Renegade Trail Hawk 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

We bought this 2016 Jeep Renegade brand new from the dealership. It now burns oil - every 1,000 miles it uses 1 quart. The dealership is trying to tell me that it's normal to consume a quart of oil every 2,000 miles. I told them I didn't buy a new car to keep putting oil in it. They are in the process of conducting a consumption test. Every 500 miles I bring it in and they put oil in it. This started with 30,000 miles. Not happy with the engine. It has no power getting on the highway. Also, I'm paying for synthetic oil. It's not suppose to break down after 500 miles. Only the dealership has serviced this car. I know down the road we are going to have a fight on our hands to get this problem resolved. NOT HAPPY.

Renegade SuperDuty 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,800 miles

I thought I had an oil pan leak, or an oil leak. This is unacceptable. I had to add 4 quarts of oil after driving a total of 1000 miles. First I was a quart low, so I added a quart. Then I drove 140 miles and I was almost 2 quarts low. Then I drove 140 miles and I was a quart low. I hope there is a recall and Jeep or whoever is responsible fixes this.

Engine has used about a quart of oil every 800 miles or so driven ever since we bought it used, with 34,000 miles on it. The vehicle is basically new with such low mileage. Have been told that this extreme oil consumption is "normal" for this vehicle. Absolutely ridiculous!

Renegade Latitude 1.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 67,000 miles

Jeep does not take care of their customer in all fairness.  I purchase a 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude back in November 2016 at Suresky in Goshen NY.  In the beginning of 2018 I started getting an issue with my car. I had oil consumption issue. Engine light would come on and the car would feel like as if it’s going to shutdown. Every time I would take to get my oil change, the mechanic would tell me that I have barely have any oil. So I took it to where I purchase the car and explained to them that my issues are with my car.

So they did their inspection and testing and at the end they told me that the oil consumption was normal. Mind you I had 45,995 miles and still under warranty.  April 29 2019 my car started blowing white smoke out of my tailpipe. Was unable to drive the vehicle home. Following day I took it to the nearest Jeep dealer around my job Croton Auto Park, Croton on Hudson, NY. They did a diagnostic and found #3 cylinder misfires, all my spark plugs are full of oil, a piece of spark plug was found inside the engine and a piece of the piston was to found inside the engine.

I called the Jeep FCA opened a case. One of the representatives that helped me open my case told me that my issue with my car was common. She has handled a few of the same issues. The service Manager at the Croton Auto Park also told me that these are very common with the model of my car.  I was told that to fix the car it would cost $12,000.00 and the Jeep were only willing to pay $8000 and I have to come up with the other $4000 out of pocket.

Now I am 67,000 miles (7000) over the warranty and was told that this is they’re last offer.  I believe that I should not have to pay for any of this because if this was addressed when I brought it in the day that I was still covered under warranty and below the mileage I wouldn’t need to pay anything.  This is a manufacture defect a 2 1/2 year old car having this kind of issues is unheard of. I provided proof of maintenance records.

I am a loyal customer with Jeep. I had a 2003 and 2008Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2016 Jeep Wrangler and now 2018 Jeep Renegade Latitude.  I have never had a bad experience with Jeep till now. This is the worst experience I ever had.  I am going to continue to post all this in all social media until I am heard and acknowledge.

Renegade Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

I bought a 2016 Jeep Renegade in FEB of 2017. The first year and a half I had no problems with the oil consumption. I could go 7000 miles with no problems on an oil change. But then all of a sudden, I can't even go 2500 miles on an oil change. My car starts seizing up, stalling, giving all kinds of error codes (low oil pressure, electrical symbol flashes, oil light comes on) and it won't let me go over 30-40 miles per hour. I had an oil consumption test done on it and they said it was within Chrysler's specifications of oil consumption, but it was right on the edge of the specification. Their specification is 1 quart every 750 miles. That is insane and set very high just so they don't have to do any repairs!!! Why would my Jeep work fine, but then all of a sudden it does not? That means that something has broken inside my engine (after research, it's probably bad/faulty piston/piston rings). It is not normal! I hate Jeep now, and I really hate Chrysler. Piece of crap engine. This isn't my first car I've ever owned, so when the service technicians at Jeep say that is normal oil consumption I know that they are lying through their teeth.

Why are car companies making crappy engines then setting ridiculous specs/guidelines so that they don't have to repair them?

Renegade TrailHawk 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,000 miles

Within 16,000 miles our Jeep has burned 6 quarts of oil. In the last 5,000 miles it has gone through 2 quarts of oil. Today it is at the dealership where I was told this is 100% normal. The service advisers immediate told me that GM's burn much more oil and began a rant telling me everyone has this issue. I told them I am part of everyone and this is the first of 10 vehicles I have owned that has burned oil - after this I was totally ignored and told that an oil consumption test would NOT be performed. I can't wait to sell this vehicle and buy anything other than a Jeep / Chrysler product at this point; even if it was just a 2.4L engine issue that should be known so others don't write off the entire company.

Renegade Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 11,500 miles

At approximately 11,000 miles my car stalled in the middle of the street after driving it for about a minute. Didn't think anything of it. It happened again a few days later. Then when I would turn the Low Oil Pressure light would flash on. I brought it to the dealership to get my required oil change (came in at mileage lower than what was required) and advised them of the stalling and low oil pressure light coming on. They told me that there was no oil in my car at all. I said "that's weird why would there be no oil". They told me to start coming in at 4,000 miles instead of 5,000. I said why is a brand new car burning so much oil. Their response was well a car is expected to burn about 1 quart every 1,200 miles. I said that's insane for a brand new car. From that oil change to the next my husband had to put in over 6 quarts of oil because it's burning excessively and my husband said I have white smoke coming from the tail pipe. I again called Jeep and brought it in. They me they are doing an oil consumption test because they cannot see any oil leaking out of car and of course did not see any white smoke. Now I have to bring it back at 500 miles and see what happens. I have a feeling they will not find anything wrong with it.

The problem is is that there are no warning that my oil is low. NO low oil light comes on. The only warning I get is when I'm driving and my car just stalls out. What if I'm driving on the highway with my 2 year old son and my car just shuts off???? How is this not being rectified? I didn't buy a new car just to keep through oil in it and hoping that it doesn't just stall out or blow the engine. This is a responsbility of Jeep and should be fixed!

Renegade Limited

  • Manual transmission
  • 5,870 miles

The renegade burns through oil rapidly quarts and quarts in less than 5870 miles, and without any warning (or censor lights telling you to add oil or change the oil) the auto just stops and will not restart or will after 20 tries and a half hour. As in parked and will not start or ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING ALONG AT 70 MPH AND IT JUST STOPS DEAD!!

The solution from the Chrysler manual / website the service department at the jeep dealership gave to me is to change the oil every 3000 miles and to CHECK THE OIL EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK!!!

Don't you think when a brand new jeep with less than 6000 miles and the 2nd payment has not been paid on a car should NOT be unable to start OR eating oil and with NO SOLUTION!

When a certain number of jeeps shut off while driving on a highway and someone is killed then maybe they will try to come up with a solution!!!

Renegade LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,779 miles

We bought a brand new Jeep Renegade on July 5, 2016 for $24,368. About two weeks into owning the vehicle, we had to put a quart of oil in it. I just thought that maybe the dealership did not fill the oil before we bought it.

The next month, when checking the oil, it was down again. I put another quart of oil in the vehicle. This time I thought it must have to do with the break in period – given that it is a brand new vehicle.

Then, in the third month, we were out driving on some back roads when the vehicle flashed “low oil pressure” three quick times (within a minute) and then just simply froze up in the middle of the road. Luckily there wasn’t traffic around us at the time. We ended up putting in one quart of oil there. Got it started again and drove to the nearest Walmart and put in another quart there – just to make it back home.

This was when we took it to the dealership the first time on October 5, 2016.

They said that they could not see a leak and wanted to do a consumption test. They filled up the oil, added a dye and told us to come back in 1,000 miles.

We didn’t make that 1,000 miles before it was more than a quart low again. So, we took it back on October 18, 2016. This time, they said that there was a leak at the back on the oil pan. We asked where did all the oil go – at least 4 quarts that we put in ourselves? They stated that it all went on a cross member under the car (which was strange as there has been no signs of an oil leak – not under the car or on our garage floor).

This time they changed the oil pan (so they claim) and put some type of form-a-gasket sealant on the oil pan, filled it back up and told us to drive another 500 miles to see what happens.

Know that at this time, we were afraid to drive the vehicle (and we had reason). However, we tried to put the miles on it to see what would happen. We did not even make it the 500 miles before it was ¾ of a quart low and not wanting to drive it any more, we took it back in on November 10, 2016. They said that they will look into it – pull some things apart and take pictures of it.

The verdict was that they are going to put a new motor in it. So, we have a vehicle that is just over 4 months old with less that 4,000 miles and it will have a new engine and we are still afraid to drive it. I guess when they say ‘buyer beware’ they really mean it!

Moreover, we did find out that the technician that worked on the vehicle the last time with the oil pan knew that it was not fixed as the amount of oil that ended up on the cross member was no where near the amount of oil that was put into the vehicle over the last few months. Thus, they knowingly sent us back out with an unsafe vehicle. When we asked about this, we were told that the dealership had steps they had to follow in order to have Chrysler reimburse them. I guess they cared nothing about our safety.

I tried to contact Chrysler two weeks ago. They said that they would have someone call me in 48 hours. We are still waiting.
