Renegade Sport

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,292 miles

I drove to work on the 9th and left to travel, and returned to work on the 10th. That night the lights for parking brake, airbag and seat belt came on again, with the same messages for service airbag system and parking brake system. Tried shutting Jeep off 2 different times, the crap never went off, so I drove home with them on.

I had a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT that I put 85,000 miles on. Never once did I have any sort of warning light come on and I never paid a penny for repairs (aside for regular wear and tear - tires, brakes, etc.). I thought it might be time for a new vehicle, because I was worried that with higher miles, some costly repairs would be in my future. I had fallen in love with the Jeep Renegade, I loved the looks, the tech packages seemed awesome, and it would be better on gas, so I jumped right in. WHAT A MISTAKE.

We drove it from NC to FL, and from NC to NY, with no real issues. One day on my way to a dentist appointment, the car overheated. I contacted the dealership to have it towed to the shop. Was told by the shop there was a "manufacturing defect" in the head gasket, which lead to a nasty sludge in the engine and cooling systems. I had had the Jeep in the shop three days before this for its normal service, and an oil change. Now, I'm not a mechanic, but I was taught how to change my own oil, and brakes as a young boy. My dad always taught me to check the oil that comes out of the car for any inconsistencies. If the dealer had ACTUALLY serviced the Jeep completely they would have had to see inconsistencies in the oil, as well as the BROWN coolant, right?

The solution was to do a complete engine replacement at 10,000 miles. Cool. I left my Jeep at the dealer for 4 weeks. While it was there, I asked them to check the hood latch. When I started the Jeep with the fob and then unlocked the doors, it would cut the engine and display a message that says "Remote state cancelled, hood open". When I got my Jeep back after a month in the shop, it did the same thing. No change. Sweet.

I decided I would live with it until my next service appointment. A few weeks ago, just a few months after the engine replacement, all sorts of error messages are popping up in the control center. "Service Airbag" and "Service Parking Brake" are displayed every time I get in. An now, while driving down the road (with no passengers, and no items in the passenger seat) the Jeep dings constantly like there is someone sitting in the passenger seat without their seat belt on. The dinging was constant for my 13mi commute to work. I am SO OVER the Chrysler products. Help me get out!

Renegade Limited 2.4L

So many electrical problems with MANY ERROR messages appearing on the dashboard. It showed Air Bag Malfunction, Electric Parking Brake Malfunction, Computer Malfunction on more than 5 occasions and at different speeds, different weather conditions too. Been to the shop about 4-5 times now and 2 different dealerships. This last visit they had the car for 3 days and said it needed a lot of Computer Updates. But I had it in the shop at a different dealership just 1 week prior. Was this actually done? Who knows. Lets see if it happens again. This could be a deadly situation if not repaired.

Good Grief!!! How many things can go wrong with a car at one time???

1) Check engine light on 2) Check AWD light on 3) Car can start without FOB (button start) 4) Blasting heat at 70 degrees 5) Heated steering wheel went on 6) Heated seats went on 7) Parking lights stay on 8) Dash lights stay on 9) Engine hot after 9 mile ride 10) Idling rough 11) Car does not want to shut off

Update from Oct 1, 2016: One nine mile drive and a week in the shop again! I started the car and 10 lights came on, the a/c didn't work and I had no speedometer. My original premise of a bad module was correct, but technicians couldn't get it to read correctly. The dealer gave me a nice loaner, but I cringe every time I start the car now...avoid Renegade!

Renegade Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 400 miles

Purchased this vehicle 2 weeks ago. Took it in to get a second key fob made and was told several software updates were needed. After they attempted to do that, the radio software update did not complete, leaving the radio/navigation system totally useless. I drove it home that evening and got an alert that the the electronic parking system needed service. I returned to the dealership the next day to leave the vehicle to hopefully get a whole new radio and while driving to the dealership, the airbag service alert came on, along with something called the ECS system needing service. I told the service advisor about all of this and told him I was not at all happy about all these issues with only 400 miles on the vehicle. I don't have the final diagnosis from the dealership yet, but once I do I will update the complaint with any followup information. Needless to say I am very uneasy after reading about other complaints with the electrical system. This may be the shortest time I have ever owned a vehicle. Not feeling confident at all.

Update from Feb 1, 2017: Sorry for not updating earlier. I took it in and they completely replaced the radio with a new one and that solved all my electrical issues. It had to be in the shop for several days as they had to order the radio, but they supplied me with a loner vehicle and the radio was, of course, under warranty, so I owed nothing. The vehicle now has over 3,000 miles on it and I haven't experienced any significant electrical issues to-date. The only small issue is once in a great while when starting the vehicle sometimes something will send an alert that it isn't working, but that can just be that it hasn't made a complete circuit so I just turn off the car, wait a minute and start it again and it usually clears the issue. I am satisfied at this point, but if any other issues arise I will update my complaint.
