but the command center kept overriding my input; I was finally able to jam the car into neutral by slamming the palm of my hand into the shifter driving forcing the neutral shift. I was able to pull off to the should of the road where the car continued running at redline for several minutes while I attempted to stomp on the accelerator hoping to get the vehicle to disengage. Due to the electronic controls you cannot turn the car off while in neutral and the engine running at such high rpms. After roughly 10 attempts at stomping on the accelerator hoping to get the vehicle to respond it dropped to a standard idle. Only being a short distance from my neighborhood at the time of incident I limped the car back home. During that time the traction control light began flashing, the battery light came on, the temp sensor spiked to max temp, the oil pressure warning light came on and the A/C began to blow hot and the engine light came on. Upon safely pulling in my driveway it smelled of a hot burning rubber/oil smell and there was some type of fluid leaking from the car that appeared to be the synthetic oil.

The vehicle has a 3 second delay when stepping on the gas pedal before it actually executes on downshifting and accelerating the vehicle. The vehicle has an automatic transmission. The delay is only when the vehicle is in motion stepping on the gas pedal from 0 mph will not reproduce the issue. I addressed the issue with Jeep they performed a firmware update then stated they were unable to reproduce the issue however I do not believe they actually tested driving the car. The vehicle used to have the same issue from stationary until the Jeep dealership performed a firmware update on the vehicle now the delay is only when the vehicle is in motion. This is how it goes: When I step on gas pedal @1 Mississippi - nothing happens @2 Mississippi - nothing happens @3 - I hear the car rpms increase - @Mississippi - transmission responds and vehicle executes accelerate function. This happens every time with out failure that the gas pedal is pressed all the way to the floor "pedal to the metal" so to speak when the vehicle is in motion.

Electrical. Service 4X4 reoccuring. Dealer can't figure out. 4X4 not working when light is on. Whole dash board lit up today and prompted 4X4 service then just went to service 4X4( as in picture below)randomly turns on and off with seemingly no rhyme or reason. Was in dealer 8 days last week. Got back couple days ago, going into dealer next week to see if they can figure out, again. Prob lose Jeep for couple more days. Jeep sees more of dealer than my own garage. They have given rental each time which I applaud since is under warranty and less than 1 yr old but I have a dog and obligations so makes very inconvenient.

The vehicle with only 340 miles electrical system went completely haywire with all the warning lights and displays going off and the transmission disengaging, right in the middle of a busy intersection. Very dangerous. Had to turn off, move gear shift back and forth, then start car and get transmission to move off the road. Warning lights take turns going off and usually following the airbag warning the transmission disengages. Dangerous!

Incident with new 2016 Jeep Renegade resulting in an accident. I was slowly pulling in a parking spacewhen the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own and I was unable to bring the vehicle to a stop before itwent overthe parking curb and hit the side of the restaurant. I contactedjeep roadside assistance on Monday morning 11/21/16 to have it towed to capitol city Jeep in jefferson city. I explained the acceleration incident.I contacted my insurance company (aaa - policy number A4-150117-1; claim # PA1401055). I contacted national Jeep customer assistance that morning, explained the incident, and was assigned a case file number (30543876). That same afternoon, the service technician at the dealership contacted my cell phone and left a message (which I have retained), stating they had installed several flash updates to correct the acceleration. The vehicle damage was $862.my insurance adjuster was told by the dealership that the flashupdates that were installed had nothing to do with acceleration issues. These were two conflicting results entirely.Mr. Peyton contacted me next on 11/30/16and said he had been to look at the vehicle (he did not notify me when he was going, as he had said he would). He asked me the date and time of the accident, if there were any injuries (no), any passengers (no), any property damage (4500) and my insurance company (aaa). He also asked me my preferred outcome - and I said to have a full refund since the vehicle only had 630 miles on it and for Jeep to cover damage to the vehicle ($862), associatedproperty damage in my subsequent research on the 2015 and 2016 Jeep Renegade, I found a high volume of complaints with transmission/power train problems, including several sudden acceleration events.this is a very dangerous situation for Jeep. Received letter from Jeep 12/1216 - no acknowledgment of defective parts.

Vehicle loses power during turning operations. When making a left or a right turn on dry pavement, the traction control light illuminates and the vehicle loses power. When I initially took the vehicle into the dealer the issue was only occurring during left turns. Dealer did a PCM software update and now the problem occurs during right and left turns. I have come disturbing close to being hit while losing power mid turn. I and others are having the same issue. This needs to be addressed before someone gets seriously injured or killed. Car was brand new when problem started.

  • 420 miles
Brand new two week old 2016 Jeep Renegade with 400 miles. Twice today while pulling out from a stop making a left turn complete loss of power and traction control light lit up. Street was a paved asphalt city road. About 2-3 seconds of no power until power returned. It was 65 degrees and sunny. Not wet or gravel. No wheel slippage. Within an hour I researched this issue and immediately saw several complaints same issue. I called Jeep customer service and explained the situation and asked if there had been any reports of this issue or resolutions to the problem. The customer service rep denied having any complaints or record of this issue. Next stop will be the dealer. I have been unable to re-create the issue but again it just started today. This is a very dangerous issue and seems to be happening to many other customers.

Brand new vehicle at under 5000 miles - while making a U-turn, the vehicle's traction control engaged and there was a complete loss of acceleration and power. The traction control light went off on its own about 4-5 seconds after the U-turn and acceleration power returned. The vehicle was in motion the whole time on a well-paved city street and road conditions were flat with no roadway debris and no adverse weather conditions.
